One of the people we buy from is a guy who cleans out, repairs, and flips houses. When I suggested he could get good money selling this stuff on eBay he straight up said he doesn't want to mess with it, especially because of the shipping aspect. So he's happy to sell to us. I agree that it depends on WHY they're selling as to whether or not you tell them what you do and whether or when you put it on FB. If FB sellers want eBay prices or get upset when you re-sell their stuff of eBay they don't understand the time, effort, and chance eBay sellers go through - time/gas etc. sourcing, cleaning, repairing, taking pictures, writing up a listing, figuring up prices, waiting for the right buyer and hopefully one who's not a scammer, shipping the item and hoping it doesn't get held up at a slow USPS hub, lost, or stolen by any of a number of entities. All that figures in the cost of the item.
I had friend who had given me a bunch of high end cookbooks that she got for free. I mentioned that I had sold a signed copy on ebay and she got a little upset. I just told her the work involved doing research, photos, packaging, shipping, etc. If I had made hundreds of dollars I would have kicked down, but I probably profited $35 max, not including my time.
The more I talk about selling on eBay the more they want to sell me. These people don’t have the time energy and space to sell on eBay and they want cash. It has opened so many doors for me.
I love y’alls videos. “No it’s not a fish!” Is hilarious. I’m having a rough week personally and I probably rewatched that half a dozen times cracking up laughing. I look forward to seeing you both each day.
My rule of thumb with FB Marketplace... I do not sell from the same account that I buy from. 1 account to buy, 1 account to sell. That way no one sees you mark something up and resell it.
Yep, born and raised in the Northwest and never referred to a stuffed animal as a plush until just recently. Plush used to be just an adjective for describing couches or car seats.
I'm with you. I had never heard of plush until I started reselling. I did stick around to the end. It's good to know I'm not the only one who makes suspect buys sometimes.
I own an antique mall, and my personal rule is if I buy something in the store from a vendor and I sell it in the store for a profit I am good with it, and so are they. As long as I don't lie or cheat them on the price. I always pay there asking price, I even use the store 10% discount for dealers and never had an issue
It's ok to sell what you source on the same platform. I think it's important to have a separate buying and selling account. It can be insulting to the seller if they can easily see your selling activities during negotiations and later check your account to see their former items. A small level of separation is more professional. Buy from one account and wait a week or two to sell on another. The person you bought from will probably never make the connection.
Selling Locally: if you both buy and sell locally, which was the game 20 years back before all the current on line marketplaces existed, you would run into the second part of the local sales issue. The buyer who wants to know where you got the item from, how long you have had it and what you paid. Once they find out your a reseller, they want a better price on the item. We’ve always stuck to simple generic answers that generally appease the buyer, but provide few specifics, such as: “we like to buy large auction lots, delinquent storage units and sometimes entire estates”. We don’t say where any 1 item came from in that process and we don’t say: we bought this item 2 weeks ago locally for $5 and now want you to pay $50. Often when they learn we buy volume, their attention immediately shifts from their first question to asking questions about that process works. Sometimes those answers lead to bigger buys or referrals. Pressed for specifics, we politely redirect the conversation. It may cost us a sale, but there is a limit to sharing, especially with strangers. Be honest in what you answer, but not specific. As the relationship deepens, sharing more can be beneficial. 🙂
I'm 59 & I was raised in the Northeast. I only ever had "stuffed animals." If we used the word "plush" at all, it was in reference to luxurious (read "expensive") carpets, bedding, bath towels, pillows, couches/sofas etc. I do have some opinions about what the oversimplification of terms (e.g., "plush") says about the state & mindset (or lack thereof) of present-day society. But I'm not the Grinch so I'll put a lid on it. Merry Christmas to all & to all a good night!! 🎄❤️😴💤💤💤
I don't think you are being paranoid. If you have some sort of gut feeling then your experience is telling you it is something to address or pay closer attention to. It's a balance for sure. Honesty will always win the day!
