Rimworld doesn't have to be that intense. If you want a relaxing game with just a few moments where someone might attack, you can have that too. It's been a few years but I might have to play it again. It's fun.
If you want, you can install the mod "Save our ship 2" and traverse the stars. Ship battles and all. Mods make the game exponentially better.

I actually like rimworld because you can either be an evil bastard like this or you can be a decent colony. To be honest it's a fairly simple game once you get the hang of it.
Its difficult to be decent colony on highest possible difficulty with Randy. This game makes you do what you must.
yea rimworld is one of those games that is hard to get into but once you get a hang of the ui, how to do what, then the ball will just roll super smoothly, it's simple enough to work with, just needs a cleaner ui and a tutorial lol
Wait.... decent colony? Isn't a proper colony just what he said? I mean sure he lacked cannibals but we cannot have perfect colonists all the time. And if you are one of those "moralists" i hear about then i invite you to sit on a human leather sofa, after experiencing such comfort you will see the light (of psychopathy) soon enough.
But if you had the option to cover everything in the leather of your fellow men... would you not?

This game was initially released on Kickstarter as early access in 2013, it has been in development for 7 years, mostly by one dude, Tynan Sylvester. It's completed, but occasionally it gets updated. The best part about this game is the modding community, at this moment there are 16464 mods on the steam workshop, old and new. I have played over 700 hours, one of the cheapest games for the amount of fun I've had. I just played it 3 hours ago xD

Prison labor mod is a must have for Rimworld, after the prisoners pay the price of one kidney and one lung for attacking you have them do forced labor and if they get rowdy simply shoot them, butcher them and feed their meat to the other prisoners through a nutrient paste dispenser
I recommend Sseth’s review of Deus Ex, next. It’s a game that has never been more relevant, and will just continue to get more relevant, with each passing day.

Rimworld is my all-time favorite game. Deep and endless amounts of replayability. It's games like this that make it worth being a pc gamer.

Bout 5000 or so hours into rimworld, where has my life gone.
I absolutely love this game, it's one of my favorites of all time
I lost it at "oh so you can do good ?" Yes you can indeed do good.
The game has gotten some DLC since then which introduces psychic powers and a nobility system. So yea, not only can you start an organ harvesting operation but you can then buy your way into the monarchical good books with it.
I started off with a friendly trader colony, growing and selling various plants. -But then the Fire Nation attacked- But then due to several unforeseen events and maybe some food shortage one of my colonists went psycho and burned everything down.
Also, it's heavily moddable. There are thousands of mods.
I have a legitimate addiction to this game. 600 hours on steam and counting.
I remember all my previous colonies were exactly like Sseth's. Now I'm trying to make a peacekeeping colony striving to unite the rimworld 😂
I love this game. I definitely spent way too much time playing it.
The mods were awesome. Shame that a lot of the great ones I love are currently outdated from the Royalty updates :(

Rimworld is very much a "what you make of it" kind of game. If you want an easy relax builder game it can be that, if you want rage inducing keyboard smashing action, it can do that too (really well).
Ah yes daddy sseth slowly creeping onto other channels. Rimworld is a calming game if you take the peaceful route but for me i like the idea of near zombie land level of insane so i got with randy

tfhis is the kind of game that if you get angry at it now, continue playing and messing around, and eventually, you will start figuring stuff out and realising where you did wrong, and how to improve.
The mods for this game are amazing. Play Star Ship Troopers, play HALO, play LOTR, Play Star Wars, Play COD: Modern Warfare. Or play all of them at once.
As of now Rimworld is at 1.5 with four DLC’s each of which expand upon the gameplay.
Royalty: Adds a powerful faction called the Empire, full of psychics which you can appeal to or fight against, the focus of the DLC is the former allowing your colonists to gain royal titles along with their own psychic abilities and call ins to request everything from food and raw materials to military aid.
Ideology: In base Rimworld players had to be a bit, picky about who they recruited, as certain personality traits were undesired if you were pursuing a certain ‘lifestyle’ for your cana- Colonists. The Ideology expansion allows you to have all your colonists and even newcomers believe in a desired way, preventing mental breaks from one colonist not being a fan of the dietary choices of a colony or being for or against body modifications. You can assign roles to your colonists of this ideoligion to grant them extra abilities. It does add additional way to beat the game but I haven’t really looked into the Archo-Nexus ending to describe it well.
Biotech: in base rimworld your colony could only grow through recruitment, was composed of your regular ole human, and you were at the mercy of the late game enemy, Mechanoids. With this expansion it changes all that. Your colonists can have kids and those kids can inherit the genetics of their parents as all Rimworld pawns can vary genetically with a variety of premade and custom ‘xenotypes’ suited for different roles or enviroments including scifi Vampires. Lastly it adds the ability to create and command your own army of mechanoids.
Lastly you have Anomoly, the latest DLC and gets a bit into some eldritch horror mixed with some SCP. Through meddling with artifacts one really shouldn’t you provoke entities beyond the veil to start harassing the world. Capture, contain, and study these entities to unlock new technologies and learn more about the void and the inhabitants it plagues upon your world.
One afternoon 2 weeks ago, I decided to buy and play Rimworld on a whim. 20 hours later, when morning light began shining through my window, I was still playing it.

