Udo Super Gemini Ambient Pad Improvisation

- My Udo Super Gemini arrived yesterday 15/12. I already made some custom patches with it and did a Twitch stream/first play. Such a great sounding synth, and extremely fun to program. Here I'm just showing of a simple ambient pad that I made today, this uses ONLY one layer in binaural mode. Enjoy!
Video shot on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k with a Sigma 18-35 lens. Editing and colour grading done in Da Vinci Resolve.

That instrument is one of the most desirable synths out there and destined to be a classic, so versatile, especially in the hands of talent…stunning ethereal performance!
Thank you!
Well make it two as Polybrute is as well yes I know it's just six voice .
What an amazing sound. Looking forward to hearing this in upcoming songs and improvisations.
That thing sounds exactly how it looks: DEEP
I'm still waiting until I get better at making music to justify a big hardware Poly Synth, but this and the 3rd Wave are the two I would most likely lean towards. Having had the pleasure to talk with the guys from UDO at Superbooth really cemented the Super Gemini as one of those dream purchases. The Keyboard feels amazing, the hands on control without a screen (which many hate) is a choice I absolutely adore and the sounds it produces are nothing short of spectacular. I giggled out loud when someone played a pad and added the Bass notes. It just sounds so god dammn smooth
I know what you mean. I wanted one since day one!
It does sound very smooth, that's what I was thinking too.
This sounds lovely, my mind is torn between this and the Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave another gorgeous sounding synth.
The 3rd Wave is amazing also, love that synth. Two very unique and distinctive sounding synths, it would be a hard choice between those.
@@stateazureif you could choose only one out of the two, what would it be? I actually wanted this over 3rd Wave.
Well for me it would probably be the 3rd Wave, just because I've always been a fan of the PPG sound/synths, love that gritty wavetable sound, but the 3rd Wave can also do VA/analog extremely well. But these two synths are so very different, it's not very comparable and you should listen to as much of both as you can and decide based on what you hear. Feature wise they might be somewhat comparable in strength, but definitely not sonically imo. It would be like trying to compare a PPG vs Jupiter@@2ammusik

@@stateazure thank you. I really value your insight because I actually see you using this stuff and I like the music you make.
This sounds incredible! Such great playing too. Would love to get my hands on one of these.
Thank you, Miles! Wish I had time lately to do a follow up, it's such a fun synth to program and play with live, since everything is just right there on the panel. Very refreshing after you spend ages menu diving, or working in the DAW etc..
Beautiful stuff, what a stunning masterpiece of a synth this is. Top of my wishlist.
Hearing this slowly move from the dark to the light and back again gave me all the chills ❤❤❤❤fantastic as usual.
There's not too many synths around at the moment that give me that 'im gunna get me one of those' moments, but this one....YUP!!.
I know I must sound like a squealing fanboy by now (which, btw, I totally am) but this is amazing. I've had it on loop for hours. While I'm sure the Super Gemini is doing it's best, it's you that tends to make pretty much any instrument sing (well, maybe besides that cello 😝). Awesome, man. Thank you.
Thanks man :) Haha, yeah that cello had me beat.
Sounds awesome, nice demo. Atmospheric and mesmerizing.
Lovely, Pat! So warm and lush. Gorgeous chord progressions too man. VERY nice. 👍
Amazing dramatic and cinematic sounding. Love seeing the chords for a play along session with SA. Very impressive patch after just one day. Nice one.
THanks!
Man, I wish I lived next door to you! 😎
Yes, that would be some privilege and some .
Haven't heard of this synth. Really nice pads and sounds. Thank you for introducing him...
Beautiful calming sounds perfect for drifting into your own world 🌍 you have some amazing kit love the look 👀 and sounds of the new keyboard 🎹👍😊
Dreamy! I can't wait to see what more you do with this one.
Pads are my absolute favorite, and this improv is superb!
I've been waiting for people to get their hands on the Gemini and start making patches! I'm really excited to see what people can do with it!
Such a fantastic soundscape that builds...very soothing, and shades of Blade Runner towards the end.
Appreciated, thank you!
Auch in der Mitte. 😊
Amazing space and depth ... I'm drifting away
I really like the live chord display! Great music!
