The generation gap was one of the most endearing things about this show & finally baby Gen-Zer's who hadn't been introduced to the comedic genius of Steve Martin & Martin Short got to see them in a wonderfully, odd show, being their hilarious selves.
Gen Z aren’t babies anymore. I can legally drink. I pay bills. We also grew up on Steve Martin and Martin Short. I agree that I love the generation gap in this show, but generational divides aren’t helped when you treat gen z like children. I’m not trying to say that about you in particular just that the action can be really irritating in general.
@@hollydodd9933 There are Gen Z kids that are as young 9yrs old as well. I get that once you get bills & are able to get into bars, it's irritating to be called a "child", but no one was coming for the "of age & cultured" Gen Z ppl in that comment. If the statement didn't pertain to you, it likely isn't meant for you. Just food for thought, but if you don't want people to treat you like a child, realize that not everything revolves around you.
@@ITGirlll wow real mature. Also realize gen z are as old as 26 too. Which you would have known if you watched the video. And if you read my comment you’d know I wasn’t trying to be rude at all, just point something out. I never wanted to call you out in particular. Your comment is just what spurred my thought. Seems like you’re the one who thinks the world revolves around them. Take your attitude somewhere else and maybe actually think about a reply instead of getting all defensive.
@@ITGirlll and if you read my comment you’d know I never said you were coming for anyone. All I said is don’t call us children- something you admitted can be irritating. You’re talking out of both sides of your mouth
@@hollydodd9933 Again, seeing as the comment wasn't meant for adult Gen Z and was talking about younger Gen Z - I obviously know there are older Gen Z & tried to let those older Gen Z know I wasn't talking about them by defining my audience. I'm also obviously going to think your comment is directed at me because you responded to me directly. You may have just been voicing a complaint and tried to seem more passive and indirect by adding the "not you..." bit, but if that's really the case, make a new comment & sound off your frustrations. Don't write passive aggressive comments on other ppl's threads & be upset when they call you out. That's childish.
I love how everything in this show, for the most part, fell together nicely and just made sense. The killer and their story made sense, it wasn't just some random character thrown in there. There was enough twists in it that kept you interested as well. The ending leaves just enough questions to keep you hooked without undermining the rest of the story.I love a good mystery.
doesnt explain why jan was trying to get the heat off dimas when knowing dimas' involvement in everything had her off the hook, she had the perfect person to pin the murder on and she was dragging out the investigation
@@MyidolGwen Ok. As I said, the ending leaves some good questions that's probably going to be explored in the next season. However my current theory is that that is tied to the note she received on her door.
The way that fandom was portrayed in this show was so accurate it's almost painful, and the silent episode was by far one of the best of the entire season
I loved Only Murders in the Building. Not only has a great plot, but so gorgeous! Not only that, but i loved that they represent older people in a nicer way, not pretending that your life is over after you turn 40
I love this show so much and at first I was suspicious about the dynamic being two old men and a young woman, but it worked out perfectly and they’re basically like her platonic life partner dads, I’m glad nothing weird happened between any of them (considering most Hollywood pairings) and their relationships was kept wholesome and supportively. Steve, Martin and Selena all have great chemistry together.
they were definitely suggesting that charles had some fixation on mabel when oliver kept doubting her i was questioning why charles was adamant on defending her like he had a cradle snatcher thing going on, i was wrong
@@ca-ke9493 yeah, and too me that was kinda fore-shadowing too. We find out that Lucy isn’t his wife, but his daughter, meaning he didn’t need Jan to fill that void, he needed Mabel, so his arc would have been fine without Jan.
@@MyidolGwen I think the reason Charles had so much trust in Mabel was because he saw their relationship as similar to a father/daughter or grandfather/granddaughter. He kept referring to Mabel as a kid or a young girl and talked about her like a proud parent. He didn't really come across as attracted to her, it seemed to be more of a paternal connection. Fathers often want to have complete faith in their daughters and love them unconditionally. I think Charles was so hurt when he found out Mabel lied because he felt that way about her and saw her as like a daughter. After all, it really does hurt parents when they find out their teens don't trust them anymore.
I thought Steve Martin was gonna be the funniest in the group, but Martin Short was hilarious in most of his scenes and so effortlessly. The back and forth between Selena and Steve was also very funny
I love this show for giving us the trio we never thought we needed ! Also they portrayed fandoms so accurately! I would go on Reddit after watching each episode and there would be threads full of people gathering clues and discussing details of the episode! It was so much fun to read all the comments!
