All I knew was that there was a tornado coming right towards us, and we didn't have enough time to get downstairs into the basement. We got hit by the edge. The house across the street and one over to the left of ours was completely leveled with nothing left but the plumbing that the family was clinging to when they were rescued. Everyone survived, and I'm convinced that it was because that family knew what to do in the event of a tornadol. I think the amateur footage people take with there cell phones and personnel cameras are way better than these professional storm chasers. Chasers talk to much and get scared to easy. lol
Tornadoes kill a lot of people with any magnitude, and a lot of tornado related deaths are from structure falling on top of them - not from the tornado. Storm chasers always act so theatrical and melodramatic and ruin a lot of good footage by acting like drunk frat boys. Be calm, silent, and professional. The camera does the talking, the person filming should keep silent.
It seems that Moore is targeted more by tornadoes than any other town. I wonder if they could put a traffic grounding, and tell people to stay wherever they are in a sturdy building or get in to one, and stay put until the threat of the tornado passes. Then, they can get out on the road, of course, even if they have to find an alternate route to their destinations. Nothing could be worse than to have to sit in traffic, when people should be moving. They should be treating even the lights as four-way stops and getting to safety asap. I was utterly terrified as I listened to this video, because you were trapped.
You went right through my stomping grounds! We lived 2 blocks from the sirens, and maybe 5 from the 7/11 you passed. I think this is the one that wiped out my sister's donut shop. Is this the one that hit Plaza Towers Elementary? Little bro went there. Had a girlfriend just a short distance away too. Tornadoes are a way of life in Moore!
Okay, so this one confused me. I dunno if he was trying to chase it or run from it. It seemed to me that when he was outside town, in the open, it was his best view. It even looked as though the tornado was moving along side him, not at him.
at 13:44 the kid does exactly the wrong thing "turn the car around". The tornado was going to miss him if he stayed where he was, but instead of driving straight, which would have taken him away from the path of the tornado, he actually unwittingly moved right directly into it. Luckily the tornado's x direction proved to change directions so, everything worked out in the end. At least for this time...
2 lane Road, bumper to bumper traffic what could go wrong with an F5 tornado in your view. What amazes me is the weather people were warning people in the area 3 days before the event that everything was in place for this to happen but yet everyone went about business as usual like nothing's going on. I've heard all the excuses but truthfully when you live in a place where volcanoes earthquakes tornadoes are frequent I think I would be a lot more alert and plan ahead. Bless all the people of Oklahoma that they never have to experience an event like this ever again but sad to say it seems like that part of Oklahoma is tornado Central.
I was wondering: That Federal Signal 2T22 that you passed right as it went off at 2:15, was that one of Moore's sirens that was wrecked in the tornado and had to be replaced? If it was, I'm glad you passed it so we could hear it one more time before it was forced into the scrap yard by the tornado. As for at the end, I can't believe how they turned a two-way road into a one-way for evacuees from the tornado. Love that one pickup truck that was going in reverse as other vehicles were going forwards on the opposite side of the road as they fled the Finger of God.
I looked at the path and the 2T22 that you see him drive by was JUST North of Northern edge of the tornado. The actual path was just South of where he turned after the second 7-11 and the High School.
I looked on Google Maps the other day and it showed Copyright 2014, and the siren was still there with NO DAMAGE! I'm just wondering what the other sirens I'm hearing are. I hear the initial 2T22 he drove by, there's another 2T22 that was hit by the tornado, and I'm also hearing a modulator. However, I'm wondering what that other siren I'm hearing is, I have a map and within the general proximity of Moore that he is driving through there are 36 sirens out of 181 in the OKC Metro Area. At 5:00 I hear a modulator, but I hear another high-pitched siren that is not a modulator.
Matthew Kowal It could have been a Federal Signal 2001 or a Thunderbolt at a high setting. Moore is one of the few municipalities lately that still uses Thunderbolts. You also caught the Modulator he passed as he entered a parking lot that, as he retreated back the way he came later on, it was now going off, right?