Yes, this. I have the same quandary sometimes. I work for a moving company and people are always giving me things. Some I've held onto for years and will probably keep forever, or give to someone that I know will love it. I just try to take each situation individually. I won't sell anything locally if I think it will cause a problem or hurt someone's feelings. Just read the room.
Once you've bought it,you own it. You can do whatever you wish with it. You mark up the price but you put in the work to promote and sell it and you outlay the $ and take the risk when buying. Go for it!
You guys are rewarded for doing your research on items! Yes you guys buy and resell some things but that is also a risk in itself. The person who sold these items to you is no longer responsible for them and is free of a headache. You guys provide a reliable source for those who want to get rid of clutter without the hassle of dealing with people that they do not know.
There’s nothing stopping someone from selling on eBay. If they sell an item on marketplace and achieve their objective of getting rid of it for $$, then it shouldn’t matter what becomes of that item or items.
Great video and Excellent title, Like how you keep us updated with information you find will be helpful for new seller's. Merry Christmas 🎄to Ya'll from your neighbor next Door in Texas
Re: "Plush"... Back in the 90's I was operating pinball and video games. I acquired a couple "grab" or "claw" machines. I soon found out that in the amusement industry the call "stuffed animals" that you put in the machines and/or used as prizes in amusement parks, "plush". Back then it was pretty much a word used in the industry. Much like the word "picker" in the antiques game, I've been using the word "picker" since the early 70's when I was working for a gu that ran auctions and delt in antiques. Then came American Pickers" and now everyone calls themselves Picker this or Picker that or "something" Picker.
I think this way. If they wanted to put it on eBay or FBMP they could have. They didn’t. Most people don’t know how to do it and/or don’t want to be bothered. A house you sell for example could easily be knocked down for the land. After it’s sold to them they can do whatever they want. And it’ll be in your face when you drive by. It isn’t their problem because they decided to knock it down and you’re upset.
How would you feel if someone did the same to you? Sell something on FB marketplace and then see it again for 5-10x more than what you sold it for? If you're OK with it, then list it. That's my opinion.
95% of people that sell you something, do not care what you resell it for, they want it gone without the hassles of getting more. The small percentage that do care, are the same ones that act like they deserve to get whatever you get, without them putting in the work. You can take 10 different resellers and they would all sell something for a different price, in different places, with different preparation. No reseller should ever get upset with another reseller pricing something differently. There is always someone who can get more and someone who will sell for less.
Plush were definitely called 'Stuffed Animals' for me in NY as a kid. The only things referred to as 'plush' back in the 70's/80's were a fuzzy couch or maybe certain styles of carpeting.
I am 100% with you guys. I'm from Indiana and born in 85 and we always grew up calling them Stuffed Animals. Even when they weren't animals, lol! I agree that the plushies thing is a little confusing. I also hear them being called Stuffies.
I bought 3 pairs of boots on FB. The lady asked me what I was doing with them since they were all different sizes. 3 sons 3 sizes. I told her I resell on eBay and she said ohhh ok but I don't want to see them on FB. I said oh ok. Sold on eBay fast enough that I didn't have to even worry about it. Now I hesitate to resell what I buy on Marketplace on Marketplace.
It's not so much how people will react or what they think. The main problem is, if they notice that they can get much higher prices on FB than what they're asking now, they're gonna increase their prices and you'll be out of a resource.
As someone who liquidates estates, I can tell you I am fully aware that many customers are resellers. I try and deal with the top 25% or so and cut the rest loose reasonable. If I tried selling everything for retail, I'd never have time for the NEXT estate full of treasures.
I agree Lonnie. We called them stuff animals. Not until I became a reseller did I learn that word. My thought was Plush is shorter in ebay title than Stuffed Animal. Need to stuff those keys words! 😉
No, honey once you buy it's yours to do with as you wish. But, is nice that u tell them ahead. That probably does make you feel better. Honesty is the best policy
I moved all over the country as a child and it was stuffed animal or stuffie everywhere, I never heard them referred to as plush. I do know that I had to stop using stuffed animal over a decade ago when listing garage sales on FB because they would flag as selling animals and I think that is when I started seeing plush in listings.
