- This lift will work with any router that has a 3.5 inch body but I use this one and I love it: amzn.to/49QfwWo
Here is the template I used to cut out the housing. You should probably verify that the print out scales correctly and that the radius matches your router-body.

I believe that this is the best most doable Router Lift unit that I have seen as of yet! Iv'e seen a lot of them! No Welding required! Just simple tools and a Drill Press! Great Design! Seems that the success of this Lift is based on 2 factors! 1. Quality wood! (Plywood) and 2. Fantastic Design! ..Bingo! You have a new Subscriber!
Wow! There's a ton of DIY lifts on youtube. Most are pretty nice, with all kinds of extra features, but this right here is easily the least intimidating in cost, required tools, and skill level. Just brilliant.
Nice design. Others I've seen rely on the use of a plunge router. This is a great design for a fixed router (like mine). One modification I may make to your design is to delete the double-nut connection at the bottom of the lift screw. In its place I plan a single nut and then cross drill the nut & the lift screw and hold the nut in place with a roll pin. Your inclusion of the template is most appreciated. Thank you!
Oh yeah, liked & subscribed!
Well done AK. Beats $300 +, and works well for the amateurs. Thanks for posting.
This is the most straight forward design I’ve seen. Love it !
Simplest version of a router lift I have seen....thank you for putting this on youtube!
I've watched so many videos on this subject, always overcomplicated, this just summed up my thinking and it's really not difficult or complicated to build a router lift. I'm definitely building something along these lines, thank you!
One of the absolute best home-made router lifts. Also one of the best videos showing the build. A special thumbs up for no annoying music. Also subscribed!!!
That moment that the first screw sucks the router mount to the table, so satisfying.
Enjoyable video😎
Seen many other videos on router lift. This is the best one. Thank you for this idea sir
Damned good vid. A simple design, well narrated and constructed. That's the one I'm gonna make for my router table.
You just got yourself another subscription. Thanks for sharing a great job.
Clive Bashford a
agreed
One of the easiest, straight forward builds. Just my kind. Thanks.
One of the easiest, solid, router lifts I've seen. I'm going to make me one too
Really cool! Great stuff! Love the drill lift mechanism. Love the dogs at the beginning of the video.
Awesome man. That has to be the simplest/most useful lift I've come across yet. Well done!
you're right.. out of 20 this is the one...simple and efective and more important with access from the top. gotta love that
You wear so much plaid fleece we might have to make you an honourary Canadian... :)
Love this, will be stealing. Thanks!
Excellent video. excellent production value. Great idea. The one suggestion I would make though, is to show the finished product at the beginning of the video so people know what you're actually working towards. Otherwise it looks like somebody cutting up wood. Would be nice to have a better look at the finished product.
Brilliant, very simple and easy to build. Easy to operate
Nice and simple design. Thanks - I would like to copy pretty much exactly as you have made it. Perhaps add some dust extraction and enclose the box(with extraction also). Routing is a messy business!! Cheers from Sunny Coast in Queensland... Australia, where the weather is always nice!!
I'm thinking about making another video with an update and a new build correcting some minor issues.
This is a great video. I am about half way done with my own router lift. This will make a great difference on my routing tasks, Thanks!
I enjoyed you video so much you don't blab blab blab like some guys and your a great woodworker. Keep up the good work
Just what the doctor ordered. Thank you!
Best Router Lift so far. And your productions are great.
brilliant idea and fast as well.best thing about this it's not complicated or expensive. well done
Good idea on the runner. Most other builds require some precision work. This looks so simple.
Very nice video! I really like this design. I'm building a new table saw cart for my jobsite saw (hobby shop...no space), and have looked at several options to integrate a router lift. I really like this design...simple and effective, while maintaining a small footprint. My new cart will have an integrated plenum for dust collection (I'm planning to have my table saw, planer, and router all in one cart), and I think I can easily adapt this design to connect it to the dust collection.
Nice design . I think I’ll give this a try.
same here
Thanks.... this is genius! I built this and installed in my tablesaw wing today... it's really great! TY TY TY
Simplicity at its best. I love it. Well done.