Envoûtant au meilleur sens du terme:un pur régal!!!!💝
I'm very happy for you that you have the SG! I love synths with "personality" and the UDOs have it. I have the S6 here and I love this sound. In some years we will probably talk about them like about Matrix 6 and Matrix 12.
I wish you a lot of pleasure and I'm looking forward to hear your next creations.
I've been thinking of them like the Prophet 5 and Prophet 10, but I really like your Matrix 6 and Matrix 12 comparison too :)
Personality is a good word for it! To me compared to some of the other more "straight up" big (analogue) polys, UDO's synths are like offset-body guitars. Off doing their own thing, with their own signature sound.
❤❤❤ Very deep and lovely composition... love to listen something with YOUR signature on the Behringer Ub-Xa..
Great artist and great synth! What else? 💥🔥🔥🔥
SSSSTRAIGHT into my lifesaving, 350+track, ambient playlist.
Thankyou for this soul soothing bliss.
💖🙏💖
I listened to your video and next day ordered the Super Gemini. I have had it for just over a week now and gotta say it is absolutely beautiful sounding. Different and unique but can sound more traditional too. I have the OB-X8 as well and the Super Gemini can hang right up there with it !
That sir was cool, cheers.
Its a hell of a good-looking synth with amazing sound
Very nice! Excellent tonal movement throughout! Goes well with Doctor Who on silent as visuals!
Movie: Sorcerer. Song: Betrayal. If anyone can put a modern treatment to this it's you guys. Have never asked anyone else until I saw your stuff. Amazing work.
Beautiful ❤
Such a captivating sound. Superb patches. I'm glad you find this new synth fun, and like others of your followers, I hope to see/hear the Udo in an upcoming SA masterpiece.
As a happy Super 6 user of a few years, I've been thinking for a while that UDO's architecture would suit your style of music. I love the way they set up their VCFs. It's basically all one big sweet spot.
Good to see you've finally got your hands on the Big Bastard ;) looking forward to seeing what kinda stuff you pull off with both the layers at once! (Since I'm pretty sure this patch, being only one layer, would work just as well on the wee-er one.)
Those filters are a thing of beauty! I only wish the HPF also had a resonance control!
I watched your long video demoing the 3rd WAVE. Very lovely Synth with insane capabilities/specs. YOU certainly bring out the Beautiful in whatever instrument you touch!
And then...there's GEMINI. THIS improvisation brought tears to my eyes.
Meanwhile, a dozen friends ( who know of my search for a POLY ) chimed already: 'NO CONTEST...Gemini does not EVEN begin to compete with 3rd Wave!' Meanwhile, I can't get this Gemini performance out of my head.
If you have a minute, I am merely hoping for a "BOX A" or "BOX B" answer.,
I'm waiting on a Train; a Train that will take me far away....a one way ticket. proposition. I can carry on my suitcase and am allotted what would be the space for one keyboard shaped Box.
Box A is the GEMINI.
Box B is the 3rd WAVE Desktop + ROLI RISE 2.
I wonder which box you'd have loaded onto the train.? Thank you.
Thank you for the nice comment! Wow that's a tough choice though, these synths are sooo different from each other, but both are fantastic. I think it might be the 3rd Wave for me, but it's very close!
Chord progression is very moving.
Ya, the sound itself is uninspiring, but the chord progression keeps it interesting.
I thought this was a pun 😂
@@Jason75913i love the sound
35 degrees here in AR / USA. Sitting in a hot tub enjoying this. Peace and love.
I love that sound. You and that synth make beautiful music together. ❤
PS putting on loop.
Fantastic sound
Love it!
State Azure you out of your mind this is awesome top 👍
What a beautiful instrument! ❤
This is incredible and directly serene.
이것은 믿을 수 없을 정도로 고요하고 직접적으로 고요합니다.
Beautiful looking synth. No money nor space for it. :D
Beautiful, atmospheric music with depth... I love it...🙂
This must be what music in Heaven sounds like.
Ressourçant belle maîtrise l artiste🙏👏👏👏👏👍💖
More delightful music ! THANK YOU !
that sounds absolutely fantastic, Pat, and well played too 🙂👍
Thanks, Andy!
