A real polyglot and a language coach who has a very realistic point of view in language learning. Luca Grazie mille!!🙏You give us a lot of motivation!!🙏💐
Hi Luca! 👋👋Great takeaways. It's definitely not just about vocabulary. Even using filler words in your target language correctly while you're trying to remember what "frustrating" translates to in Greek can add to your fluency. Confidence is a huge part of fluency.
Yeah greek learner here from Holland. It is very difficult for me but i am so motivated to speak a little more when i go back this year that i am keeping it up. When i went in september the reactions were so nice from the locals. I sang a song with a taxi driver and enjoyed it so much. My favorite song by Marika Ninou ti simera ti avrio ti tora. I bought a cd there for in my car and every time i go for groceries i listen to it. Good luck everybody and i agree Luca,. the channel easy greek is wonderful.. also greek pod 101 is one i watch a lot. They have a bunch of pdf's on their website too. Greetings and thx Luca for the encouragement xxx Juliette
@@ioannastekiapantou yes i makes a lot of sense to me to learn through music as i listen to it a lot on a daily basis. It is so nice to understand it a bit more every time i listen. Where are you from? I've never been to the mainland yet. But crete when i was young, kos many times (at least 10), cyprus and corfu once and rhodes is where i went in september. Greetings xxx
@@petrosstefanidis6396 Yes it's hard but,. we will both get there. But i guess it's simular as we need to get to know a completely different alphabet than what we grew up with. Which is the same for our english right. If i think about it, it was a bbc show that i watched as a kid every saturday morning which was on reapeat on a sunday. So on sunday i knew kind of what was coming and so it got a little easier. I guess we need to approach it the same. You for your Russian and i for my greek. I wish you good luck Petros. I have to agree with him. Fluency is more than words and phrases, in my personal experience it is intimate bond how much confident you’re in a language. When I lived in another country, people non native speakers I used to talk with I didn’t have any issues to talk to, however conversely native speakers I mostly had issues cause in my mind I wouldn’t understand them, so kinda barrier happened in my thoughts. To solve these problems I’ve been doing as much input as I can in order to understand everyone and mitigate my matter.
I'd like to see a study done in which language learners spoke (by phone) with both native and non native speakers of a target language, but were lied to about who the native speakers are... would the perceived comprehension go up if the person thought the speaker was non native?
It also helps that greek people are incredibly supportive when it comes to foreigners learning their language, I've had nothing but encouragement and praises from greek people whenever I went there and talked to them in their language
Thanks again for the inspiration Luca. I too am learning Greek and I really struggle with listening comprehension and speaking the language. Getting vocabulary to stick in my head is also a challenge. Having studied Italian, Spanish, French and German, Greek is definitely a different animal with new challenges. Glad to hear it does get better... eventually.
Greek is way harder than i expected its far from the hardest language but people told me it was going to be easy so i didn't put in as much effort as i should have
I’m continuing my struggle with Korean and you’d think that my experience with previous languages would give me a huge step up on the process but it doesn’t. I forget the details of what I did before. And I think I’m less patient because I’ve already made it so to speak and it seems like it should be faster and easier than before but it’s not.
Feeling the same way with Japanese but I feel like being intermediate is more of climbing a mountain than the beginning stages for sure .... Because I don't feel progress like I used to at all.
I can't imagine YOU were frustrated.🙂 Just kidding. Everyone is from time to time, of course, because we always think we could do more, our progress could be faster, we could be better and so on.
Hello Luca nice to see you around!👋 Nice viceo, yes they're three important pilars of language learning and I can say that I'm good at two of them, I have plenty patience too much sometimes 😅, I listen to English content from the accent I want to acquire and others like American a lot but, I fall when it comes to speaking and so use the language for real. I had just a couple of occasion where my 😒 terrible shyness blocked me severaly, once I was in the mountains at a famous lake in my area and I bumped into a small group of five teenagers who I heared speak English and French but I, I was there thinking in my head strange things.😅🤦♂️ Anyway, this year I'd like to overcome that and go out and bloom!😅 Yeah, that is a point I must improve for sure, your suggestions on this would be appreciated indeed. Thank you very much 🙏👋
What resonates with my experience learning languages for four decades is your crucial point about needing patience. There are times in your life, or specific languages, like Greek in your case or Bengali in mine, where you need to let the learning advance at its own cadence even if you've learned other languages faster or started speaking or or reading advanced material sooner with other languages. I don't use Lucas' methods but one thing all of us can take away from whatbhe is imparting is that need to trust ourselves and our learning process!
Grazie mille Luca. I've been learning italian for about three years.I talk with a couple of friends each week and I have 3 lessons per month . I am generally a confident person but I still come unstuck. My point is that your point about patience I think is one of the key points. If we can keep positive, laugh at our mistakes and keep going that in itself is rocket fuel for eventual success.
I had to spend a lot of extra time working on my Mandarin and Cantonese pronunciation when I was learning them. Vietnamese is much harder for me to learn. But Spanish has been a lot easier for me, pronunciation-wise.
We also have to be realistic alot of us are learning languages later in life 40+years old. Being able to speak any language is a reason to be thankful!

this came out at a perfect time! I'm starting to learn modern greek as I prepare for a month long stay in Athens in june!
What happens if I do not understand ->what happens if I don’t understand (sounds more natural in English)
On one hand yes, on the other hand contractions are sometimes dropped to create an emphasis.

Γιατι δεν μαθαίνουν οι πολύγλωσσοι ελληνικά; Ολες τος άλλες γλώσσες τις διαλέγουν ελληνικά γιατί όχι;
Μας έχουν στο φτύσιμο!😂
Thank you for your insights🙏👍
Luca! Do you find Greek more or less difficult than Slavic languages?
I find it slightly easier (or less difficult), but only slightly!
Any idea how many hours have you learned greek during those two years? Measuring learning time in years is not really relevant either.
I'd say an average of 30 minutes a day, every day, over the last 2 years