I loved everything about this series. The characters, the plot was fun, the fashion and decor. But what I loved most is what you wrote about, in a world that is seeking to divide us because it's more profitable if we hate each other. this show went against the other way and said we've all got more in common than you think and did it around a cool murder mystery with all the clues on display and with some very funny moments. I am counting down the days until season 2. PS anyone else want to redecorate their house to look like Charles apartment? Sincerely Wwaxwork Esquire.
One of the most important themes i felt in this show was about how lonely we all feel in our individual apartments, which makes us easy targets for bad people.
“Why would she be reading it fearfully by herself” brings back the dan is gossip girl flashback. Maybe the writers did not want it to be jan but will decide at the last minute that it is her. In all seriousness, the writers are more intelligent and creative (don’t at me) than the gossip girl writers, but the parallel is funny.
Oh! I hope that’s the message audiences get out of this 🙏🏽 As an only child (with older parents) I always felt at home with people older than me, and there really is so much to be learned and shared with our elders.
SAME- I am also an only child with older parents- meaning cousins 8-23 years older than me. I was always around my aunts, uncles and grandparents. I made friends with my leaders in after school programs. Still to this day all my friendships are my age or older. From 20s to 80s it is wonderful and I love it. Older people love me cause I am not like most people my age in the way that I love and appreciate them plus see them as anyone else- they are just my friends.
Martin Short stole this show. I also appreciate that Steve Martin was toned down. Selena Gomez was such a random choice, but she worked well and her acting choices contributed to her character's mystery. I really loved the scene in the tattoo parlor as well as the living room when they invited the fans in. I have to say that the body double character's interaction with Oliver was the hardest I've laughed all year.
This is one of he best shows I've seen in a long time!! I'd almost given up on TV, especially after the horrid 9 Perfect Strangers. But this show was smart and knew where it wanted to take you. So lovely.
First, I want Steve Martin's apartment. Second, being a 'boomer' I'm so happy to see a show with cross-generational characters. My husband and I have many friends in our age group and younger than us (by 35 years) and absolutely love these dynamics. We shutter when some friends tell us they are moving to 55+ communities and say to each other, "Why would you want to be around nothing but old people." We love their energy and they love our stories and as one couple said our sassiness, to which I replied, "We're old we can say and get with more." 🤣 We are huge fans of "Only Murders in the Building"! Can't wait for more.
I finished the show two days ago and NOW you upload this video? Perfect timing :) I waited until the show was finished to binge all of it, and it was SO good. I didn't expect to love it that much- The characters were lovable, the crime case was brilliant... Can't wait for the second season!
The show also teaches don’t judge a way someone looks and the capability to do something It subverted expectations in our minds we would have never thought oh the sweet old lady is a sociopathic murderer but now we know even old ladies have the capacity for murder don’t judge a book by it’s cover
can Jan be related to the Dimases? I think that was why Jan was trying to diverge accusations made on the Dimases. I'm pretty sure the note Jan received about being watched was definitely from the deaf guy as we have seen him watching people from afar before. And maybe she also murdered Tim Kono because Tim was about to give away the actual culprit for the girl's death and Jan didn't want that to happen? Can Jan possibly be the deaf guy's mother? Am i missing something here?
I, too, think that Theo left the note for Jan. I believe that Theo figured out that Jan was guilty early on. Since he rightly felt that any investigation into Tim's murder would inevitably expose his own illegal dealings, he offered protection to Jan and helped her cover up her crime. That is why Jan was trying to discourage the podcasters from revealing Theo's criminal activities. That is also why Theo warned her right before his arrest. I also think that Teddy didn't know everything that Theo knew. That is why Teddy gladly sponsored the podcast.
@@dulcimerrafi the dimas storyline was unfinished or poorly finished, i guess that's why mabel's last words implied there were plotholes... i honestly thought they were going to take it in a different direction it almost came off as teddy was controlling theo to the point he was going to snap or go off on him, not wanting to be an accomplice anymore bc it got the girl killed. there was also the mention of a partner in teddy's crimes? did i mishear that? the framed photo?
My theory about the note on Jan's door was that it was from someone who knew she was the murderer or at least up to something and season 2 will reveal that had something to do with Bunny. It's threatening her about the murder itself, not her/the group's investigation of it. That's why she plans the stabbing.

Steve Martin's best project since Roxanne. Silly, sophisticated, funny and heartfelt. Although I must say he and and Martin Short have worked together so often now I'm beginning to wonder what Short has on him.
@@ChantelCarter-cc7cu Yes, but that was the parent generation complaining about their kids, that's normal since the first cave dwellers complained about that newfangled invention of the wheel. The Gen Z and Millennials bickering are sometimes only a few years apart
💕Thx for this Video. Just today I watched the final episode. I searched for a video about it and it makes me happy that my favourite YT channel talks about it.
