- Here's my ultimate tier list ranking of all of the romanceable NPC's in Stardew Valley!

(I apologize in advance if the audio quality is not up to par, I had some issues recording such a long portion of voiceover at one time & I'm still getting used to the technicalities of recording and editing audio. Hopefully it isn't toooo bad.)

Haley best girl. Character development is a good 😭 she slowly starts telling you you smell like dirt but she doesn’t mind it. then that likes animals. that she imagines working with them. then the photo with the cows is so cutesee
A lot of people talk about Haley and Shane being outright rude to you at first but to be fair...
1. Sebastian is also very standoffish and he is just as difficult to see as Leah and Elliot
2. Pierre just sees you as a walking check. Least favorite villager by far. At least Morris is funny in a cartoonish villain way.
3. You do have to walk on eggshells with Penny.
4. While Demetrius may be coded as on the spectrum, his relationship with Maru and scenes with Robin just turns me all the way off. Like I don’t enjoy getting my hearts up with him.
5. Clint... Clint. I'm sure it's his anxiety but he toes the line between asocial and creep.
6. Lewis no one cares if you date Marnie! Honestly good for you. Now stop embezzling town funds!
But on a more serious note I feel like if Sebby is in A tier then Haley can be moved up just on the strength of her growth alone. And I think Alex can move to B ONLY if you play as a male farmer, as his grandfather will become much more accepting of you and queer identifying people as a whole.

Ooofffffff Elliott the love of my life,, the reason I actually bought Stardew...
(Originally trialled it on the switch, immediately fell for Elliott and bought the game outright, and played until 2am to get to the point that Elliott loved me too.)
I like him because hes an artistic free spirit. He ticks a *lot* of my aesthetic boxes tbh (long haired boys are my *jam*) and just. You're a starving tortured artist, Elly? Me too! Lets brainstorm in the corner.
Even outside of dating him, he dedicates his novel to you because of the support youve given him in being able to complete his dream. As someone who struggles with getting my thoughts down, thats... so sweet?
Ive never struggled in getting to the point of dating him either? With the bat cave you can get pomegranates quite early, as well as just. "Hello heres some fresh vegetables. Heres a shell i picked up outside your house. Heres some trout soup thats sold a short distance from your shack. I learned to make cheese would you like some." Couple of gifts every week and you're dating by his birthday.
Also he seems a little? Oblivious and silly to me? Which tbh i just find charming. "Oh i seem to have a crab in my pocket" "im using seawater to water my rose why isnt it growing" "I didnt know if you could love another man" LOVE OF MY LIFE I GAVE YOU THE BOUQUET AND IVE BEEN SAYING I LOVE YOU SINCE DAY ONE. You can compliment him and hell think its just that, he wont realise that youre flirting. A little oblivious, like me, and i like that.
Also hed just be so doting about any insecurities you might have. You think you're stinky from farm work? "Its your natural musk!
Finally someone who gets it! I just don’t see how people can hate Elliot so severely. He’s so charming. He’s actually nice off the bat instead of bullying you like some other options. He loves deeply and just wants happiness. I wont go on since you summed it all up perfectly.
Like… F tier? Really?! Sweet Elliot trying his best, ranking below Haley and Shane who are initially verbally abusive?! I cannot fathom it. Nope. Nope. Nope.
@@Seal_pup I can understand people having different types, preferring the character development that goes into a character that initially doesn't like you. I.. guess I get that? Different horses for different courses, I guess, I'm not gonna shame anyone for liking tsunderes. I'll admit, Shane's always my best friend, because as someone with mental health problems I do like stories of people finding others who encourage them to better themselves.
But it's the fact for me that just. He's universally panned and everyone just kind of. "He's a snobby artist looking down his nose at you and it's a punishment to talk to him." Like... no? He's kind of silly and oblivious sometimes, a little preoccupied with his creative thoughts sometimes, but that doesn't mean he thinks that he's better than you?? I just think that a lot of people don't give Elliott his fair shake.
Also he's the only bachelor you can compete against in the winter ice fishing contest? And if you're married he literally says he doesn't expect to win against you bit he's going to compete anyway. For the sake of it. He's sweet.
Also, the relationship between him and Willy is super underrated. Willy 100% takes him under his wing, and that's super sweet. Just. Idk man. People sleep on Elliott. He's a really doting husband.
So glad I'm not the only one harboring Elliott love. All the cons others see, I see in a different light. Maybe that's what makes him my special lil soulmate ❤
My Only qualm is Elliott in the F tier. I’m not sure how good he is at expressing his love. He is a little self focused. But he’s also fine to let you run about your farm, and likes to see how it’s coming along. He is very different from the farmer. But he works well with them.
He goes to the beach to reminisce and listen to the waves. He writes or wanders the house. He is distant, but he’s aware he’s distant. He asks, “will you be alright without my help?” And suggests in his letter to take food to the mines because they are dangerous. He left crab cakes in the fridge for me for food while he was gone. His favorite food. He left. For us. Because it’s a good food (stat wise.) so, selfish as he seems, he also makes it clear he loves the farmer. He wants them to be safe and happy just as he is. He… trusts you.
I think he lives with a front on, a protective front of fearless confidence and flourish. But I think deep down, he fears rejection, from people he is close to, just like what he received in the past. But as a writer myself, I deeply achingly empathize with his arc. Feeling weird as people beg for an autograph, going on book tours, getting fan mail… yet you know you’re really just a normal person. It’s this pedestal of fame, people see you as some sort of hero. But you’re just you.
Thats scary. And you gotta learn how to still be normal and leave your mask of perfection Off. it’s hard to forget what everyone thinks of you and just press ahead. Even when all feedback is positive, it’s scary. You really need one person who genuinely believes in you and loves you. One person who believes in you but sees you first and foremost as a “normal” person. You can trust them. It’s a slow, dry death without that person. 💔I know what it’s like to write alone. It all but kill’s you.

