Scott said in an interview after this was released that the group wanted to do this for years, but waited until they could give it the arrangement it deserved. IIRC, Brian May posted this video to his followers with the caption "enjoy".

They do call this song a “rock opera” so your assessment about the totally different styles, sounds, harmonies, etc makes perfect sense.

Brother you gotta do Kevin's (KO's) cover of Down. He produces everything live and it is mind blowing. He invented cello boxing where he beatboxes and plays the cello at the same time and how you mentally separate that is beyond me. Much love and keep on keepin on J.

Great reaction Jacob - there are a few deliberate details in the video, the couch was where they started their fanbase on RUclips after the SingOff when the record label dropped them for not being commercial enough for radio ( eat those words after three Grammy's Sony ) so the couch moving represents their careers taking off but always coming back to their roots. The starscape is to acknowledge Dr Brian May's PhD in astrophysics.... the trio falling onto the couch at the end is a nod to the album art for Queen's 'Sheer Heart Attack'.... they always do such a fantastic job of paying homage to the original track/artist without ever mimicking it.

They have a behind the scenes video for this which you might like. It addresses the couch and set, and the tribulations of shooting this outside at night.
Also...I’ve seen the videos of you playing along w/PTX on your guitar. Kevin has been putting up ‘celloboxing’ (where he plays cello and beatboxes at the same time) videos on TikTok (crossposted to other social media) and invites people to duet with him.

Two things, Jacob. First, the couch is controlled through remote-control. Second, I first encountered the panning back in 1974, when I first listened to this song by Queen with my headphones.

Yup they payed homage to the original with the panning. I think that’s why their position in the video doesn’t match the panning in some cases. I imagine the Director of the video didn’t realize about the panning in the audio so their vision had to do with the visuals of where people are standing, people’s heights etc.

PTX can rock the socks of of every song they sing. Always surprises, gorgeous voices and passion. Filmed in a parking lot, and they have a video of "how it's made." In 'live" concerts, Mitch sounds the same, because the megaphone is a prop.

That conceptual key change tone change mood change thing is literally called a Rhapsody. Happens in orchestral style music (and opera - which inspired Freddie to write BORAP, hence the album title “Night at The Opera”) all the time. So that’s where the name Bohemian Rhapsody comes from. Because that’s just straight up what it is.

The couch is an homage to their very early RUclips videos (which they recorded sitting on a couch). Also, I believe Queen wrote this song to be a rock opera performance (a la Tommy), so the song within a song is quite intentional.

I believe the moving couch is symbolic of their career. I've seen other people explain this better than I can but,
In the early days, they did a lot of videos of them just sitting on a couch and singing. Then they went on this amazing journey. But in the end they're still five people sitting on a couch and singing.

  • @larrywt656
    @larrywt656 3 года назад

There is a BTS video on the making of this video. It's very entertaining. That couch was an interesting contraption. And as I said in another comment, they don't do the panning in their audio with videos in mind. All of their tracks are completely recorded before any video ideas are even conceived. As they're shooting the videos (this particular one was done on one cold night, outside, from right after sunset until right before sunrise), they have the track playing on the set so they can act out their "singing" correctly. Sometimes they lip synch and sometimes they are actually singing along during the shoots, or a mix of both. The action is not blocked out to correlate with the audio panning.

Thank you for the great, interesting, reaction. You talked about some hip-hop emulating this format, having several very different sections stylistically, yet one cohesive whole. Guess what? That is just about the definition of the classical music term, "rhapsody". 😺

In theatre - stage right and stage left is the opposite of the audience. This is why it seems on the “wrong” side. Brian May tweeted this out. They truly tired to really keep Queen’s arrangement- down to the panning. Queen were known for it. Great reaction.

I really enjoy your reactions....very informative.
FYI...many reactors have said the same thing about the sound in one ear is opposite of their position on the video. Actually, it is the SAME side if you were facing the same way as they are, but because you are looking at them, it gives off a "mirror" effect. Also, the couch moving is typical when movies do the same thing...they can either put wheels on the legs (not likely) or they use a remote-controlled motorized devise under the couch...not rocket science.

Some say that their voices were dubbed in a studio. I haven't seen one reactor mention their cold breath coming out of their mouths, that shows that they were outside in the cold, doing this video. If anyone watches their behind the scenes, again, they'd see that it was done outside. ruclips.net/video/Q8ugJnIG_Lk/видео.html Also, not one reactor mentions the headlights of cars behind them during the video. If they watched carefully, they'd have noticed it too. You re the only one who has mentioned it so far. Kudos to you.
