skylinefilms123 this is great for looking at specifics. We need more videos like this that shine light on inappropriate behavior because I think it’s 100% possible that some people don’t even realize they are behaving in ways that is not acceptable.
I'm really glad I found this topic, I didn't gave the proper attention before, If ever make a collection to a fashion runway I'll get sure my models feel safe.
So, are you saying an industry where young, attractive, and often financially vulnerable women who are desperate to sell their looks for a shot of fame and wealth is rampant with sexual predators?
There's an episode of Americas next top model where the girls have to have a nude shoot and they weren't told about it. There was a model who said that she didn't want to do it but she got pressured into it at the end.
America's next top model is such garbage. The brand taints their models' careers and the girls get put in no-win situations. In the case you spoke of, the girl who refused got portrayed on screen as "difficult to work with" and the general advice she got was to just suck it up and "be a professional". Same goes for the makeovers they do. The models usually look worse and get their looks altered dramatically just for a "shock effect" that lasts about 1 minute on TV. Remember that dude who got the beard weave? Or the girl who got her teeth permanently altered because tooth gaps were in fashion. And if they say no, they get kicked out. It's disgusting. I don't get why people have such a high opinion of Tyra Banks when she's responsible for this trash.
@@elintilia2790 a poor girl got a mullet. A MULLET. A girl cried because she didn't wanna do the side shave and everyone made it look like she was dramatic or something for not wanting to KEEP HER OWN HAIR. Absolutely disgusting.
I don’t think the changing room thing is a big deal, especially backstage at a fashion show since it’s usually pretty hectic and people need to change fast in such instances. It only becomes sexual harassment if they actually touch you with devious intentions, and pressuring someone without prior warning to do a nude shoot is definitely wrong.
I guess so, as long as their is a designated room for certain people to enter like models and their dressers. No photography or cellphones to keep some form of privacy.
Okay, I work in the fashion industry and let me just say, I’ve worked backstage at New York Fashion Week and yes, it’s an intense environment but like any other industry, there’s things you’d have to expect like changing in front other other people and letting people touch you in terms of adjusting the outfit.
Doing a nude photoshoot, I actually had my intimate area touched from behind, he snuck up on me and touched them. If I didn't tell him stop, he might've tried to do more. I was really upset and disgusted by this, even though it wasn't more than that. Never modelled again!
0:31 if they ask to do the shoot topless, it’s not harassment. They are simply asking the model to do the shoot the way that the director(s) has intended. It’s not to make him/her uncomfortable; they don’t have to do it. In addition, when people on set adjust your clothes, it’s because in their eyes, they see an imperfection and want to make the shoot look good by making your clothes look good. They don’t really have to ask, they just need to say something like “excuse me” or “pardon, but I gotta adjust your clothes really quick”.
Are you stupid? You missed the whole point of the video. Asking a young woman at the time of shoot under pressure is sexual harassment. Even actresses have spoken out about it. Such requests should be done well in advance go allow the woman to more time and under less pressure to respond.
Wait... Why are they trying to put this on the agencies? If the agencies book the gigs, and then the gigs(photo people and related companies) ask something extra... The photo taker and external company should be liable. The Agency should NOT be liable if someone TAKES advantage of a person. The SOMEONE who takes advantage of them should be liable. WTF? Am I missing something? The agency is not a keep-it-all-safe-and-hugs-and-kisses-lets-be-friends-foundation
@Tanvir Miah That is a poor excuse. From the documentaries of fashion shows, the models have long being measured and fitted into their designated clothes a few days before the show.
Emerald Mara85 this is a documentary, it doesn't mean the it represent all of them. They took measurements 1-2 weeks before, but within this time, your body can still change, not much, but it can. They want the clothes to fit PERFECTLY. And really think about it, if they use those thing often, at the end,the cost per use get reduce, since it is a one time purchase
I think asking for consent evey single time from a model to fix clothes or acting seductively for the camera can be excruciating. But if you are going to touch sensitive parts of model to fix something, then consent is a must. But one thing is beyond my understanding, why are models not called employees?
As a model, you're essentially a living breathing mannequin for the designer. You're allowing them to poke and prod, and sometimes it needs to be done very quickly (no change room). You are asked immediately in your career if nudity bothers you. Is this truly sexual harassment? I'd say no. There's no sinister or deviant intentions within the context of a backstage area during a show or shoot. Are there perverts in the industry? Yes. But where is the line drawn? How and when can you claim legitimate harassment in an industry that demands access to the model's body?
+pindaenbeer What shoots are you attending where there are 15 year olds running around naked and being touched? Uh... call the police. I've never seen this in a studio or backstage. Is my experience unique or something?
+pindaenbeer I'm all for better working conditions. Why not? However, some posters on here are making it sound like a scene from "eyes wide shut". I've always seen a high level of professionalism in this idustry. Is the industry perfect? Nope. Are there weirdos? Yup. Have I ever seen the weirdos touch the youngins? Nope. But I'll accept that my experience may not be everyone's experience.
FastZebra Zoom This is easily one of the stupidest comments I've seen. Models are people, not mannequins. If people want to put clothes on mannequins that's their right. But since they're using people and not mannequins there is a difference in how you're supposed to treat them. Sex work =/= modelling. Even within the sex work industry you still have the right to not be harrassed, to be assaulted or exposed when you don't consent. Within the modelling & sex work industries your body is your commodity and you can exercise control over it. If people grope you & that's not what you signed up for, that's sexual assault. This agency seeks to represent to models and protect them, especially kids under 18. If you aren't a pervert, you shouldn't have any problem with them. What is your fear exactly? Oh no, these models have representation and advocates working with them? Oh my god, they are being treated as employees and the photographers are so weak and they're being crushed by the models? Get out of here.
How many of these people would be running these stories as advocates but be silent with torturing women in cults ? Might want to ask that...to determine authenticity of such narratives...
Revealing clothes arouse men? I mean what’s not to see here. It’s pretty simple why this is and there’s no need for a video. Sexual clothing or sexual posing attracts the opposite and sometimes the same gender. It’s part of our nature. If a lady is in a bikini and has 1 layer hiding her sexual organs as you put it. I for one would be aroursed though I’m not one to flirt much with women.
If your a model you know what your signing up for if course they are going to fix you up because your showing off your body your a piece of art just like if you had a painting your going to fix up the edges.
Awwww poor models ..... Such a hard life . This is almost as ridiculous as when Kylie jenner complained about her being an "out-cast" and acting as if her life was so hard lol . 😂
isieaha Sara everyone has the right to complain. You don't know their life. The assumption that beautiful and successful women can't complains assumes that they must be happy. And that puts pressure on everyone else to become beautiful and successful in order to be happy.
mixie madly . When did I ever say anything about beauty ? What I'm saying is , if modeld don't like the way they're treated they should stop whining and stop modeling . Easy as that ...
isieaha Sara or why don't you just reform the industry? Why shouldn't it be improved? Maybe they want to model but don't want to be touched and want some privacy? Is that really unreasonable?
mixie madly . That's like saying " instead of choosing not to drinking milk or eat eggs we should change the entire industries " . Maybe your naive mind thinsk that the industries will change , but in reality they won't .
isieaha Sara we should try to change the milk and egg industry off course. I chose not to consume those products because I know that nothing has changed. You can't just hope for it. People can easily not sexually harass people, it's not hard to set up a changing room. However, changing the dairy and egg industry would require lots of regulation, less demand on the industry and more awareness. I
This is rly interesting, it's always fascinating to zero in on a single industry and job.