Honestly, I love Shane. hear me out: not because i want to “fix him,” just cuz i can relate to his struggles. I wished someone was there for me when i was struggling (despite how bitchy i was). so idk i guess my approach to marrying or dating him is i don’t care if he does or doesn’t change. i just wanna be there for him no matter what he’s going through🤗
also he’s totally the type to dominate and be a freak in the sheets🤭

I married him pre-1.6 and loved it. Married him post-1.6 and he honestly seems less lovey even at 14 hearts 😢 to the point I decided to divorce 😭 actually came to this video to vet a new partner
I think that Alex and Haylee should fittingly be on the same tier.
They both come off as rude and mean but get better as you get to know them.
And while it doesn't necessarily justify what he says Alex does have an explanation for why he is always so proud and arrogant and how he cares so much sbout what people think of him.
He always needs to prove his worth in an attempt to show that he is better than ehat his father always made him out to be.
In comparison while Haley does have a nice arc still comes off as really rude at the start without having really a reason to do so ? Like she is just awfully rude for no reason other thsn she doesn't rrally like Pelican town and wants to leave at the start. I like her development just like alex's when you date him as a guy but I don' know shr just calls you ugly and disgusting by attempting to talking to her.
She also just flat out insults you if she doesn't like/hate a gift you give her
Imo that makes her less redeemable.
Either way they are comparable and should be ranked the same imo but I know that Haley is the community's Baby so this might come off as controversial.

I totally agree. I honestly feel like Alex's storyline was a lot more well thought out than Haley and even a lot of the other marriage candidates because his progression from being a stand-offish, kinda jerk, to an actually emotionally venerable and kind person felt very natural. When I played SDV for the first time I wasn't really interested in romancing any character cause non of them were very appealing to me in the beginning, so the heart cutscenes were always very spread out in my play through for all marriage candidates. The only one that I found really being able to notice a consistent change in behavior and substantial character development was Alex, and each heart event was able to highlight this shift in personality. Alex was like the only one I ended up feeling attached to because his struggles were heartbreaking and honestly relatable and human. He literally was my least favorite character because of his attitude and comments but then he grew into my favorite.
I like Harvey a lot. Because his maturity and responsibility is what I want to be. Plus he has nerdy interests he really enjoys that I relate to (albeit my interests are very different from his). And as someone going into a scientific field that overlaps a lot with medicine (microbiology) I really enjoy his role in the village.
I also like Maru's scientific interest, but its less adjacent to my preferred field of science. Plus I'm more attacted to men than women. Sorry Maru.

