  • Today is the 5th day of the 5th month in the Chinese lunar calendar, and we are celebrating Dragon Boat Festival with some rice dumplings at home. We still wrap our own rice dumplings every year even though it's a very long and tedious process. My mum usually breaks down the preparation over a few days to make it less tiring. Yesterday we did the final wrapping and cooking of the rice dumplings.
In this video, I'll share some dumpling wrapping tips that I picked up from my mum ❤ traditional foods form part of our culture, and the preparation process often helps to bring the family together, so I hope that such traditions can be passed down to our next generations 😊

Should trim off the excess leaves to make it looks neat

Hello. Yes, we do the trimming after the dumplings are cooked and cool enough to handle, because my mum says the dumplings will expand after cooking, if we cut the leaves too short before cooking, it might slip open after cooking. Plus the ends of the leaves are purposely left there to prevent the smooth ends of the leaves from slipping under the string and opening up while cooking