It doesn't seem fully honest, that is why.

"I started working as a model at the age of 14.." - There you go!
that's just scary

Lack of changing room is a big deal if there are cameras (including cell phones) allowed and if too many people have access to the area.
Okay, I work in the fashion industry and let me just say, I’ve worked backstage at New York Fashion Week and yes, it’s an intense environment but like any other industry, there’s things you’d have to expect like changing in front other other people and letting people touch you in terms of adjusting the outfit.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you're recovered from this outrage
The more I learn, the more I am disgusted by the whole idea of a fashion industry
And what grow alone with and don't take responsiblity for despite often being the biggest bullies about what she thinks a person looks like they are.
Seems weird cause a lot of actors model as well
they don't do it professionaly, usually.
0:31 if they ask to do the shoot topless, it’s not harassment. They are simply asking the model to do the shoot the way that the director(s) has intended. ...yeah, lemme also get a hard-on while I adjust the sleeve there. Perfect for the mental wankbang

ruclips.net/video/bbHkZeLSgTQ/видео.html
of course there is more sexual harassment. Models are freaking beautiful and they often dress lightly. What do you expect is gonna happen?
If people think fashion models are only paid to wear clothes and take photos, they're delusional. They are traded around.
I half expected this even without knowing this
Nope. Prostitutes are more likely to get harassed. Models are somewhere between that and librarians.
Independent contractors should have protection against sexual harassment too.
Wow. Thank you for lighting this topic

I read somewhere that in runway shows there are no changing rooms (private ones) so you have to change sorta in 'public'
There are portable changing rooms which are so super affordable but they much rather pay for fine dining and expensive wine. Just a bunch of excuses.
Sad
Sorrowful Spaceship there are no changing room, since they need to constantly modify the clothes so it perfectly fit
@Tanvir Miah

Damn all those models look like a light breeze will blow them away, they’re starving.

Dont model then! It's a bunch of creepy dudes taking pics galore, what did you expect?

okay dancers change in front of the each other all the time so that is no big deal.

saying can we do topless on the day is NOT harassment hahahaha, if you harass the person then its harassment.
Then get another job
Lei M The fashion industry NEEDS models, how about they show a little respect for the bodies that display their product.
no? lol. the job is fine, it's just the working conditions that need a little work.
It only happens to women!
