A real True Legend. Sir Elton John, the soundtrack of my entire life since 1972. I love this time ( 1979 ) Great talent, great setlist, great musicians. Elton in my heart til'the end of times.
I was there on the second night...was this the first or second show? Ok I can’ tell its the first show as he says after your song “it’s great to be back in the windy city again” when I saw him he said “it’s great to be back in Chicago again” I flew there from Florida with my brother to see this show. I found it difficult to hear what he was saying even at the time...between songs I mean...I too have a recording which I may post one day...recorded on a cheap cassette player. I’m typing this as I listen ( have only heard your song so far and 60 years on is playing as I write) somehow I missed a few songs...but did get most of the show. After middle piano solo....of Bennie...I don’t know must have pushed pause or something...lost a few...”sorry seems “never got on there and sadly neither did “mama can’t buy you love”. At 13 and a bit scared I’d get caught...but still have it ...I do remember him talking about a double album...but again so barely audible. There was some kind of lawsuit at one time about certain songs...perhaps around the time he signed with geffen...I think a lot of 21@33 And the fox songs were recorded at the same time. My guess is neither Mca nor geffen wanted to market a double album...as ej was kind of re-emerging and it wouldn’t be a sure hit (little Jeanie proved to be huge in the u.s. but nothing else off that album charted too high and sadly nothing off of the fox made much of a dent here either). I don’t know why nobody wins was a single, poor choice in my opinion,I wonder if Chloe would have done better had it been released first. I did make a couple copies for friends so I hope it doesn’t surface without my consent (my 1993 sunrise musical theatre show got uploaded...without my permission...kind of annoying but I guess that’s life,if you have questions about that show I can fill in the gaps, my recording has me and my sister screaming “welcome “ as he comes onstage.I’ll try and get my 79 show uploaded one of these days .
wow.. good stuff. Yes, a double-album at that time as he was 're-establishing' would have been a bit silly really. i wish he'd have commented on this sort of thing rather than the rubbish he did in "Me" but, well, you cant win 'em all :)
@@ncf1 yea most of What I read of “me” was in the bookstore...someday I’ll read it all...I just felt like it was full of “eltonspin” and a lot of stuff I didn’t need to know...like the story of the guy he got with in Russia, just not my thing. But I’m sure there’s a book or two that mentions this topic...but yea a double album in 1980, sounds like a gamble for the record company, my opinion, even though I would have loved that.
@@bruceski2133 right, there's not much new in the book at all if youre a long-time Elton fan. I think there was actually another time he mentioned a double-album coming up... maybe it was before Breaking Hearts, I think I recall he said it in an interview. But I could be wrong.
Hello bruceski2133 please contact me! Thanks in advance!!
You need to fix the Timestamp on "He'll have to go"
Fixed, Thanks
he spoke of an 'upcoming double album' - i wonder if '21 at 33' and 'The Fox' were meant to be a single collection?
Maybe some tracks from ‘The Fox’, but probably some B-sides and others tracks recorded but shelved.
@@chenlung1 right, i'd say thats likely the case.
@@ncf1 I made a comment about your comment....in my post I know there’s books which talk about the lawsuit somewhere around 80-81...I think they weren’t letting him use the songs as they thought they weren’t up to snuff.