This is the simplest, yet most effective router lift I've seen, Ari - no frills or furbelows. I note (as with many of this type of build, you've stripped out the motor from your DeWalt router frame - certainly convenient. Out of interest, what diameter bolts have you employed for the clamp - 8mm ? The carriage too, is uber simple. I've subscribed on the strength of this video, alone.
Finally (& perhaps it's me, but your intonation is that of Tom Hanks - apologies, perhaps you get that a lot - but it made me smile :D ). Enjoy the remainder of your week !!
Working on my version of this lift. This is simpler than the Steve Ramsey one from a Woodsmith design. My router is the big 3 1/2 horse from porter cable and the body is ~ 4 and 3/16th's diameter - - - - for those who have the big porter cable beast! So had to make a few changes for that size. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks Ari, for sharing your ideas, the design of yours is something I can get my head around! I have the time to play! This well fit my budget as well! I will let you know how do ! Thanks again for sharing Regards BobLee
Nice simple lift, great job! That's the one for me with a few mods.
The best one I have seen so far
Two critiques- no lock on the ht. means whatever play is in your tracks will plague you when making heavy cuts where a few thou is a big deal. Second it looks like the wt of the router is pushing against the T nut. Moving that to the bottom would solve that.
Excellent idea, thanks for sharing.
great vid. excellent design and execution.. may make one.. but really all i need is a holder.. i got and old super powerful bosch 90300M 3.5 hp.. 24k revos.. need to set it up for a half dovetail joint..single use station. no further movement.. original holder base with handles extremely hard to find..
Awesome router lift
Very good job, thumbs up. Greetings from Germany
Nicely done Ari! You now have another new subscriber................. :)
Das ist wirklich perfekt gebaut. Super! Dafür einen Daumen hoch (Thumbs up)
Simple and elegant solution. Well done!!
Best and easiest homemade Router Lift on youtube
Very good design, just in case something gets stuck in the track, how can be avoided it ?
Simple and best idea
Great bro
Excellent! Simple and practical. I’m going to make this as well.
Thank you
Zenith Very nice! It would be helpful if you started by showing the finished unit.
Great design, best that I have seen !
Have you had problems with dewalt and dust in motor on a table setup?
Mine was having issues, opened it up and it was packed full of dust. And I use 2 way dust collection on my table that I made. My bosch hasn't had same issue.
I sent Dw618 to get full serviced, and once it gets back, I'm putting a filter of some type around it. Perhaps a system that pulls in air from elsewhere, still undecided. Either way, it didnt seem well suited to be below a table inverted like that.
very easy and not messy at all for the intended work. Great work and thanks for sharing! you don't secure the lift bolt to bottom plate with a counter nut on other side?
Superb video & very well presented, with simple clear instructions.
I'd love to copy this idea, but my problem is, that my router has handles connected, with the power trigger attached to one of them. So, I wondered if you had an alternative suggestion about how I might get around that for the clamping meccanism?
Thank you for publishing this & again super job.
Kind regards,
Glyn (UK)
Glynn, I would zip tie the power trigger in the on position and then use a power strip or wire in a switch to turn the router on or off. Peace.
Awesome video thanks for sharing this great info and explaining it so well!!
Genau was ich gerade suche. Sehr einfacher Aufbau.👍👍👍
Super simple - great job
Good design, every other lift out there takes a team of engineers to build.
You're right, they makes it seems they are genius.
Cool invention bro, I’m a believer I’ve subbed
Looks like a simple and solid design. How has it held up over time and does humidity effect how performs?
Great job..I will be making this for my table.
Simple and easy I lime it ill, give it ago iam first time user of a router. Thanks
very good, very nice, very simple! good job!
Nice and simple. Great job!
great job and design!
Great job! Two thumbs up 👍👍
Super good and simpele, do You have The Building plans of it For me?
Do you have plans for this by chance? Nice work, by the way.
Very good solution... Big hug from Brasil Said Choucair
This looks awesome. I do have one question: It seems like you connected a coupling nut to the end of some thread rod. How did you lock it in place? Thanks again for the awesome video.
