I don't know if it's been mentioned by anyone else, but i think part of the reason single-player content is so important these days is because playing online is now a twofold cost on consoles, cuz you have to be able to afford internet alongside ps plus and xbox gold. Singleplayer content is the stuff that allows people who may not be able to afford those kinds of monthly payments to still have a reason to play the game

I know I’m in the minority, but my favorite genre is fighting games yet I absolutely hate playing against other people. I guess for me, the fun has always been learning combos and seeing arcade endings / story mode. I would rather thrash the CPU with fancy combos and have fun that way. I’m way more hyped for SF6 now because of the addition of all the NRS style single player stuff.

Having 18 characters this time is forgivable here especially when the other content more than makes up for it.
    - Open World Story Mode
    - Customizable Avatars with their own custom movesets.
    - Fully Playable Retro Arcade Games (MegaMan The Power Battle's in the line-up to my surprise! :D)
    - A Mode with Hazards and Gimmicks Turned On
    - Actual Minigames (The vehicle destruction one is always funny, ngl.)
    - And even with the SF2 nostalgia, 7 of the base roster characters are new faces. Meaning that the roster is more balanced with more newcomers without distancing too far from series faces.
All in all, good job making up for the smaller number here. You guys DEFINITELY put much more effort into this game.

The foundation for this game is *incredibly* strong. The roster is going to be absolutely massive by the time anyone even thinks of considering Street Fighter 7.
And why would you? You can keep adding more content, more modes, more create a character items, more main character costumes, improving graphics like SFV did over time.
This game has potential to last until like 2030. 18 characters at launch is just perfect considering what potential we have here.

As an addition to Torgi talking about single player content, for capcom to maybe span their audience wider then hear me out...
In Street Fighter 6 they mention how your custom character can grow by strengthening your bonds with the world warriors who are the one's who teach you your special moves, the draw of a lot of street fighter characters and any fighting game character in general is their background and personalities. it can also be for their moveset's, but there's a lot of story to these characters that can get people hooked on them. if we want more small details in Street Fighter then what we need is...
A Dating sim Mechanic when you interact with the world warriors as your custom character.
No I'm not kidding, Rival Schools already had this in mind with Nekketsu Seisyun Nikki school sim mode. also a good way to segway more Rival Schools characters hopefully as DLC because everyone loved Akira Kazama. Also, all the characters have grown older? great, give me older and graduated Batsu or Kyosuke, Capcom. they have to look dope.
Plus, if we really want to expand on the personalities of some of our favourite world warriors, be that getting to know their favorite foods, their culture, them recalling past events, personal ideologies that reflect on their own fighting style. just something to really good with a hint of sweetness that is the juice that jumps off the meat that could be what Street Fighter 6's content ends up being!
Maybe I'm being too hopeful, street fighter hasn't really always had the best writing or naritive, looking at past examples-
but Capcom has been changing too, so maybe that can change... just maybe...

18 characters made from scratch (Luke aside, though he was made for SF6 first then reused for SFV) isn’t a bad base roster at all. It’s just that the leaks colored a lot of our expectations, which Max mentioned in his video was the problem. Also, I’m liking Lily’s redesign compared to the one that leaked.
As for World Tour, I might have to use pad for it given that we have full camera controls with the right stick. And regarding Story Mode, it’s being combined with Arcade Mode.

Street Fighter 6 is MASSIVE, the starting roster couldn't be particular big, but the game is so big even with the limitations of the base roster that you already have a full game without counting the roster.
I mean, I believe this game could only include the World Warriors and it could already be perfectly a $40 game, and that is lowballing the value.
Though, I wonder if choosing the World Warriors to be part of the base roster wasn't just nostalgia, but in order to set up the archetype of moves that you can learn in the story mode, after all the playable characters in World Warriors gave you different tastes of character archtype.

Its really fitting that Capcom kept piggybacking the characters ages, making prequel after prequel to 3rd Strike, and finally decided to move its story forward now that the children who played SF in the 90s aré all around 30 (some few pushing 40), so now we can say our beloved fighters grew up along with us...

