I used to do plumbing in new construction, mainly subdivisions being built on former farm land. Rats move in before the house is finished. Cattle, sheep, goat or chicken farm you are going to have rats and mice.
@JRRnotTolkien I've heard it has to do with the lubricant they are using to pull wires/cables in the wiring harnesses, they were using coconut oil or something. But maybe the rodents like the plasticizers used in the insulation?
This is not an isolated issue, a neighbor of ours had a rat chew through the plastic water lines in the kitchen of her mobile home, though I am not sure if it was PEX or Polybutylene pipe, either way they had to gut part of it and start over.

I didn't know they would eat pex, thanks for the video.
Rodent also chewed away wires to the HVAC zoned controlled motors. Both zone motors have to be replaced.