I have love Steve Martin since I was a kid. I had every one of his albums and listened to them daily for years. I also watched him on SNL from it's beginning when SNL had the first and best cast members. Steve was on it like 27 times. I also watched it because it was one of the few places you could see your favorite bands Like Blondie play. No MTV back then. I was watching with all my friends when MTV first hit TV. The very first song was "Video Killed The Radio Star" and they only had like 15 -20 videos in it's rotation. Good times. Everyone was in love with VJ Martha Quinn
Also Mable threatens Bunny the scene before she is found dead...now I do not think that Mable did it. However, whoever heard her say that knew it was a window of opportunity and could easily blame Mable.
The Kitty Genovese attack is more urban myth than fact. 38 people did not "witness" the attack. Most of those 38 were unaware anything was happening at all. 2 were on the phone to the police. After the attack, a woman did try to treat Kitty's injuries.
I'm pretty sure it's going to end up being Poopy, her and Tina fey are mysteriously they're at the time of arrest. Only after they're involvement in the show did Jan get that message at her door. And poppy has motive, by trying to impress, or is trying to get back at Tina Fey's character. Either she idolizes her or she is going to get her back for taking her credit. We shall see if I am right. And it also would explain why Tina Fey's true crime podcasts are the best and most popular she's either willingly or unwillingly makes them more interesting with her and Poppy's involvement.
Lol I def need to watch this show. I hate the generation wars esp between Y and Z cuz a lot our differences really feel like we’re splitting hairs. That’s why we tend to get grouped together.
What if generation "gaps" have more to do with the actual age and maturity of the people, rather than any of the symptoms exhibited? What if the issues "causing" clashes did not exist? Would some other issues would be used regardless? Can any person in any generation find something to blame other generations about? Do most people just live their age? And have no (or little) recollection of any other age they've lived? I've had a close relationship with a woman half my age for 20 years now. I've learned so much from her, just as a person. And, she says, she from me as well. Neither of us would be where we are right now, without each other.
I think the note on Jan’s door was from Oliver. I think he’s just looking out for Charles and it has nothing to do with murders or the podcast, but the changing group dynamic.
I really enjoyed this series and look forward to the new season, as someone mentioned the voice over when female did remind me a bit of gossip girl, that and the New York setting. But it was a lot better and a totally unique crime dramedy. It is light but also has a some depth to the characters. Easy to watch definitely funny. Good job 👍
Lucy totally has something to do with the notes and Bunny’s murder. The handwriting in the card and the threatening notes look almost identical. I will die on this hill 😤
I'm going to need a list of all the foods in season 1 so I know what to cook for when I throw myself a watch party of one for season 2! I know so far: omelette, hummus, "Gut Milk" (I'll substitute almond milk), ice cream in one of the episodes?,.... not sure what else....
The motive is living space. It's all in the TITLE. Artists need the space.. Shaping the world for the future NOT from your works but the execution of those works!
Did anyone else feel like the scene with Jane Lynch was a cathartic exercise for Steve Martin? The situation described bore several similarities to Steve Martin's relationship with Anne Heche. Anne Heche left him and started a relationship with Ellen Degeneres. Anne and Ellen then broke up after three years.
I loved everything Steve did and have memorized most of his jokes because I heard them so many times in high school. It almost cost me my marriage once. I kept telling my wife about how I was a superior Being and we all escaped from our planet and came here on the giant space Ark. I would say how do you not remember that? Our planet was dying and we had to come here on the space ark remember and the government said not to tell the stupid people because it might effect..........AH Never mind. She made me go to her therapist with her and when she had the Therapist ask me about it I looked her dead in the eye and said ' I don't have a clue what she is talking about " "She is safe to be around right?" My wife refused to speak to me for 3 entire days because the therapist believed me. We've been together for over 28 years now and thankfully my wife has never asked me to go to the therapist since then so it worked. BTW: Steve only told this joke about the Space Ark on SNL Oct. 23rd. 1976 at 1.03.12 just before the end of the show.
Please stop misrepresenting the Kitty Genovese murder as a tale of morally apathetic neighbors. That story is deeply complicated and Kitty deserves better than to be used in this way. There's a great episode on that story from the Podcast "You're Wrong About", listen if you're interested

You guys were the best anyway. That's why Millennials are so messed up. We thought we'd be like you, but we're worse.
@@natalie651 gen x are the ones who failed to raise gen z but go ahead being apathic
I love this show!! I hope it wins Emmys and Golden Globes
Good times. Everyone was in love with VJ Martha Quinn
a brilliant show with brilliant characters. can’t wait for Season 2!
