What is Boro/sashiko? (Kapital century denim, DIY, etc.)

- Yo!
I hope y'all are doing well and safe. Today's video will be about the equally traditional and beautiful practice of creating boro fabrics as well as sashiko stitching. I talk about a little bit of the background of both concepts and show some solid examples of both of them including one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe (Kapital Century Denim). Particularly sashiko is a fun practice that makes for a great DIY project and I highly suggest it to anyone out there!
If you have any questions or want to talk about anything feel free to DM me on IG or throw it in the comments down below! I hope you all enjoyed this one!

That Kapital pair is killer, I bet the stitching feels nice when walking around.
Yo love your video! Denim from Kapital is a absolute piece that you need in your wardrobe. Actually their fabric is entertaining like you can’t find the same material anywhere.
Dude great video as usual. That diy patchwork on the jacket looks insane! looking forward to the next one
Thanks brotha! Many more coming soon! Some DIY and some more informative ones!
NEXT LEVEL!🙌🏼
JonathonLV no need to yell, Jonathon. 🤫
Just picked up the N7S, so in loveeeee
Great video, very interesting topic. That pair of Kapital denim pants is just insane. Keep it up. Looking forward to the next video.
Hugo Portillo thank you Hugo! Your consistent support is truly something I’m thankful for 🙏
Looking forward to this video man. I've known about Kapital for a long time but I was and still am not too sure on the specifics of their products and how they make them. So I'm really glad you came up with a video on a topic I didn't know I needed. Looking forward to it! :)
Definitely stay tuned! This one isn’t too centered on Kapital (I really just give a short look at century denim) but in the near future I will be putting out two recent pick ups from Kapital and I intend on giving a brief history of the brand as well!
Informative video!
Personally got a black and a blue UA & Sons Sashiko denim, and their Sashiko jacket. And a fdmtl denim too.
I don’t have a piece from Fdmtl yet but I’ve been on the hunt for a while 🤔 but yeah informative is definitely what I aim for! While trying to keep it as entertaining as possible!
Great video! I have a quick question, how is the fit on the century denim and kapital jeans in general? I usually wear a 36/34 and prefer straight legged jeans/more wide than tapered.
Super informative as usual my bro 🙌 gotta check out Kapital!
I highly suggest it! If you’re a fan of visvim you will likely LOVE Kapital. I will have a video coming out soon with my newest Kapital pick ups too 🙏
Quality content my G 👍
Thank you so very much!!
Sick stuff man, big sub coming ur way
hydn thank you so very much 🙏
Dude. I just found you! You’re channel/style is fire. Keep the vids coming. Glad I found you before the wave hit
Jensu Moreno welcome dude! I really hope the wave you’re talking about is actually coming LOL
Joshua Galdo It’ll take time man but you got good content and good charisma. Don’t forget us when you get up 🤘🏽
awesome vid very informative
Steven Lee thank you so much for watching it 🙏
Hey so question about the Century denim, how do they change over time? I’ve heard that the sashiko is suppose to fall into the base layer denim over time to reinforce. Have you seen this at all with ur pair?
I actually have! Around the knees and back pocket the bumpy texture of the jeans actually feel relatively flat and so in a way it’s a self healing fabric 😂
Hows the sizing on the century denim? TTS? Or should I go up 1-2 sizes up
Kapital is my go to brand usually. I also like Visvim but Kapital is a more affordable route imo.
Obviously haven‘t watched your video yet but ik it‘s gonna be good as always haha :)
Flynn Diener bro visvim and Kapital are some of the greatest at the moment! I mention both in the video lmao. I see Kapital as a more adventurous, colorful, crazy version of Visvim and just more affordable. Visvim is like the Japanese/Americana for the more mature looks
Love the stussy custom! Where did you find those panels with the prints?!
Etsy!
Just went and bought a brand new century denim jacket just wondering how has your century denim held up if you still have it?
Hi, which number of century denim were those? I'm looking into buying a pair but want to see how they look after fading
studio d’ artisan is another great brand that does sashiko
Great video, one thing I want to point out is that the sashiko on the kapital century denim is actually woven sashiko not stitching sashiko, in the inside of the pants the sashiko thread not going through the denim fabric the way.
Neo Bui thank you so much for pointing that out!
Love this video. Ive heard that with century denim the purpose of the sashiko is to enforce it but also add texture that distresses and changes depending on the wearing making a unique pair of jeans. Idk if its true but still really cool
Matt Brailsford I haven’t come across a pair that is distressed but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was super interesting because of the stitching! Maybe one day I’ll find out LOL
I was wondering how long it took you to break in the kapital jeans? I bought a brand new pair recently and didn’t realize they were so stiff
Julian Scoffield I couldn’t give you a solid timeline bro, sorry. I purchased mine second hand and they were broken in by the previous owner
Amazing video ! I purchased come century denim and I accidentally got the straight leg cut. Should I get them tailored. I already soaked them and shrunk them but the leg is still a little to baggy
Tailoring century denim can be very tricky because the stitching throughout has a definite direction that you can see, if you get them tailored that may interfere with that pattern and look a little funky. If its a Kapital size 34, I'll buy your pair off you if you want LOL
@@wheres_galdo it’s tag sized 36
@@AR24912404 do you have ig? If you could send me pictures and a price you are looking for I’d love to see if I can purchase it off you!
@@wheres_galdo I think I’m just going to tailor them. Because it’s very hard to find a pair that will fit me.
@@wheres_galdo hey would you still purchase my pair lol. Tailoring does seem risky
the kapitol century denim pants with sashiko are machine done? it all looks far too uniform to be handwork.
love visvim but its just so expensive so i usually opt out for kapital instead
I very much agree. Kapital is just as good and can be super interesting with their clothing! I will have a Kapital pick ups video sometime soon!
@@wheres_galdo cant wait to see it!
LV did a colab with kaput all and that boro jacket is from the last of that patchwork that was made from that time
That’s actually amazing, I want it more LOL
man i wish i could fit in japanese clothing brands :(
Denny Dao bro some Japanese sizing from some brands are crazy lol. I remember trying on something from a Japanese brand in an XL and it fit like a medium
The original sashiko is the hand sewing by people that the core beauty of handmade. Anything from machine sewing is just ok but not valuable at all. it can not compare to human skill and unique single piece. I only collect boro hand sewing sashiko from real vintage piece.
