    Have never done a FBA before but I'm so glad I saw other sewers recommendations to watch your video. Seems that many of us carry our weight in the same places so this has been essential watching prior to cutting out my pattern and fabric. A million thanks.

    After watching you for awhile I'm finally understanding my fit issues. I have done a full bust adjustment but I usually redraw the armscye. After watching today I realize that I need that crazy arm hole to eliminate the fold. Eureka moment. Thanks for channel.

    OMG I am so glad I found your channel! We are built almost EXACTLY alike, height, measurements, how we carry extra weight (Yay) so your alterations and clear instructions are very much appreciated. I’ve taken time off from sewing because I got so frustrated with fitting issues I couldn’t figure out...it was really disheartening. I’m excited to start sewing again!

    This has been soooooo helpful! Beginner sewer here,,,late to the game (63 yrs. young🤪)…I have a vintage pattern very similar to this and it has come back in style. Oddly shaped but definitely need the FBA (bust 42”) Your demonstration and explanation has given me the confidence to do this! Thank you so much. Thank you Whitney! I love these tutorials... I think if I watch this video a couple of times, I can do it! I wanted to let you know I made the Seychelles top in a creamy-white linen. I shortened the top by 3” in length. Even though I am 5’6”, I think tops are more flattering if they hit right at my hipbones. (On me..)😇. Your dress really looks wonderful on you!

    Thanks for this. Glad to have found your channel as I also always need to narrow shoulders, length (as same height as you ) and an FBA! I have just made a toile of the style arc belle and need to do something as the front bodice seam where it meets the waist yoke is across my bust. Do you think this method will work for that pattern?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  Год назад

      I think this is pretty similar to the Belle. I haven't made the Belle, but from the line drawings, I would say they are similar!

    Beautiful dress! I'm not really sure I need a FBA because my measurements usually fit the size of the pattern. What I have found is in empire waisted patterns the sewing line is way too high. At my age, the chest has headed south. I made a empire waisted nightgown that had elastic along the seamline. Unfortunately the elastic hits me right in the middle of my bust. Thankfully it isn't tight. Would a FBA help with that or should I just add some length to the bottom of the bodice pattern piece?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  3 года назад +3

      I would just do a lengthen line at the apex and drop it the amount you need. You then need to remove that length below the seam so that your front and back side seams still match!

    • @TomKatStitchery

    • @TomKatStitchery

      Are the gathers in the center front seam? If so, you can just rotate the side dart to the center front and sew that as gathers instead of the created dart!

    I need help with a full bust adjustment on Newlook 6301. The pattern is a wrap dress, but it has a right and left side for the front of the dress. When I do the full bust adjustment the two front pieces do not go together. The pieces do not match, there is about 2 inches added to the sides that I can’t figure out how that happens or how to correct the problem. Please help . Maybe you can suggest another wrap dress pattern that maybe easier to adjust.

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  2 года назад +1

      Hmm. I'm not sure why the FBA isn't working properly on this pattern. However, the Cashmerette Appleton dress is a knit wrap dress that includes cup sizes (no FBA needed) and it is fabulous! If you're wanting a mock wrap dress similar to the New Look pattern, Love Notions has the Willow Wrap dress that also includes a full bust option so no FBA required on that one either!

    Hello, here I am again with a problem. I am making Simplicity 8875 and I have done the full bust adjustment. My problem is that I am 4’11 inches tall and I need to shorten the skirt but if I shorten the skirt at the waist line , will this shorten the back length from neck to waist. Do I also need to shorten the lower skirt too?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  Год назад

      Wanda! I've been trying to respond to your emails. Your inbox appears to be full so they haven't gone through, but I wanted you to know that I have been trying to answer your question. I would shorten at the lower body as well as the ruffle. I would just split the difference and do half in the lower body and the other half in the ruffle to keep the proportions correct!

  • @dianemorrall2687
    @dianemorrall2687 3 года назад

    So...just getting my head around your calculations for the FBA. You chose your size based on your high bust of 36". For size 14, the full bust is 39" so you had to do a FBA of 3" to cater for your full bust?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  3 года назад +1

      Yes. The suggested bust for the 14 is 36” (my high bust measurement) and the finished is 39”. I like at least 2” of ease at the bust and my full bust is around 40” so I needed to add 3” to get from 39” to 42”.

    • @TomKatStitchery