Can't believe how well those Italiana cookbooks sell and the prices they go for! Would love to hear the numbers on that buy again. Must be a mountain of profit there.
They sell for 5. You sell for 45. We take all the risk and do all the work. Besides all the obvious costs involved with reselling. There is a cost in our willingness to live this lifestyle of reselling. Space in our homes. Dealing with the evolving clutter/inventory. Time spent sourcing. It's a huge job. Full time for two people most likely. So much more involved that most people can even imagine.
I’m 41 and it was always “stuffed animals” growing up here in Nova Scotia. “Plush”, other than being a song I loved from Stone Temple Pilots, wasn’t a term I’d have heard or used.
As far as the "should I list this on Facebook marketplace question", it may be a case by case thing. That said, if You buy something from someone who is easily slighted and already feels ripped off by other people, and may resent You forever for selling their 5$ item for 50$ within their sight... Candice, You said it already feels wrong to You (in that particular case) : Should You use logic to supersede Your feelings and sell it within her sight? Or should You listen to Your gut? Always a case by case decision, no flat answer on this one.
I had an item that didn't work and sold it as parts only because others seem to be selling. A guy messaged me and wanted it for his son school project of fixing an electronic device. I accepted his offer and was 100% sure I didn't have to worry about a return. Marked it as parts only, no returns, etc. Then about 2 weeks later he opens up a return case, as item not working. The shipping on it was would have to be paid by me and it was like almost $30. I could have just accepted it back and say item was return in a different condition, but hard to prove if they put it all back together. I ended up refunding his money and shipping told them to throw item away.
I tell everyone I buy from that I am reselling the item. It gives them the chance to sell it for more money if they want. No problems with anyone's feelings getting hurt later down the road.
Question about a major shipping debacle! Hello Lonnie and Candace (I hope I spelled that right) I am stuck here. I have only been selling on eBay for a year and have sold mostly video games and smaller stuff. Recently I’ve been feeling more comfortable with bigger items and took on some bigger pieces. Until now anytime I’ve had to create multiple shipping labels for one order, it’s been three or less. I have an order with eighteen items, pretty big items but already packaged in original shipping. They’re identical and have the same weight and dimensions. So I figured I would print eighteen labels and done! I had no idea the limit was five so I started creating multiple labels, after five I got the dreaded something went wrong message. So once I realized there’s a cap on the labels per order I started to void the labels. After they’re voided I built five boxes big enough for all eighteen items. Back to the printer, now I can’t create new labels, on a one day shipping time! Yea me, lol, really fml actually! It says labels are voided and that it’ll take a couple days to a couple weeks for the refund. I’m not worried about the money pre say even though it’s substantial, I’m more concerned about getting five new labels and getting product to the customer. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Funny, you should say this. We went to a yard sale and i bought a poker table new unused. For now, we go to the flea market and resale there until this coming year. We sold it $60, more than we purchased it, and a person before the ones who bought it should me a Facebook link where they were selling it on there before I bought it. They asked me if I was selling it on Facebook. I told them no, not us . They said that they should have bought it on Facebook place because it was cheaper than what I was selling it for, but the next person bought it with no problems. So I know this feeling.
Develop your source as a connections. Tell them to call you when they have more to sell. Win-win because they have a quick easy sale if you purchase and they have a connection for that quick easy sale.
Thanks for the great video. I do have a question about shipping. I'm hoping you will give me your thoughts on. I had a charge back on shipping with UPS Surepost. I purchased the label through Ebay. The cost of the label was 9.36 for a 3lb. Box 15x12x8. (Purse), and they charged 7.15 more!!! Making cost 16.51. I rechecked I wasn't wrong on my weights or box size. I rechecked distance (Delaware to Texas), which still cost now 9.36 on ebay. Have you ever had this happen. Thanks for your time, Juanita
It depends on who's asking and why they're selling. Crazy Lamp Lady won't buy in one antique mall and resell offline for similar reasons. Also because another dealer might recognize the piece and figure out that they waaaay underpriced something. No use in enlightening the competition!
From Maine and plush has always been stuffed animals or stuffies. Plush I think is just a reseller term, never used it in that way until I started watching RUclips reseller videos.