I have played 5000h of this game since its first publication... it is unending
I have 700 hours in rimworld and the best thing is the liberty of how you can play, especially with all the mods: medieval colony with magic, drug empire, a colony with jedis fully equipped with lightsabers and bionic penises. It has one of the nicest community and modders are doing an amazing job of creating a mod for pretty much everything you can think of. And just like dwarf fortress it creates amazing stories, I just spend my entire time creating my friends in this game, with intricate backstories and then narrating them what happens in the game.

i played a calm game where i just farmed boomalopes (cattle that can be milked for fuel/gasoline) so had a very big herd of them.
milked and took care of them all.
they all slept on the open field on the backend of my base.
when suddenly. *lightningstorm*
a single lightning bolt slammed into the herd as they were all nuzzled up against each other.
The one boomAlope that took the bolt exploded and all the others caught fire. they all ran around in a panic.

it was an utter firestorm, panicked boomalopes exploding in succession as my base was reduced to cinders.
Rimworld is really fun and no were near as complicated as it looks, theres alot of depth to it but its way easier to get into than one would think
if you want to know more about stuff you didnt know, i could recommend a few reviewers like
Accursed Farms, (aka Ross Scott) who is doing reviews on old and obscure games no one talks about (at least most of them are like that)
Mandalore Gaming, who can just be considered "Sseth on his meds" (they are friends so this joke kinda works)
Civvie11 for classic old shooter reviews (like doom and stuff)

Tales from the crypt were part of my childhood, and I was born in 2005... No shit I'm so fucked up mentally.
Rimworld is a bit difficult to figure out at first because you have limited control over your colonists but thats just the way it is. First playthroughs are terrible at best and leave you with unforgettable stories but thats the beauty of it. Besides there many different difficulty settings to accomodate both new players and hardcore ones. It works.
rimworld is addictive but factorio is straight up crack like, when end a session and you realise its 1am and you got to go to bed you will be saying to your self "The factory must grow. The factory must grow."
Look into factorio, it's what lead me to this game, and it has taken over 200 hours of my life.
I love rimworld, i once dreamed as a child about a future in which we all could live in peace, today im a man dedicated to my craft.......collecting eyeballs, rimworld made into a monster.
Rinworld actually has a low bar of entry and a friendly Ui and graphics to show everything important. After you know the basics, the world is yours. Do give it a shot sometime as new updates are making the game even more fun.
everything is alright, everything works. Your little colonists at least seem competent. You are zhriving, amassing good wealth, you successfully defeated few raids....
but...
then they send a mechanoid cluster... right at your doorstep and start an infestation inside your mine.... which .. is actually your home. I love this game. 80% of the time its nice and calming micromanagement... the rest is screaming at the monitor at how a level 16 shooter can miss every single shot...
while level 5 toddler can hit almost everything

Got about six thousand hours total and yeah.. it can suck away those hours. Mods on top of that turn it into a completely different game.
I'd recommend you watch his GodHand review next. It's just so nuts and absurd that I can't help to love it. Also the madlad did the most "man of culture" thing at the end of that video! but I wont spoil what it is.

it's actually a really slow game and is suprisingly easy with and without mods if you know what you're doing.
I have one game I've played over 2,500 hours, another over 1,000, and a third 500. Wanna know the best part? That last one is a singleplayer game.

I know this is a 6 month old video, but about that hours and hours comment... this game has 4000 hours logged for me on Steam. I've played the shit out of this game over the years as it went from early access to release.

Watched this after the Endless Space 2 video. Both games sure have quite some depth (esp. ES2) but ES2 comes with a nice tutorial. (Dunno how it is with Rimworld. Haven't played it for years.)
Even after hours of playing I still discovered new mechanics etc. but I never felt like I've missed something major which needs me to restart or ruined m< current play.
Can highly recommend those two!

I was a lone farmer with 2 pigs and about uhhhhhhh maybe 20 or more chickens I was just living life and a npc came with a knife while I had a charge rifle and he hid behind my female pig that was pregnant and my character tried to end that guy’s life but shot my pig in the spine it lived he ended up ending the guy that was in summer came when winter came all my chickens got so hungry they kept dying but baby chickens kept being born then dying I had to end all my animals so they didn’t die from not eating and so my character could eat😢

Taking live prisoners is a very profitable endeavor not only can you take half their organs to either use yourself or sell to roving traders, doing so will raise your colonists medical skill. Before you remove the heart or liver, remember to amputate every limb for those extra skill points, don't bother with using medicine, the poor bastard you're working on isn't expected to live long, save the good shit for your own people. After all the limbs are removed and the organs harvested, you will be left with a dead body, but you're not done yet. Take your dead body over to the butcher, cook the human meat into tomorrows rations and the skin can be used to make a nice sleeping bag or pair of pants.
