  • This video continues our East Coastal path walk from Sunderland to Hartlepool. This latest leg was a beautiful walk but some steep Gills to climb. On this leg we start at Easington Colliery which town suffered the terrrible pit explosion in 1951 where 83 died and then the miners and the town put up their famous resistance to the state police forces who occupied Easington Colliery in the 1984-5 strike. What they had to bear is written into the history of the mining communities and people. It was so quiet to visit it today compared to when we went there during the strike! We continued our walk from where the colliery was to Horden which another mine we mention also from the struggle.