You know sitting on it, I think a big difference between the release of V and VI kind of comes down to how Capcom handled buffering the delay. Street Fighter V was rushed out the door both to meet Capcom's fiscal deadline but to also move onto the next game for their CPT season. Rather than similarly rushing VI out the door, Capcom this time sat back and made an extra "emergency" season of DLC for Street Fighter V to compensate for the delay.
People sometimes forget, but Season 4 was actually planned to be the final season of DLC for V.

There is quite a bit of misinformation regarding development for sf6 in this video
What you are mentioning as scrapped years of development that is what's true for sf5 not 6
Sf5 was intended to be a hyper realistic sf game kinda like tekken (u can even find a dev screenshot of that version if u look for it ),
That was scrapped from the years of development for sf5 and they had to rush shit up to get something on stage
You can search for an article by eventhubs about what Matsumoto said in an interview about sf6 development which stated that it started from 2018 and that he wrote a 92 page proposal about battlehub and world tour and fighting ground
Which basically almost none of that has changed from beginning till the end
There is also an another article i think either about Matsumoto or nakayama saying that this has been the most joyful development process that have ever been through
So what you said about developing entirely 3 different game modes essentially in just 3 years or so doesn't make any sense and its virtually impossible

I had a feeling that the team was trying to mold Metro City into SNK South Town. Garou had all these neat locations that all took place in different areas around town, including Marco's forest which was on the outskirts. CAPCOM even revealed that Honda was opening a chanko-style restaurant in Metro City, so I think this theory holds weight (pun intended). I agree. I think the roster is kind of bland. I love the whole cast design, everyone looks great. But some of the choices just speaks safe. Having the original 8, which is nice to see on paper, I could’ve done without. The same number of new characters, are the same of the originals lol. I think Capcom should have started with more new characters, and characters we have not see in a while make a comeback. They PSTD about what happened in SF3, that their going with what works. There returning characters are fan favorites like Juri and Rashid. Their playing it safe like I said, and it’s shame. Because there’s making some really interesting and inventive ways of making this a unique fighting. I wish the aspect of thinking would have reflective the rooster. It’s the worst roster ever, but I believe they could have done a better job.

If they had an alpha and a SF3 rep it would lessen the sting of this roster for alot of folks (praying Alex joins the roster for he was my main in Sf3) but man just seeing the amount of content this game has is just something else, and I bet they still have some unannounced goodies to show. It could be due to me being in my early 20's and not being there for the 90's when Ken was peak cool but I was honestly pretty on-board for Capcom to throw him into the ringer for 6 literally just so something happened that wasn't "Ken's cocky and he loves his family". I think people gravitated so heavily towards the divorce thing because for as one-dimensional of a development in character as it is, Ken's basically always been an incredibly one-dimensional character so there wasn't even much to latch onto other than "fuck it just take his family away and now he's pissed." I'm with you on the single player modes. Sometimes when playing SF5 I get so frustrated when the lag kicks in and negative edge makes me do a move I didn't want to do. Then you have to deal with salty opponents who want to curse you out even if they won. Would much rather have modes where I don't have to deal with any of that and still experience new stuff.

I was an offline player for years but with MK11 I had so much fun with the towers that It came a point that I had almost everything unlock so I decided to try online and I'm doing pretty decent actually. So yeah the single playet stuff got me hook so much that I got to try online for the first time.

Main Street Fighter 6 is looking more like Street Fighter online, I wonder when Street Fight 6 come out with new DLC/Story pack they will do a epic trailers showing the story concept like with GTA Online or Final Fantasy 14 or Star Trek online. Capcom releasing a story trailer for Raise of Mad Gear story DLC would be epic, then the Next DLC would be Final Fight Story Trailer

  • @SirLightsOut99

I can see where you're coming from on the whole Street fighter 2 nostalgia thing, but on the other hand I don't think it's as much them trying to play on nostalgia as it is them just trying to get all those characters out of the way. We don't want another mortal Kombat 11 Mileena situation where people are getting harassed on Twitter because someone's favorite classic character hasn't made it into the game. And having all of those characters present and accounted for means that the way for more interesting DLC has been paved. They can't fall back on releasing Street fighter 2 protagonists, at least not for long. They're going to have to do something different, something more interesting to keep people playing the game. With a good 95% of the sf2 cast covered, new characters added could be characters from the Street fighter 3 series, or alpha, or EX. Maybe even some less obvious choices like final fight characters or characters from other obscure Capcom fighters.

