It actually pre-loads the bearing and prevents over load on the bearing by limiting linear travel on the axle stubb as the jam nut is torqued. Its basically bottomed out to a pre-determined point that preloads the bearings.

I just graduated welding school I can’t wait to get a job in the car industry I want to work for a company like that one. It would be a dream come true to build off-road toys and to own one myself one day! You2 guys and the hole shreddy family are badass and go hard in the pant 🤙.
