This would have blown the minds of the men that built the first subways
Man is still better then machine
And with time making life better@@jacobwillcox6004
@jacobwillcox6004 I agree but technology is kinda favored for saving lives. In that aspect being underground and all. Dangerous.

The machine is like a monster..
Used to be one of the workers behind one of those monsters not particularly this one but it's magnificent to work behind the scenes of this tunnel monster😮
@@MarkHarper-ek8sscool to hear, there is something about big machines and men 😜✌🏻🤙🏻 this looks like an awesome job where this part is almost a party
Yum yum yum rock it says 😋
Dune-like.
The machine *is* a monster.
The precision of drilling through underground for miles to make its exit at the exact pre-cut position is insane
More than pre cut! I worked on a site in 2012 and along one side of the foundations for the building we used fibreglass rods in place of steel Reo bar the tunnel for the subway is being done around that area today!
Thee Gyro-Theodolite (spelling most likely wrong) is usually how they do it... Okay I watch way too much QI.
Lol I'm working on this site currently and it definitely amazing I'm building the roadway
Если бы они один раз прицелились, и с тех пор ни разу не корректировали направление движения, тогда бы это действительно была бы супер-точность. А тут они постоянно сверялись - не ушли ли они в сторону.
Oh Jeez it's as if it's 2024 and technology is advancing every year. We'll all have smart phones and smart TVs soon! Oh wait....
I live in Hampton and trust me, that project can't be finished soon enough. Tomorrow would be great.
I'm a operator on the project I'm working 6 days a week at night 12 hours each night we are making progress on the road in the tunnel
@@coltonmeredith2111 I appreciate your efforts, and please don't take my comment to mean I'm mad at y'all. Not at all, I understand construction. And I've only built houses, never a tunnel or bridge. And you can't stop weather delays, which I'm sure you get stopped by.
When will we start using the new traffic pattern I heard about? And thanks for working on the traffic issues!
Is it true... project is 18 months behind?
@@cmullin1086 I heard it's behind but I don't know how far
Where is this.. what does it connect to
They call it boring but I find it really quite exciting
Ba-dum, tss
Its probably an invention from german speaking Countries (swiss or Austrian) bc digging means "bohren" hence boring
@@thomashauer6804 what no, no connection at all, its Elon Musk and his The boring company building tunnels for electric cars
@@soundye o thx...😂 The drilling tech was invented in the Alps but the name comes from musks Company true
I think it's quite drilling
Even more impressed from the sign above showing that it was on schedule 👏👏
Just like 1+1=2 buddy
But was it under budget or over budget?
They just put those up that day probably.
.....after being reprinted 5 times 😂😂
and the concrete wall was scored EXACTLY where the drill was going to appear.
Can you imagine the amount of torque on that
To think. One day my grandkids will be stuck in traffic in this tunnel. Warms my heart.
Tell you what, I don't disagree with you but the I64 expansion going to Richmond is a GD blessing. I remember in the summer the stretch in Newport News that used to go from 4 lanes to 2 in about a half mile or so was an absolute nightmare.

The UK/France built the Channel Tunnel in the 1980s. The two machins met in the middle and were only 130mm out of line. The tunnel is 27 miles long.
I like how you mix imperials and metrics in same comment.

@@monza1002000Well you’re not going to see that happen on the US side of the pond 🫤. My children decided at some point to go metric on their own. It really throws people
when they give C’ and cm 😅 just to mess with people. I will never understand why we didn’t make the move- it was a thing when I was in school; then someone decided it was too difficult? Sure- a systems of 10’s or a system of 12’s Duh
@Makkyddd I grew up with imperial then l started my engineering apprenticeship it was all metric. Two systems in my head now
It's amazing how at the same time this thing is working, the workers behind it are removing debris and lining the wall with concrete at the same time🤯
Revolutionary invention doing it's thang ❤
It's Not a Boring machine..... It's actually quite interesting.
Ha! Ok, Elon.

Ive been on big construction projects that involve multiple companies and it took months to over a year to finish. That comradery when the project reaches a big milestone is one of the most gratifying feelings a man can have. You group of men through toil and sweat have built a thing that will serve our society for decades to come.
It satisfies a need to create and provide and be part of something. I believe its why men take these kinds of roles. We seek that specific feeling of gratification

Chill you're making me want to go make a tunnel.

I fixed the rescue shelter A/C on this machine while it was boring. It’s 42 foot wide and is amazing to see in person.
Финишная прямая , КРАСАВЦЫ 👍
Just imagine what the world could do if they all just got along and spent their money on structure instead of war, it would never happen just a thought
Instead, we tie value to monopoly money and vote for a system of dishonest, corrupt, evil demons to rule over us.
And then act surprised about the world we live in
Great Idea!!🐝🐝🐝
Teach the young
I agree but most of our technology comes from war.
We'd be very far advanced, and already visiting other planets with ships of humans

It would be pretty scary of they didn't know exactly where it was going...
That’s the easiest part of the entire project. The boring machine also goes ridiculously slow too, so it’s not as if a few minutes of losing concentration for a minute or two will send you hundreds of meters off course.
Pre cut hole
Nice cut👍👍👍
That Bridge-Tunnel in VA is some amazing architecture! Mattafact, if I remember correctly, they have more than one. You have that main line, and then there are either one or two smaller ones around in the city area.
The new one is the third one, they started with just 1 one-lane each way bridge tunnel, expanded to a second, giving them 2 lanes in each direction, this third one, when finished, will, unfortunately still notbrelieve the congestion. But it will help. I have many stories about the first 2 bridge tunnels and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, connecting Cape Charles and Cape Henry or the Tudewater area with the Delmarva peninsula from my dad, he worked on all 3 of them.
To think machines like this exist is just mind blowing fantastic video
To think that machine just drilled through underneath the chesapeake bay is crazy too
Get out of moms basement an stop eating hot pockets.
@mrbailey4272 lol you had time to read through comments and find me n this other dude and make that reply but we are the lovers in mom's basement?
So they already made those saw cuts for the shape of the TBM, pretty precisely cut 👏🏽
I mean the concrete would split otherwise not that they’d care
It’s the pressure exerted/transferred on the material /wall that allows that to happen.
