If you live in a city that has a cruise port…you avoid the expense of traveling to a port. You can find a cruise for as little as 250.00 per person for a 5 days cruise…even cheaper for fewer days 3-4 days cruise.
Also, Carnival Cruise Line has a program that lets you book the cruise and pay on scheduled payments for a fee…I don’t think it’s that much. Just about anybody, that wants to go on a cruise can do it now. It’s a matter of planning in advance. Some cruise lines even offer a small deposit ($25. for example) to start and you can pay on it up to 2 months before cruise date.

My recomandation is different. When on land,different places ,search up local tourist office. Thats where you learn what you dont want to miss. Im from a known tourist location in Norway. We have "troll wall" , "troll road" , and one of the very high mountain also have air shuffled to top, to go on a fantastic "bridge", to watch the tops of other mouintains, feeling you can float in the air , ocean a nature is breathtaking. There are a long list of "once in the life experience's". And a lot of huge tourist ships are shuffeling tourist on land, but most people have no clue ,nobody told them, they just roam around in local shops, and miss the most . And thats sad. I know its better know, in especially the location i mention, because of locals putting up signs and offers. But i can imagine a lot of locations ,around the world,and one would miss out on the options one never will get again. So , "investigate" the options on every dock!
Two words...portable charger!! This is a lifeline even if you forget your charger your portable is your backup. Put a charging cord all over your luggage. Put one if each toiletry bag. Also, water shoes. Some beaches can be rocky and funky and water shows can protect your feet from glass and debris on the bottom.
I would say bring walking and hiking shoes since ports can be extremely rugged. Bring extra underwear since after a tour you change fir dinner. Medication since the ship doctor cant give you .meds. toothbrush and toiletries you urgently need as they are costly in port iron ship. Their shampoo and soap isn't great. Cash, singles, fives and tens twenties for tipping and island shopping. With only 4-9 hours in port you don't need worthless local change. Credit cards may have service fees and may not be accepted
