    I did not know Carrol as an actor other than when he acted in "All In The Family" and "Heat Of The Night" until I saw an episode of "Time Tunnel" where he played both an English general from the 1960s and an English general from the War Of 1812. The two generals in that episode were related to each other. That episode of "Time Tunnel" was one of its best.

      By ‘76, he WAS Archie Bunker in a way. That character belonged to him. It was fascinating and very interesting to hear him talk about improvisation during rehearsals. Once the actors got comfortable with their characters, I’m sure they added tons of their own lines and zingers, especially Carroll!

      And yet every thing about "conservation" that "Archie" said was just as true as what Carrol said in this interview. We have to build wooden outhouses AND we have to conserve resources. "Liberalism" today is synonymous with mental retardation. Archie was nearly always right and meathead wrong.

    • @matsumoku1
      @matsumoku1 3 года назад +1

      @@dolphingurls8204 I agree with you, I think she did not like making that voice. I sort of recall that she might have said that in a different interview. Also, people always think of Arc as the one being made to look bad. But after all these years it's not Archie that looked bad at all., it's the Edith character. Go figure that a so called "liberal" writer would end up making Archie look good and a female look bad--shades of leftist sexism and projection. You look at people today, what they say about Archie is that he was right and meathead was wrong. But it wasn't an archie type character that was oppressive to women, it was "liberal" projection onto conservatives. Just like today, nothing changed.

Yes the shows' premises were very different on the surface, but ultimately they both were complex characters examining the deepest darkest parts of modern American society via virtuoso actors and writing. And to take it one more level, Archie doesn't exist without Ralph Kramden. Absolute geniuses, and credit to Mr. Norman Lear, who unbelievably is still with us.

      Because it was comedy and not to be taken to seriously. I liked the Jefferson's because it was funny and George Jefferson on All in the Family. He disliked whites but it was all in good fun. The show brought the stereotypes to light and then made fun of them.

    I've been rewatching All in the Family every night, and I had really forgotten how well he played such an unlikeable character. But, he also had his moments of surrender, which made viewers realize he wasn't ALL horrible. He was such a versatile actor, but man, he could REALLY get under your skin as Archie - especially in today's society. I found myself yelling at the screen whenever Archie pissed me off, which was almost every episode. 😂

      Wasn't "All in the Family" based on a British sitcom? How similar were they? (I think that it was called "Man About the House")

    You can immediately tell by watching either or by listening ok? Is it Carroll O Connor talking or Archie Bunker. By the way he changed his Voice tune

    Truly brilliant man and actor..a true intellectual
    Couldn't be any more "different" than Archie.
    Losing his son...Hugh...destroyed him...very sad.