I think another point in the necessity for offline content can be found in BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, the only other fighting game that I can think of that didn't release with a proper arcade mode. Yes, you had a story mode, but the only other offline mode was CPU matches that you set yourself. Unlike with Street Fighter 5, however, BBTag never got an arcade mode later down the line, and I think that is part of the reason why it failed like it did.

As a person that has hardly ever played online when I was a kid (poor internet accessibility where I was at), I was always hesitant when getting fighting games because if it didn’t have any single player offerings, then it was disheartening. Even now, I don’t like playing online because I too am HORRIBLE at fighting games. Now I feel so much better being excited for SF6.
In addition, I think the single player is WHY we have all of the World Warriors back. Because you are learning all of their moves throughout the story mode, you know people would ask, “Why aren’t they in the game as a full character?” And to that I have to say, yeah. That would make sense. That being said, I would have easily have wanted some replacements. Take out E. Honda and Dhalsim and put in Yun or Alex or Rashid. Have a variety of different Street Fighters that you could learn from in, that way SF6 would be a celebration of all of the previous games (and a good way to advertise any SF collections to see where they came from).

  • @lordshadow19

I think a big issue for a lot of people going online is that fighting games are one of the most difficult types of games to get good at. Not only are fighting games hard to get good at, but losing just hits harder than in other games and the way to get good is to lose a lot.
Other popular multi-player games like FPS games and DotA style games have team coop mechanics which let the player split the brunt of the loss, blame others (even if dishonestly), and sometimes get carried. Not only that, but most of these games also have participation rewards where win or lose, you'll unlock or progress toward unlocking rewards over time which can and will keep a lot of people playing even if you're losing a lot and eventually those players will improve and keep playing anyway. In a lot of fighting games, especially Capcom games, not only does this largely not exist, but you flat out get punished for losing via downranking which provides an incentive to ragequit or just ultimately avoid online altogether.
Fact is, I know a lot of people maintain an old school mentality where they believe getting better slowly over time is reward enough, but fighting games have a much smaller rate of online participation than most games and that's on top of having a much smaller player-base than other genres.

I agree with a good chunk of your thoughts regarding the game, but I am gonna have to disagree on the SF2 opinion. What I want to know is how come you have a problem with this roster retaining so many fighters from old games yet Guilty Gear (9/15 at launch + 2 added later), Tekken (5/20 + 8 addedlater) and, from the first two games alone, Mortal Kombat (14/24 + 1 added later) get a pass? Regarding MK, I honestly believe Mileena was never intended to be in the game but the pressure caved in so they decided to add her. I just you underestimate the value of nostalgia. Also having some safe options is not that bad

    • @eagle3802
      @eagle3802 2 года назад +2

Maybe it is just because I didn't like how safe the roster of KOF XV was, but I agree with Thorgi on this one. I know it all comes down to personal preferences, but Street Fighter has had several sequels which have introduced characters that are far more compelling than Honda, Blanka, and Dhalsim. Nevertheless, 18 characters is still a good number, especially considering how amazing the game looks. Kudos to Capcom for learning from their mistakes and providing us with this game.

I agree to an extent. I feel like some characters grew to encompass certain playstyles and power fantasies so well that it makes total sense to bring them back whenever possible. Dhalsim's fireball game and stretchy limbs are something unique to him and makes him stand out both visually and mechanically, same for Blanka with his ball, electricity and normals that sell how playing a lightning beast man would be like. Ryu is the base of the game and characters like Chun-Li, Ken, Guile and now Luke represent variations of that base.
However my favor stops at Zangief and Honda. I always felt like Honda's headbutt and single case use of slaps made him overlap too much with Blanka and his ball move, and as i said Blanka to me has a more unique style and fantasy to him. Unless they get really creative with Zangief he'll just be yet another case of the basic grappler package. Even in his own series there's been characters that encompass the same basic idea of what he does but in a distinctive way that goes beyond what's seen in SF2 instead of parallel to it.