Krobus being the secret S tier is a great turn.
Really enjoyed the way you outlined your thought process, one thing on Alex though.
He is (as far as I know) the only character to directly mention his initial struggles over having feelings for another male farmer but actually develops over time and I find that adds a whole other layer to his personality. This is especially true when marrying him (as a guy) causes Geroge to literally say he originally thought it was "unnatural".
Obviously limited only to male farmers but an interesting character act that feels quite unique.
It honestly gave me the vibe that Alex was meant to marry the male character, it just feels like he isn’t as interested in the girl character - which I like! I believe that Alex is the gay guy who was never allowed to explore that part of himself (obviously, because George) and so feels obligated be a dude’s dude, so when romancing him as a guy, you see more authentic character development ❤
@orgeuillealkali that's really interesting, it definitely does feel like his storyline with the male character is much more fleshed out and impactful

Opinions are subjective, and my subjective opinion is that all you said about Krobus is objectively true and everyone who disagrees is in denial because they can't fathom Krobus' flawlessness.

SHANE NEEDS A REAL REWORK, he could have been our best boy but they dont write him to actually commit to his arc. He could be our best boy but we need them to rewrite his post marriage dialog and even maybe his 14 heart even where you HAVE to accuse him of drinking.
I actually think his arc and dialogue (pre and post marriage) is very accurate to a depressed recovering alcoholic. Marriage won't fix those things, unfortunately. I think the 14 heart event is supposed to kind of suggest a future in which he's slowly finding outlets of joy outside from alcohol, which is a struggle by itself when one deals with depression, let alone alcohol addiction. He deserves all the love and support.
Just not from me bc he doesn't seem to give enough kisses during marriage after the 1.6 update 😂 I live for the cute interactions

So even though Sebastian is my absolute favourite and I love him to the moon and back I do have to agree that Krobus totally deserves the S(ewer) tier! He just feels like such a nice companion to have and the way he helps around is also a great perk. And btw I love your tierlist and the overall aesthetic, you did such a great job with that!
I respect the places everyone is in this tier list. Pretty much the same thing I had in my head. My girl Leah in A Tier but I’m totally fine with Krobus in the higher tier lol. Great video!

Elliot becoming more dependant on you when you marry him is something I never noticed but makes so much sense when you realize that his only friends were Leah and Willy, and Willy is likely only because he lives on the beach too. The farm is more reclusive than his beach cabin. Elliot just needs more friends and going to the farm doesn't help that at all.
As a guy marrying Alex feels like a completely different experience compared to what I've heard from female players so I can get his ranking. Though personally for me he's higher
Maru's only flaw is her father. Queen Maru might seem stagnant but she has her life together unlike most of the people running around here. Just wish there was more thought put into her post marriage because- Yeah- She doesn't seem to do a lot of tinkering or make good on her automation idea anymore.
And I'm glad you weren't too harsh on Shane because he isn't "fixable" because I see a lot of that in the community (UnsurpassableZ didn't help before he left, Jesus) so knowing that despite his flaws he's not the lowest makes me happy

That's the struggle with alcoholism though. They call it a disease for a reason. Love and marriage won't fix it. It takes mental health treatment and sometimes actual medical treatment (there's medication to help correct the addiction - I have family members who had to take it).
Talking about Shane so often in this video comment thread just made me realize he's the closest to a "disabled" character we get outside of George. It would be cool af if ConcernedApe added characters that represent more minorities of every variety

I think that not everything is bad with Shane. I think that the true story of him is in heart events and his room is just a reminder of his past. I do get a feeling that he is not really regresing, because changing is hard and in his situation, I think, he suffered too much to be redeemed in a short time
You should do this with the Stardew Valley expanded and ridgeside village marriage candidates

I personally like women, and the only male character that piques my interest is Harvey.)

I wish Shane had better character growth. He started to get better then crashed and burned. I married him in my last play through, I was disappointed in him. I wish my chicken man was a better.
