@@gingerpaul5702 No, he was called Jack Napier before being reborn as Joker. In the Nolan films Bruce Wayne's parents were killed by a gangster runner called Joe Chill. I've personally always liked the symmetry of the Joker being responsible for Batman - and Batman being responsible for Napier's transformation.

I was 4 when Batman 1989 was rolled out.....this will always be Batman’s theme for me. To this day just hearing this gives me chills, I feel unstoppable when I listen to this.

I like how everyone on stage can't help but smile when they start playing the joker theme. Me too, I don't know what it is, it just makes you smile.
The smile on the artists face on stage where a result to an very short applause by people who thought the music was over.
In the televison-broadcast the sound was "cleaned from applause at the wrong moment".
The further more ongoing smile is related to play an waltz. Vienna is very popular in the world for creating so much waltz in the past. So the orchestra played a lot of waltz around the week - and they have a apecial relationship to that too.
But nevertheless the orchestra visible has joy to play the music at all - even / because as a waltz is somewhere hidden there.
Shows what a genius Elfman is. The Joker is supposed to make you smile while terrifying you :)
@@ulrichkrause1579I saw batman in concert yesterday. Same thing happened, applause was not the cause of it. Once the orchestra starting playing this, they all started smiling. It's just such a fun tune.
Nothing will beat this Batman theme. There have been 4 live action scores and nothing even compares to this one.

WOW! This took me back to sitting in a theatre in Denver, Colorado in 1989. When that theme came up and hit the audience full on, we all stood and applauded! THIS was the Batman we'd been waiting for all our lives!
Ah, so glad The Waltz of Death is in this as well as The Penguin's Theme/Birth of a Penguin/Death of The Penguin. It wouldn't be a Burton Batman Melody without those great tracks

This Batman score is as iconic as Williams, Superman . Never again a superheroe film has a soundtrack of this quality and so representative of the main character it goes with.

When I heard the first notes of this song, I instantly visualised the Warner Bros logo morphing into a police blimp with twin spotlights, like some inescapable Pavlovian reflex. Was that just me? Anyone else?
Keaton, Nicholson and this magnificent score. How could you not love Tim Burton's Batman? Arguably the one that birthed the era of big budget superhero movies. Not perfect, just awesome.
I would say that Richard Donner's Superman showed it could be done and Tim Burton's Batman actually got the ball rolling.

I still get goosebumps to this piece and seeing danny elfman play this piece live had me tears because it was a childhood dream come true.
The moment at 06:22 give me chills and gets me emotional everytime. It came from dark ambience to a glorius epic happy notes, much closer to Superman than Batman. Love it.

I still can't fathom how Danny Elfman went from being the singer in a mediocre 80's band, writing about dead man's parties, and weird science, to a couple years later writing one of the most epic jaw dropping scores in the history of cinema.
Entire performance is great.

I think what impresses me most about this soundtrack is that I remember the exact moment, day and time I first heard/watched Batman. The epic music echoes like some of the great music by John Williams for the original trilogy of Star Wars; to the opening track of of building excitement to the deep melancholy to the masquerade ball to the intense impact of sudden clash of musical brutality as the score reaches its climax-ending with an inspirational score like the original Superman leaving one with anticipation and hope for the future. This soundtrack is one of the greatest of all time; not just for super hero genre but to me it is a musical masterpiece-- Mr. Elfman music still inspires us to this day.

As if Danny Elfman didn't already make an outstanding theme and score for that movie, that conductor, and those particular musicians in this performance just took a masterpiece of a song that already induces chill bumps, and made it even more spectacular! @@ulrichkrause1579 I am sure that whole concert was amazing. Had I been there I would have had to practice serious restraint to keep from making a spectacle of myself. That period of Danny Efman's work, the late 80's to early 90's is my favorite of his, and Vienna Radio Symphonia Orchestra and Vienna Philharmonia did a masterful rendition. Understandable, yet unfortunate the cancelation due to the Corona virus and social distancing.
I was a young teen in 1989, this was the best movie of my lifetime, at that moment. And this was the first movie that I knew of, at that time, with a soundtrack and a score. I bought the cassette of this score and listened the heck out of it!
Thank you Mr. Elfman for igniting my passion for movie scores.

1989, a drive in theatre in Slippery Rock, PA. I was two. I was in the back seat of a 1976 Chevy Malibu, painted an ugly shade of battleship grey, spotted with rust. My parents were in the front. My mother glanced back at me, expecting a sleeping baby. No. I was awake, eyes big as dinner plates, staring at the screen as this music filled our senses. They didn't close til the movie's finale. That's my first memory.
So operatic. Just beautiful, scary, fun, and tragic. It’s everything. Perfect.
