    That's super cool! Yes, M2 or M3 feel snappier opening apps in everyday use, and they are faster in general, but as an audio work horse this Mac allows you to keep your current workflow for many years to come (and that's exacly why it exists, Apple had to launch it right before Apple silicon for that reason). No need to change your entire setup, no need to use external drives for everything, and honestly, it's a safer computer if something breaks. You can buy and replace SSD, RAM or GPU in just a few hours instead of having to send the entire machine to Apple for weeks. Can't wait to see more content about it!

      We have to keep the 5,1 around due can run old 32bit app and games. 7,1 and later can’t go back in time since it’s pure 64 only. Mac game store stated on games must use Rosetta 2 to play

      I will be keeping and loving my 5,1 as well. Can't beat a machine that can run like 13~16 different MacOS versions and well at that! But I bought a 2019 to replace my 2013 as my daily driver.

  • @aviadstark6215

    You are gonna love this machine. I transitioned from a 5,1 to a 7,1 two to three months ago. I bought it for like $2300 from a studio that closed - was like 3 months old. Upgraded the RAM, CPU (24-core), NVMe array, USB-C, USB etc etc - was well worth it. The hard part was getting a CPU for this machine - they are very hard to come by. You will see though with the graphics card that it needs to be a specific size. I picked one up on eBay. Only specific cards will fit this thing. I got a Dell Alienware AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB GDDR6 card which fits this thing. It is lightning fast - you won't look back once you get everything moved!

    • @MacSoundSolutions

      Yes my Sonnet rx6800xt just fits.

    • @aviadstark6215
      @aviadstark6215 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@MacSoundSolutions that's right - those I think were "designed" to fit those machines. I really hope that someone finds a way to "hack" these 7,1s to provide support for AMD's 7 Series GC's - it's really annoying that Apple just won't do it. What's even weirder is that Apple is in talks with Nvidia so maybe we'll see support for their cards in the future? The 7.1 is such an amazing machine - it's a total bummer they turned into the M2 dud that it is - empty box with no magic... thanks Apple. I love my 5,1 but it was starting to show its age - it was lagging on basic tasks - this thing is fast as hell especially if you build an NVMe array inside - oh man - 12-16K RPMs.

But I’ve done a lot of upgrades. A new 28 core cpu NVME’s and many more. This is exactly why I got the Mac Pro, expansion! 11 works and shows up in the system prefs start up disk, I have to hold option to boot back into Mac OS after booting into windows so need a wired keyboard. With opencore you can just select which disk you want to boot into via the OC boot loader on my 5,1.

    • @dmug
      @dmug 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@MacSoundSolutions Oh nice, so it was EFI install since OpenCore compatible. ProTip, using the lightning cable makes the wireless keyboard work like a wired keyboard, I have a long lightning cable that I have mostly for that purpose.

    • @MacSoundSolutions
      @MacSoundSolutions  7 месяцев назад

      @dmug Yes figured that one out early as I have a magic track pad and it works while plugged in. I did find out to boot off external systems you need to boot into recovery mode and select allow to boot off other drives, something like that, it would not boot off windows without enabling that, and yeah Windows 11 is a UEFI install via rufus with TPM disabled. Runs great, getting about 20fps faster in the same games with the new Mac and rx6800xt. Pretty sure it’s the GPU as I can see the Mac pros fans monitored in iStat and they are not revving up.

    • @dmug
      @dmug 7 месяцев назад

      @@MacSoundSolutions I’m about to upload a vid comparing the Mac Pro 5,1 vs 7,1 with a 6600 XT, the games tested, not a lot of difference which is expected as targeting visual fidelity over frame rate.

    • @MacSoundSolutions
      @MacSoundSolutions  7 месяцев назад

      @@dmug Nice... I have an odd thing going on with my 6800xt as the fans spin up and down every 10 minutes or so to a pretty loud level. It doesn't do it in windows till I start a game then fans are very loud, but back to the Mac even when not doing much the GPU fans kick up then back down. It did it in my 5,1 and possible started after one of the Monterey updates, and now in the 7,1 but it is running the same system as my 5,1 as I migrated all my data. Any thoughts? There might be an app that is causing it or the OS not sure. There is no way to monitor temps, or fan speeds of the GPU.

    im also thinking of upgrading as i feel the Macpro on opencore has been a bit odd when booting
    sometimes it will hang and have a critical error and thats on macos 13 and 14 with opencore legacy patcher.
    but im also happy that some our Pcie Cards can work in PC or other intel Macs that are newer so when i get the mcfiver card it should
    work in a newish mac or intel pc. im not sure if ill get to upgrade to a 7,1 as i do seem to like windows and being able to fully

    First, love your channel! I was hoping to find a Mac Pro to be a NAS and media server but I've decided on getting the 45Labs HL15 that will run ProxMox and TrueNAS with ZFS. I have a Mac Studio M2 Ultra and it is incredibly fast. I wasn't concerned about expandability since I'm just a photographer and developer. But I used to build all my own PCs years ago and built my own NAS about 7 years ago that is still running. But its running out of storage now and I don't feel like replacing 8 drives in this machine. Hence, why I'm looking to upgrade now.

    I just picked up a Mac Pro 2013 😆. I am going to be using a lot of your tips to see if I can get this old thing running pretty good. (It's got 32 GB ran at 1866 MHz, 512 TB SSD, and the AMD FirPro D500 twin GPU's). I may pick up one of these 2019's in a month or two. I hope to dual boot Window's and get one of the latest versions of Mac. I think this one has Monterey 12.7.4 currently.

    I understand that Apple products have the chiplet tile design on their CPU, but as a PC guy what is the benefit to using a Mac when they're so expensive and you get so little specs for your money? My Dad swears by them and there's no talking him out of the simplicity at his age but I just don't get it. The only thing I can say is my IPhone is much more dependable and streamlined to use than a Android is, so is that basically the same thing? Very interesting though that you can find a way to put the Radeon GPU's in there. I'm working with a RTX 4080 on a PC and I love it with the Nvidia encoder and all.

    I'm eyeing these 7,1 MacPro's on ebay,I think from the same company you bought yours from. I've got a 6,1 trash can, and I consider it a Mac Mini that dosen't suck, lol! Unfortunately, Monterey is out of support later this year, and I'm not doing the Open Core thing (been there done that with my brothers 5,1!). Now I've owned a M1 MacMini and it was great for what I use a Mac for, but I like to tinker as well, so......

      @@macgamer1973 not even close to the same thing. When Apple went from PPC to Intel they went from a superior architecture to a much worse one, so it took quite some time before Intel Macs actually ran better than the high end PPC configurations. This time they are moving to a superior architecture (ARM), but they just have no interest in doing what needs to be done for an ARM-based pro. They put a mobile CPU in a big hollow case and gave it no expandability. Fake PCIe slots don't count.

      @@macgamer1973 Highly unlikely. If you still believe Apple really cares about the pro market, I can't help you. Hmm. Not sure to be honest! I too like to tinker and upgrade, but we’re over the apex for these Intel Macs. In a year or two at the most you’ll lose official Mac OS support. Then, or perhaps before, 3rd party software will be shipped as AS Mac only. I hate to point out the obvious but unless Apple turns, there’s no future in upgradable and tinker able Macs!