Well, many store items are made from pennies and they sell up, that is business, capitalism, you have to make your money. I don't talk to people about pricing, just like when I worked retail at a clothing store or sold from my yard. I sell for more online 'cuz I do the research, the footwork, clean it, store it, etc so yes, I price it up! Don't feel bad, they could do it too but don't want to. Thanks for sharing with us!
I buy on Facebook to flip on Ebay and Etsy primarily. But I am not opposed to raising the price and reselling on Facebook at some point, I just wait a while to see what flips elsewhere first. I haven't had anyone message about those items, but I DO on occasion have someone message on an item I got off the road. They havent been mean-spirited but they have a few things to say. I just say I love to recycle, and that was an item I used to feed my family. Then it is up to them whether they become foolish responding poorly to anything further.
I've literally grabbed something out of someone's hand as they were throwing it into the trash saying "what are you doing?. I've dumpster dived amazing usable stuff. Many people just want a really tidy home and don't want to be bothered.
In a local FB group there is a guy has an advert asking for old games consoles as he is a collector. The same guy has an advert selling old games consoles in the same FB group. I just don't know how you would feel if you sold him your PS and then next week see him selling it for double.
It's the same question people ask about Guy. Guy knows you all sell his finds for a profit, but he would probably never have the patience to run the business you all run.
What are you shipping media mail? I ran into issues with usps due to the comics having ads in them, I sent graphic novels with no ads in them and they still intercepted the package and held it hostage.
at my church they talk about "bring your favorite lovie" and I was what? they wanted the kids to bring their favorite plush / stuffed animal. It through me for a loop.
So we live in a community that has a “Curb Alert” page where people post things for free or for sale so I totally get the worry about selling it after. I tell my neighbors our plan to resell if they ask. Would it be beneficial to have a separate business Facebook account that you use strictly to sell from?
I think if i saw it I would shrug! My package doggy coat is stuck would love to get in winter. But dont panic. Trust you! Love hugs Lonnie and Candance!❤😊
Few Years Back, Bought something for a $1.00 at a Garage Sale, Sold it on Facebook ship it somewhere near the Great Lakes Up North for 100.00 , Shipping was 100.00
As long as what you're buying is legal... as long as the seller is getting their asking price, it's none of their concern what you do with the item. Money is money. $50 from a reseller pays the bills exactly the same as $50 from a train enthusiast. Imagine if thrift stores scoffed at resellers?
Adding to this... 99% of people don't want to be bothered listing, shipping, replying to buyer messages, and everything else that goes with selling on ebay.
Some charity shops (thrift stores) in the UK get very unhappy with resellers. One reseller I follow on RUclips was banned from filming in his nearest shop. Many charity shops now price at eBay rates in their stores. The items lie around for months unsold.
I know there's absolutely nothing wrong with buying something at a garage sale and then putting it on Marketplace for profit. But for me, it is too cringey to think that the seller will see it and then have bad feelings towards me. I even feel bad buying things at Goodwill and putting them on Marketplace because I know the person that donated it is local and they could probably see the item as well. But that's just me.
Great to know !! I listed not working for parts. Put in description return for not as described but have a buyer who requested return and eBay auto approved return 😡 holding my funds here during the holidays and gave buyer till 1/1 to return the item 🤮🤯😡
It hasn't happened to me personally, but in our area, I have seen people put others on blast because: "so and so bought this from me for "x", and are turning around trying to sell it for "y". If I knew they were going to sell it, I would have sold it to someone else, I wanted to help someone out."
I feel if i pay the price somebody wants for something, it is then really not there concern anymore what I do with it. We run into that in our small town all the time.
I don’t poo where I eat. I buy 99% on Whatnot and sell on eBay. eBay just brings more money than other platforms. I get the awkwardness too of being “caught”, though. But at the end of the day, if the seller gets their asking price, they shouldn’t care what the buyer does with the item.