Mine is arriving tomorrow Monday 18th, don’t think I’ve been this excited in a long time!
Hope you enjoy it!
Some lovely sounds! Thank you for sharing 👏
Thank you!
lovely sounds in the hands of a sensitive maestro keyboardist, a series of supergemini in bandcamp perhaps?...makes me cry so beatifull sounds.... love the music notes display in the corner... bravo maestro..
So, so good. What a synth!
I love this synth....maybe one day.
Beautiful. Enough said.
Fantastic music !
wow, zoned me out.
Love it!
Beautiful pad sound 👌
I am liking this yes I am liking this a lot. Ps also liking the lighthouse channel
Thanks, Robert!
love it
Oh gosh that thing can really sing.
Fantastic sounding synth, and great improvisation… Looks like an awesome synth with all the available controls. Pity about the Roland style modulation lever instead of the wheels but I guess all those faders and knobs more than compensate.
Yeah it's awesome! The modulation stick, not so much! Odd design choice that one I think, but yes, given you have so much control via the panel it's not such a big deal. I've already hooked up an expression pedal so the mod wheel won't be missed. The poly AT on this keyboard feels really nice, one of the best I've used.
Wow, as usual your an amazing artist.
What an instrument.
So lovely. I have a Super 6, but would love to get a Gemini.
Thank you for the vidja.
Peaceful Skies.
Nice!! This is the only poly synth that I think I must have at this point.
Definitely sounds awesome, but alas it's pretty spendy. Love what you're doin' with it here!
New fav 🤩 this remind me of the movie DRIVE
What a nuther one !
😊 very nice though
That’s just perfect. The contrast between the closed and opened lpf is almost like 2 completely different instruments. Is the video notation “automatic” or have you annotated the chord voicings yourself?
Thanks! Yeah that filter is full of character! The chords show up automatically, it's the ChordieApp
My god my dream synth 🥹
Sounds amazing!
Awesome
As I contemplate going to the hospital for my BP, this is a welcome calm.❤
Verry Nice
wow Nice Love Ambient 🙃😉😉
OST to this moment
Heaven
Sounds incredible! One layer huh? Nice
Great pads. 👍
yep
So what are your thoughts on the Super 6/8/Gemini now, relative to the other gear? I'm looking to offload a bunch of synths to get a Super 6, the smaller size seems beneficial, but... I also kind of wonder, do I really need this (with a Prophet 10, Jupiter 6, System 8, Poly Evolver, Prophet 12, Virus TI, etc). I know you've stopped by my channel a few times and commented on the videos (thanks by the way!) and just wondering whether you think it's worth it, since I think we share a lot of similar gear.
Lovely sound/video by the way. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed this one. To be honest, since this video I've only made a handful of patches and still not had nearly enough time for it. These synths are supposed to share some DNA with Jupiters..well I don't know about that, and I've never owned classic synths or even played any like you have, so it's not something I can give a qualified opinion on. At least among the synths I own, it seems quite unique and fits in well and I quite dig the sound, even if the sound pallete is maybe quite limited. It's also incredibly fun to program. Not sure what else to say about it really, but I'm looking forward to taking for another spin/video hopefully soon. Hard to say if you'd really benefit from a Super 6/8 in your studio, but hopefully you can try it out and see, would be interesting to get your opinion on it if you do get one! It's definitely not a synth I 'need', but then again I'm not sure any of my hardware synths are.
@@stateazure Thanks - I was waiting for a response - and for some reason, RUclips just doesn't tell me if people respond to my comments on their channels. It's really annoying.
I've been on a kick to offload a bunch of synths I haven't used and don't use, so hopefully I can try one out and let you know what I think. I only played a S6 once, so who knows. I find that - probably what makes a soundscape so interesting is more than just the synth (was just watching your Virus TI video from yesterday and that was, like this, excellent - and it just reminds me how much a lot of this is the skill and FX that are used. Hell, most of my stuff is probably not even recognizable because I put them through so much!
FYI - not sure if you've tried one out, but I think you'd get a kick out of the System 8. You can always change the LED colors in post processing if the green annoys you (it annoys me for sure).
