    Hey Matty great vids mate a suggestion (theres always a fking but! Hahaha)
    Nar just with ya barrel if ya cut it under the lip on the side instead the that concave ring on the top there actually fits next to perfectly over the side walls and you dont have to stress about miscuts or falling in (though the standpipe obviously stops a lot of that haha)

      Thanks mate!
      Yeah I’ve seen Rob from Rob Bobs Backyard Farm & Aquaponics do what your saying too. The reason I cut it like this is because I’m actually going to make a wooden lid to go with the rest of the timber cladding on the system.

    Great work! Loved the whole series.
    Will a 90 degrees elbow work as well? Can’t get my hands on a 45.

      90 degrees elbow will drastically slow down your water flow

    awesome videos, I will be building my system down here in Adelaide based on your videos. Is there a reason why you use 2 45° elbows instead of a single 90° elbow?

      Hi there,
      All the best with your upcoming Aquaponics build. The problem with using 90 degree elbow’s is that the sharp right angle can significantly reduce the flow rate due to water friction inside the pipe. When you use two 45 degree angles instead of a 90 degree angle you minimise the water friction and maximise the flow rate inside the system. In other words, it makes the water flow faster in your system.
      Cheers

      @@shaunconniff You can use a 90* long sweep elbow instead. It's not only 2 less joints that can leak, it's cheaper than 2x 45's.

    Is there any reason to use 2 45deg elbow vs 1 90deg elbow? My guess is to lessen the water flow speed - but wouldn't hurt to ask :)

    may i ask if there is a purpose to why you used 45's angle instead of using 90° angle?

    • @cato7902
      @cato7902 2 месяца назад

      Its to prevent 90° dramatically reduce water flow and pressure loss

    You could save some money and fittings by using uniseals instead of those bulkhead fittings.

    • @mattysbackyard9244
      @mattysbackyard9244  Год назад

      Very true, however i feel that the quality is better with the sturdier bulk head fittings.

    I have the blue drum for my radial flow settler. Lately water has been flowing out the top of it and I'm not for sure why. I cleaned out the water pump pumping water into it. I have also cleaned out the heavies out of the blue drum. Any idea why?

    • @mattysbackyard9244

      Hi D K, if water is flowing out of the top of it then it means that the water is flowing in faster than it’s flowing out.
      You will either need to reduce the flow rate coming into the radial flow settler, or increase the flow rate out of it.
      This could be achieved by either installing a ball valve going into the blue barrel so that you can regulate the flow, or by increasing the pipe diameter going out of the blue barrel.
      Do you have a pump in the fish tank?