A few months ago I asked you guys a question if anyone ever says anything to you about what you charging for an item because they know what you got it for because they watch your videos. The reason I asked you that was because it happened to me. This person gave me a really hard time and I finally blocked them. So I was just wondering if that ever happened to you guys. But you said no. Kind of on the same subject.
I love how you work so well as a team. The affection you have for each other is really nice. ❤

WOOOOO HOOOO!!!!!! Yup. usually I dont shit in my back yard but every once in a while, I will sell local. Fantastic video.
My toys when I was a kid were stuffed animals, and I still call them that. I’ve noticed several RUclips sellers calling them plush.
I grew up in Utah, stuffed animals. I had some great ones and then they were lost in the move. Miss those guys.
I moved all over the country as a child and it was stuffed animal or stuffie everywhere, I never heard them referred to as plush. The gold item is a tea infuser.

I'm from the California and they were always called "stuffed animals". 😢I think resellers started calling them "plush" to make them sound fancy🤣🤣
If both parties agree to the price, I don't see a problem.... they had the same opportunity
It was stuffed animals in Nebraska growing up in the 70’s and 80’s.
I grew up on Long Island (NY), and I had STUFFED ANIMALS. I didn't have a plush toy, and like you, I was confused first time I heard that.
Plush refers to any stuffed animals. There are other local names like stuffies
Up north we also called them stuffed animals. I am not sure why they call them plush or plushies now.
I'm originally from the northeast. The terminology was always "stuffed animals" there too.
in the North it is stuffed animal. Maybe they changed to plush, because it is shorter than stuffed animal?
In a local FB group there is a guy has an advert asking for old games consoles as he is a collector. The same guy has an advert selling old games consoles in the same FB group. I just don't know how you would feel if you sold him your PS and then next week see him selling it for double.
It's the same question people ask about Guy. Guy knows you all sell his finds for a profit, but he would probably never have the patience to run the business you all run.
Never said or heard "plush" before ebay either ... Colorado ... we called them "stuffed animals"
The bottom line is you bought, you own it. You can do what you choose. It’s all about supply and demand.
I called them stuffed animals, but the grands call them "stuffies".
I grew up in 50s and 60s in Ohio and I never heard the word plush either back then. I had stuffed animals.
I never called them plush growing up. I called them stuffed animals too.
This Northern girl has always called them stuffed animals. I learned about the word "Plush" from youtubers.
Any market item is worth whatever the buying market will bear.
Few Years Back, Bought something for a $1.00 at a Garage Sale, Sold it on Facebook ship it somewhere near the Great Lakes Up North for 100.00 , Shipping was 100.00
If it doesn't feel right, just don't do it.
I think of selling like giving a gift, once it's out of my hands it's no longer mine and whatever happens to such items is really none of my business.
Can you please list or comment the brand name of tape you use? I see you link the dispensers... Thank You!
I only use the word plush when listing as it takes fewer characters but in reality, they are all stuffed animals to me.
But that's just me.
we all make mistakes good on you own them.
Great to know !! I listed not working for parts. Put in description return for not as described but have a buyer who requested return and eBay auto approved return 😡 holding my funds here during the holidays and gave buyer till 1/1 to return the item 🤮🤯😡
I face the exact same dilemma.
There are lots of words I never said til I became a reseller.
It hasn't happened to me personally, but in our area, I have seen people put others on blast because: "so and so bought this from me for "x", and are turning around trying to sell it for "y". If I knew they were going to sell it, I would have sold it to someone else, I wanted to help someone out."
Hi all, thinking of selling on Ebay for the first time any tips please😊
What is up with those Italian cookbooks? Why are they so popular?
Awesome show
I buy from marketplace and sell on ebay. People just want cash or the item gone.
Are you using a personal account on FBMP or your business? To me that’s different and might be better.
There are some things that I’ve grabbed curbside that I want to list on FB but I’m nervous to do so. I get it
If I sell something and I’m happy with the price I get I don’t care what the purchaser does with it.
If they had the time ,energy ,knowledge to sell in another format,, they should
looks like Etsy sales are becoming an everyday thing.
I don’t call it reselling, I say I’m in retail. To me, reselling has some negative implications.