He locked two nuts together onto the rod, and had them bearing on a washer sitting on the base piece, and held in place by a small protuding piece of the threaded rod, which extended into the hole he drilled into the base piece. Maybe over time that hole will enlarge from lateral deflections. You could easily add a bushing or use a bearing.
Hi love the idea. What kind of bolt is used for actually raising the router? It has a long head and I am trying to look it up but not having any luck. Thanks
It's actually a coupling nut that's epoxied onto the end of a threaded rod. It was lying around my shop from a previous router lift.
That’s neatly done
What about heat buildup? Am concerned that much wood surrounding the router body will trap significant heat during periods of heavy use.
Great video , where can I get the plans from to build this ?
Excellent lift. Is this your design or did you buy plans for it?
Great router lift.... Do you have plans available?
Just found this channel. You sound exactly like Frank Howarth, I had to do a double take.
Great video easy to follow
Definitely the best DIY router lift I've seen so far. What size threaded rod did you use for the lifting mechanism? I was going to go 3/8-16 so I would know that every turn is 1/16" ? But would 3/8" be enough? I dont see it bending at all, but maybe I'm wrong?
(I'm new to this. Only have use of right side of my body after 8 years bound to a bed, and woodworking will be my rehab-hobby in the hope I can get more function to my right hand.)
Thanks for the video btw. Sub'd and liked!
A very good job, I like it, the only thing I would do differently is when you cut out the square hole for the router plate, why do people always drill four holes all you need are two, diagonally opposite, I see this on all videos, they have the brains to invent the machine, but fall over on the execution, I will now go away and put my tin hat on
I've added a link in the description to a printable pdf of the template I used.
Sorry for not having more detailed plans, but I hope this helps anyone trying to build it.
Best one yet. Going to use this one for the router table I will build> thanks for sharing
Thanks
Thanks for sharing!!! Awesome. Do you have plans posted somewhere? Thanks again!
Thung Rac i
By the way, Ari, those clamps you use in the first glue up (four, three quarter inch plywood) ? They've really thick clamping pads on them - any possibility that you could let me know the brand - we have nothing that substantial in the UK - but I'd happily purchase from the States - it would be grately appreciated, thank you !! :D
Once the router is mounted to the table, did you rout a shelf for your plate? Also, locating the lift rod seems... challenging.
hello very good video, a question: that way you do not get sawdust inside the machine?
nicely done!!
I just glued up the mounting bloke do you have a cutting list for the rest of the lift pls.
The socket. :) That's what fits onto a ratcheting wrench.
What about when you wanna change the bit!?
good work. the only problem is going to be the t-nut
WV591 Yup - one of these days the running router is going to disappear below the table and maybe even wind up on the floor.
Great solution mate! Thanks
A nice video and great concept, I've subscribed to your channel too
great build, did you ever post the plans? would love to build my own
Yours is a simple plan. Not as complicated as others I've seen. Where did you get the plans for this or did you make them?
Great! Thanks for sharing this idea
Hi there brilliant router lift please can you sent me the template I keep trying the link but doesn’t work liked & subbed 👍🏼
it should be fixed now. sorry
Do you sale the plans for this jig?
Thanks
Yup this is what I will do! Thanks
PLANS? I have a plan, I plan to make myself one of these router lifts. That's the plan anywho.
Greg Joyner: They need plans?? Imagine how lame someone has to be that they would need a set of plans to build one of these. Really makes you shake your head wondering how so many people can be so untalented.
I really enjoyed your video and would love to make this specific type of router lift. Do you have any plans available?
Sorry but I didn't really make a full set of plans and I didn't keep the parts I did make. I hope you can figure most of it out from the video
Just one question, how do you lock it once you get it where you want it?
This one has enough friction in the tracks to hold it with no additional lock if you tighten the adjustment screws right. The down side is that raising the lift takes a little torque.
Please add locking mechanism
great video! where in hudson valley are you? im in Orange county? Do you have the template avail? would love to do a joint video if interested