Damn this show was fun truly enjoyed it
Also Mable threatens Bunny the scene before she is found dead...now I do not think that Mable did it. However, whoever heard her say that knew it was a window of opportunity and could easily blame Mable.
I could not get enough of Mabels jackets
I love this show. I miss seeing elder gems like martin short and steve martin acting
The Kitty Genovese attack is more urban myth than fact. 38 people did not "witness" the attack. Most of those 38 were unaware anything was happening at all. 2 were on the phone to the police. After the attack, a woman did try to treat Kitty's injuries.
This is what your take away is? See a shrink.
I loved this show, so glad we're getting a second season.
A show is good when I refuse to be up to date because I wanna save an episode encase I have a bad day and need a pick me up
Mabel is definitely innocent because she uses so many apple products
Haha damn that Rian Johnson. Literally ruined whodunnits forever
👀
Wow I can't believe how close I was on this, pretty good if I do say so
Lol I def need to watch this show. I hate the generation wars esp between Y and Z cuz a lot our differences really feel like we’re splitting hairs. That’s why we tend to get grouped together.
My favorite show nowadays!
What the hell is a gen X? Sounds like a generation of superheroes and supervillains
Who poisoned Winnie?! That is THE loose end that has haunted me!
I think it’s the same person that poisoned Evelyn the cat. Jan didn’t admit to doing that she only speculated.
Currently experiencing an pandemic of loneliness? Perfect time for a video about the value of your nonexistent friends.
Saw this series since the 1st episode and loved it so much
I think the note on Jan’s door was from Oliver.
Good job 👍
This really is THE take on this show
oh come on, I didn't realise the convenience of Savage's stunt double entry
that feels like a major spoiler
Lucy totally has something to do with the notes and Bunny’s murder. The handwriting in the card and the threatening notes look almost identical. I will die on this hill 😤
Wondering if you were going to list Gen X. We've always been the forgotten generation.
I go to sleep to murder shows lol and the show I’m writing has a missing person true crime story arc
I had the ending spoiled for me by the quote when I hovered over this video
I'm going to need a list of all the foods in season 1 so I know what to cook for when I throw myself a watch party of one for season 2! I know so far: omelette, hummus, "Gut Milk" (I'll substitute almond milk), ice cream in one of the episodes?,.... not sure what else....
Lol totally random guess but it’s that African lady NextDoor Tim. She was the only one who vocally tried to stand up to Bunny’s bullying😂🤷🏾
Finally!!! I love this show
I really really want to watch this show.
Do it. It is brilliant!
The motive is living space.
It's all in the TITLE.
Artists need the space..
Shaping the world for the future NOT from your works but the execution of those works!
Great show!
I'm really sad this isn't as popular as it should be! The release was around the same time as squid game so definitely took some light from it
Thought on the last episode, has anyone asked why Canning was there the night that it happened?
please make a video for season 2!!
I didn’t think about that because I honestly didn’t know about Steve Martin relationship. This now put things into perspective
Loved it 😊
I loved everything Steve did and have memorized most of his jokes because I heard them so many times in high school.
4:17 what about who poisoned winnie?????
This show made me listen to the Serial podcast.
I really loved this show!
I'm a millennial who has been thoroughly enjoying watching this with my boomer mum.
Damn maybe it’s time to give this show a try 🤔
Please stop misrepresenting the Kitty Genovese murder as a tale of morally apathetic neighbors. That story is deeply complicated and Kitty deserves better than to be used in this way.
There's a great episode on that story from the Podcast "You're Wrong About", listen if you're interested
I love this show🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Spot on
So many Broadway stars!
Great analysis!
Somehow I still want to live in Acadia building 🥰😘😜😍
Irrelevant but will you make a take video on house md you have made on so many shows including sherlock and have constantly been putting clips of the show in your videos but never actually made a video on it i think it would be great if you did
Of course, anyone familiar with rents in New York knows that this show should more realistically be called “Only Millionaires in the Building”.
All I want to know is how do I get to live in that rent controlled (I assume) awesome building 😭😭😭😭😭
I literally finished this series today💀
Wait.. this is a show? When i saw the trailer thought for sure it was a movie lol
love this show
I love this show
I really wanted to like this show, but I couldn't get past the f- bomb being tossed around like they didn't know any other adjectives.
You must not be from New York
Where r they actually talking about "the ending explained"???
I've never been so early!
Are most millennials parents baby boomers? Mine are gen x, I always figured so were other millennial’s parents were too.
