    ABOUT THE BOOK:
The result of a multi-year excavation of Dolenz’s astonishing personal collection, I’m Told I Had A Good Time is a literal treasure trove of photography, artwork, handwritten lyrics, scripts and assorted ephemera spanning 1945-1978. Lavishly illustrated with more than 1200 images, it includes nearly 500 photos of Micky Dolenz, more than 200 of Davy Jones and over 150 of Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork (respectively). The majority of the book’s contents is previously unpublished, including all-new commentary and captions from Micky Dolenz, compiled from 20 hours of exclusive interviews conducted by Andrew Sandoval from February 2022 through June 2023.
Dolenz was not only an avid chronicler of The Monkees’ activities, but also the intensely creative circle around him. Included are more than two dozen unpublished images of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, photos of The Rolling Stones’ Brian Jones and Ron Wood, and several pages of Micky’s friends, The Buffalo Springfield. During 1967 and 1968, Micky also shot incredible unpublished photos of Otis Redding, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, “Mama” Cass Elliot, Eric Clapton, David Crosby, Jack Nicholson and Harry Nilsson. In the 1970s, he captured the likes of Keith Moon, Alice Cooper, Albert Brooks, Ringo Starr and Micky’s group: Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart.
In the book’s introduction, Micky explains his hidden archive: “I honestly don’t know why I started keeping this stuff! I just always kept things since I was a child. My mom did too. But I never had any intention of doing anything with it. I certainly did not keep it with any intent to produce anything. It just became a habit; I would just literally throw stuff into boxes. Maybe in the back of my mind I thought that someday I might stick everything into some sort of scrapbook. As far as the photos and films, I never thought I would do anything with them either, except maybe show them to the grandkids. The editors of this book found stuff at the bottom of boxes that I had no idea still existed. No one has been more surprised than myself with the rediscovery.”

I absolutely love this series and am so grateful to both Micky and Andrew for curating these vodcasts to give us sneak peeks of the book! I have two questions:
    1. Will we be seeing photos from the Justus album recording sessions or during that era in general in this book? or maybe volume 2? I would absolutely love to see them.
    2. Micky, have you ever thought of doing a spanish-language album? or any other language album? Your pronunciation and vocals on Riu Chiu were heartwarming! :)

Thank you Andrew and Micky for being such wonderful historians and creating this amazing gem of a book! I would like to know how did Micky manage to preserve all of this wonderful material for so many years? Also, the show in St. Charles was outstanding and Micky looks great and had an extra spring in his step.❤

Hi Andrew, Jerry Beck here. Hi Micky - I’m a huge fan. I love when you talk about your days on the Columbia Screen Gems lot - both Circus Boy and the Monkees. My number one question is about your cast mates on Circus Boy. You worked some legendary Hollywood actors - Noah Beery Jr., Robert Lowery (did you know he played Batman in 1949?), Sterling Holloway, Andy Clyde etc. I’d love to hear if you have any memories or personal stories with them.

So close, yet so far away! I’m in Nixa, MO! My hubby and I saw you and Mike in St. Charles, MO at the Family Arena the month before Mike passed away! I’m so glad we made it to his final performance in MO! We were on The Beach Boys Cruise to the Bahamas, last year and you were my main reason for going on the cruise! You came over and met me at the Chumash Casino after you performed in the Happy Together Tour, there in May of 2010. I’m the one that had on my “MySpace” page, “Out of all the billions of people on the face of the earth, there’s only TWO people I want to meet! Micky Dolenz and Jesus! I’ve been blessed to meet you personally at the Chumash. You were so kind to take time out to come over to me ( Jim Lenz was part of your group and he told you about me after my friend who I was with spoke to him. Turns out they knew each other because they lived in Ojai). Anyway, you had your picture taken with me, gave me a kiss on the cheek and a hug! Never in a million years did I think I’d meet my teen idol! Now you’re my Senior Idol, Lol! I’ve been following you since Circus Boy! God bless you Micky and I hope to get your book! You have amazing talent and the best personality!

Can't wait to receive my flexi-bound version!
My question is whether Micky took any photos of the guys during the Headquarters sessions at RCA studios.
If so, do any appear in the book?

Loved this!! I’m really enjoying this podcast, thank you both for doing this and allowing us to get an inside look into the book before it’s available.
The video for Shiny Happy People was just beautiful, I loved seeing the old home movies and footage that we’d never seen before. My question is, is there any plan to release more of this footage someday? Thank you again, can’t wait to receive the book!!

Okay I have thought out my questions. Forgive me for having so many, but when you have an opportunity to ask your favorite Monkee a question (or 2) about his life.... You gotta go for it! 😁
    1. Micky, how does it feel to add (incidental) pop culture historian, to your already long and stellar resume? Especially since you did it during such a crucial period in not only music history and culture, but also in the history of the world itself? May I suggest that the next book in this series be named “Hi I’m Micky, The Accidental Archivist”! 📸🎥📕
    2. You mentioned in a previous video that this book was 3-4 years in the making. I'm assuming that Michael may have still been alive during the beginning of this process. Was he aware of this massive project and if so, how did he feel about it? Was he able to see any of the long-forgotten pictures? 💚
    3. Were there any instances that you encountered difficulty viewing some of your historic photographs during this process? Because they triggered memories that brought back strong emotions; either good or bad? I have found it difficult to observe mementos of my life sometimes. Because it can evoke intense feelings about the people you miss, or that moment in time, or the circumstances of that particular moment.
    4. In your school years, did you have a passion for history along with your passion for science? Were there any "foreshadowing" events in your youth. That may have hinted that this kind of project, may come to fruition one day?
    5. Have you found any family photos that you didn’t know existed, that you are extremely happy that you have? Like maybe photos that another relative took, that you are now in possession of?
    6. Which Monkee enjoyed being photographed the most? 📷🐒 Which Monkee said to you, "stop taking pictures of me" the most?🙈 I have my assumptions, but your verification would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your consideration of theses questions. LOVE you Micky💙! Thank you for sharing this with your fans, and thank you Andrew for delivering it!💙💚❤🧡
