3 years later . Last year got the heater core and tried to unbend from the core it self and the aluminum cracked . Couple hours ago ordered new one and will do the way you did it . Good for you you didn't unbend the core from the tubes.
On an original core those crimp connections have a very small clamp. I have been able to remove them and remove the core for a more intense cleaning. The cleaning lasts a couple years until the silt plugs it up again. Your idea is GREAT. I thought about this but worried about it leaking-yours held!
I did the same job.You need to remove the air bag from under the cover. Moving the air bag bracket is the second hardest part of the job. Moving it back in place the hardest.
We appreciate the update. Always important that we can rely on a fix that will last, but we never hear about it. How about another update in 1 year's time? Thank you again. :)
I had no heat in my truck but I was able to find the two lines that went to the heater core in the engine bay used the garden hose and just flushed it putting it through each of the hose in and out and that worked like a charm in my work truck I'm about to try my wife's Dodge journey
I did this exact repair a week ago on my 2010 journey. No way was a paying over 1k to have it done. The only issue I had was cutting the lines (not much space to work) but once that is done, the rest is pretty easy. It probably took 60 minutes at most to swap out the core plus drain and flush the coolant system.
Hi, I’m having the same issue with a 2010 journey that I just bought. Coolant temperature seems to be good, actuator doors are working, looks like I’ll have to do the same heater core replacement that you did. My question is, did you have to bleed the cooling system after doing this repair? Would hate to use this short cut and overheat and damage the engine. Thanks
We put 3 or 4 heater cores in it would plug up on right side in just a week or so. Gave that 09 to my son he sold it for junk price $700 because the water pump and PTU was starting to leak. It only had about 125k miles

Thank you my friend - this is exactly what I am going to attempt on my wife's Journey - same issue - no heat on the passenger side.
a trick: you can watch movies at flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.

The only thing that would have made this video immaculate 100/100 is if you showed us where the coolant bleed air valve is on this video. Thanks

I will be tackling this problem in the summer of 2022. Would it be possible to sent me step by step instructions, I'm will to pay if you can.
Buy a manual for your specific car. Should give you step by step instructions for every thing you could replace
My new core never came with new pipes so un crimping may be in my future.