@@MIDERA Well RUclips is being weird like that for me often, and by the way YT also blocked your reply here haha..I had to manually accept it, though I think you may have used one of my blocked words (I have it setup very strict to deal with scammers). Your own stuff sounds great and not too much FX imo. I know sometimes people want to hear a dry sound or internal FX only, but we're not doing shop demos! Oh I had a System-8 until now long ago, but I sold it since changing my main MIDI keyboard to a Roland Fantom 8, this kind of covers most of that sound for me. I do have a JD-XA I think I'll keep though, and should probably put that on the desk for an improv soon...so many nice sounds on that thing, and I can see why Ulrich Schnauss liked it so much even though he owns incredible classic synths.
¡Gracias!
Thanks, Igor!
Fantastic sounds, and beautiful chord progressions you're playing here! Spectacular! Btw, I noticed I think the video is displaying all your chords at the bottom right. Is that what's going on? I'm sort of intrigued and interested how you did that. It seems perfectly synced to your playing changes. Did you type all those out by hand?
Thank you! The little chord display is thanks to another program called ChordieApp which you can find online, it's using the MIDI input to see which chords are played and display them. It's just a matter of setting it up so that it's displayed as an overlay.
yessssssssss ❤
...big sound !... Dune naration,!..thx
A beginning… is a very delicate time…
Whoa, hold on a second! Did you get the Super Gemini? That's amazing! Had the chance to try it out at Superbooth in Berlin earlier this year, it's quite impressive. Plus, the developer is a really cool guy too. I'm quite tempted to get one myself. I didnt think it was out yet.
Hey, Soren! Yeah, I've wanted one ever since I saw it when it was first announced. I can never really get to these synth shows/events, but I've liked everything I learned about it. Seems the first batches are shipping out right now to stores!
Great Video thank you so much for the demo. Was this a bitimbral patch you created? been waiting for perfect circuit to get one to demo. I don’t make ambient music, and this has really been pushed in the marketing of ambient music or sountrack kind of stuff. Was wondering if you think it can get aggressive and have you played the super six and how does it compare? Thank you so much.
I've never owned or played a Super 6, but I've heard plenty enough demos to know that I wanted the Super Gemini. SG is kind of like 2xSuper 6 I believe, with some extras, so the sound won't be different when using a single layer/patch in the Gemini I guess, which is what I did here. It's just a single layer using the two oscillators. It can get pretty aggressive when you have the layers in full saturation mode and start using cross modulation, sync, ring mod etc. You can also modulate the filter using DDS2/2nd oscillator, and that gets you into pretty aggressive sonic territory.
My experience is with the S6, but that can definitely get dirty and aggressive. While remaining composed and a little tempered (ie not completely ear-shattering) compared to, say, a really (good)nasty overtone-laden FM patch with no integers in sight on a pure digital synth.
Basically, the character of the analogue filter shines through whether you're making something warm and lush, or cold and glassy, or harsh and jagged. And it's a really good character imo, I also like using the analogue input to apply its filter to some of my digital synths :)
Здоровья и благополучия вам 🙏🤝🤗
What a machine :) Sounds awesome! I'm assuming you added some external reverb, or is it all the Gemini?
I think I used Valhalla Shimmer for reverb, or maybe Supermassive
Omnisphere has hundreds of pads like this one.
спасибо
A big dream
Superbe 👍
Getting Blade Runner vibes from this
Wonderful gorgeousness 💙🖤❤
As always, beautiful vibrations brother! What is that awesome chord/text thing going on the bottom right? I love it.
Thanks! The chord thing is part of ChordieApp a bunch of utilities for showing chords/keys etc via midi.
@@stateazure thanks man. I’ll check it out!
You sonnofa..... So jealous. lol. ....grats. ;)
Hey man, did you throw any mic pre amp in front of the interface to warm up the sound? I have the Super Gemini running into the UFX III but my sound is nowhere near as lush. Its a big sterile and quiet!
Amazing performance and patch design 🙌
Thank you! I don't use any pre amps, it's just direct to the line in. I probably did some post mastering on the audio though!
@@stateazure That would explain a lot! Nothing wrong with a great limiter and mastering chain 🙌
