- Here is part 2 • Installing a new 200 a...
No matter what, if you're going underground code states that it must be 200 amps 4/0 wire in a 2-inch conduit.
In this case, I'm installing a new 200 amp panel anyways. Min depth is 20". But I always go like 3-4 feet.
Installing a new or replacing an existing service is really not as hard as you might think.
In this video, we go underground. You’ll need to use a 4/0 wire/200 amp whenever you go underground. Regardless of what size panel, that’s code.
But I do install a 200 amp panel because of other 220 load factors such as an eclectic dryer and electric stove with oven. Well, that’s not entirely true. It just makes it better sense too.
First, we dig the trench for the wire. The code states 24″ but since I’m using a machine I always go 4 feet. Just makes it better since.
Use a 2″ plastic conduit and make sure you use a slip joint under the meter as shown in the video.

Nice job. I didn't know about conduit slip joints -- thanks for explaining.
Same here. I've never seen a slip joint before.
Always my pleasure. Thank you.
You ARE a real worker! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks buddy
I was wondering what happened to you! It has been a while since I’ve seen a video! I miss being able to do my own electrical. I’m building a site now that has a 1200A 3PY feed but sadly in commercial I can’t do any of it. Just have to pay someone $200,000 for a job you know would cost less than $20,000 in materials.
so how does someone know there is underground wiring? do you have to file something or post a sign?
By law, you would need to call 811. They would come out and mark if there were any. But for your house, if you don't have overhead, you have underground
Well if it isn’t the man himself
LOL Yup it's me.
@@Askmediy well thanks i watched so many of your videos when I got into my first home
thanks for sharing your extensive knowledge and more importanly experience
Always. The next videos will really show more.
Nice video! What size and type of wire do I need if I am going 250 ft with it? Thanks
2/0 should do it
So basically, it doesn't matter where you live, if you'd like to avoid having hanging wires, you can just do this and call it a day?
You really should have installed a meter base main breaker combo to provide a building disconnect and overcirrent protection gor your sevice entrance cable. Doesn't your ahj require a meterbsde main, or didnt you have to take out a permit for this upgrade? I guess it sll depends on what the power is company requires in addition to the ahj.
How come I am being told that 3 runs of wire are needed for 200 amp but I only see you ran 1. I'm told 4, 4 and 2
I ran three to the pole and three from the pan to the panel. Two hots and one neutral.
Thank you. Very helpful to see.
Never thought about the dirt settling and pulling the meter right off the house!! Great tip.
Oh yes. I've see so many meters get pulled right off
Good clean work
Thanks buddy
