  • Extremely rare footage (especially the dialogue scene in the car) from Grace's last but unreleased official film "Rearranged" taken from an Japanese TV documentary.
Around 1979-1980, at Grace's apartment in Paris, an idea was born about a comedy of mistaken identity in which Grace would play the leading role. Robert Dornhelm whom Grace worked with on "Children of Theatre Street", would be the director, Jacqueline Monsigny the scriptwriter and American/French actor Edward Meeks her co-star. Grace met them both at the tv festival in Monte Carlo in 1969. Jacqueline & Edward also first met that day on their way to the same tv festival and later got married. Grace therefore lovingly called them "her couple".
The plot of the film is roughly as followed: Professor Nelson an internationally famous astrophysicist had to attend a scientific conference in Monte Carlo. He didn't expected to be picked up from the Nice airport by one of Monaco's Royalty limousine drivers in order to meet Princess Grace. However the moment they met he's instantly mistaken for a journalist named Wilson who writes articles about travel invited to write about the annual flower show presided by Princess Grace herself (so in fact she was playing herself), which would soon be taken place. Professor Nelson tries to explain to Grace that he is mistaken for the wrong person but Grace, who immediately takes him to the gardens and does not draw breath telling about the flower show and how much she expects from his talent for decorating flowers, simply doesn't give him the opportunity to. The one moment he actually is able to tell he hasn't got any knowledge of flowers Grace puts it off as "nonsense, you will do just fine!". As the conference is postponed for a few days, he learns that he has no other option than to be at the mercy of Princess Grace and to enter the spirit of the flower show. It turns out not to be a success and he tries to escape but Princess Grace and her driver catch up with him and during a final dialogue at the backseat of the car the true moral of the story (why a scientist, especially one specialized in comets and stars, can't find a bit of glory from a simple flower, or a bunch of grapes or even a carrot.....) comes out. It's part of this dialogue that can be seen in this video fragment.
It was a short, less than half an hour film and was entirely made in Monaco where citizens of Monaco and even Prince Rainier could be seen. Grace showed it in Monaco during a Premiere to see their reactions and also to a tv network in New York as well as to her friends Frank Sinatra and Cary Grant. They were all very enthusiastic but the tv network wanted 15-20 minutes additional footage which was needed in order to be broadcast on tv (1 hour, including commercials). The extra footage would probably have been made in September 1982 had Grace not met her untimely death that same month in a car crash.
I'm hoping the film will be released on Grace's 100th birthday in 2029.