I heard the modulator that was to his North, the modulator that he passed the first time that was silent, but when he retreated was going off was not the one I was talking about.
Just seeing that monster out in the distance is causing me anxiety! Watching all those cars on the road also! Oh my goodness, those poor people, and knowing the destruction and loss of life, makes my heart heavy with sadness.
omg my heart dropped into my stomach when the sirens started going off. Most terrifying sound ive ever heard in my life. Still almost panic everytime i hear it.
I live in Oklahoma and hadn't seen a tornado until 2 years ago so for 21 years I never saw one, and to see one I had to go storm chasing into Joplin, Missouri. Yeah oddly my first tornado was one of the most devastating in recent history.
Good footage! When you left that yard and drove right and got stuck in traffic I always wonder why you didn't go left, the opposite direction the tornado was headed?
The thing that I find wild about this video is how in the beginning of the video, they drove through places that were heavily impacted by this tornado.
I really feel for the people who have to deal with these storms. I live in Canada and we get relatively no bad weather compared to the U.S. We get no hurricanes, the occasional very small tornado, and some bad winter storms, but nothing strong enough to completely sweep your house away...
Wow, that was a bad two weeks for Oklahoma, Moore tornado May 20th, then the El Reno tornado May 31st, both of which set records, the latter being the largest, weirdest tornado in recorded history.
You’d better believe that if I’m stuck in some long line not moving and I got a tornado behind me I’m using the other free lane and I making a move. Anybody coming towards me is on their own if they don’t see a tornado coming right at them and they better get out of my way because I’m coming.
What gives me chills, is when he's driving south, away from the tornado heading east, and still debris is falling in front of him. Still chilling, and I chase them.

It used to be a bi-monthly thing but since the Joplin tornado they quit turning them on as often do to it desensitizing people. I have gone to the store plenty of times with them going off but not in the past couple of years. Now when they go off we go outside and look for a tornado. That's life in tornado alley/Oklahoma for ya.
People are so much like animals. Deer in this case. Its as though they feel the need to cross a tornadoes path to feel like they are escaping it. I see it time and time again. Going in the same relative direction, where the pathes would (not at same time necessarily) diagonally cross, then continue on. Like both making a letter X and both starting from the bottom. What i dont understand is- dude, just turn around . Theres no traffic going that way, and then youd be going the OPPOSITE direction of the tornado, and you'd be behind and out of its potential path quite easily. Deer out in fields often times will run 100s of yards , at an angle, and cross ahead of you driving, in order to escape. They need to cross your path in order to feel like they are escaping. This is one of the reasons deer get hit by cars. When all its gotta do is just go the opposite direction, or even just stand still. But just like this dude and the heard of other folks around him, lets escape the tornado by running the same direction as it.....🤦♂️
Putting a row of trees as well as a power pole between the tornado and you camera doesn't make sense if you are video chasing tornados. All you had to do was watch the right and left side of the tornado movement to see it's direction and if it's widening on both the left and right sides, get the fk out of it's way cause it's coming directly toward you.
I was living there at the time and I was by applecreek elementary school in the neighborhood above it meddow run I lived in the coldesec middle house on Tara street so I was a quarter mile from the tornado I was only in kindergarten

Mitchell John Leslie that 2.6 mile wide tornado hit El Reno 11 days after the Moore devastation, on May 31, 2013. And yes it did kill Tim & Paul Samaras and Carl Young, plus an amateur chaser.
These affected communities must be in desperate need of financial support after experiencing so much physical damage. Federal relief must only go so far, and I have no idea what kind of funding the state takes responsibility for, though it must be a sizeable amount. It's hard to imagine there's enough to include new construction of necessary storm shelters. It must be so surreal to be on the ground in close proximity to one of these monsters. The type of weather preceding tornados like this is something we're all familiar with. Hot, humid, muggy day with a stillness in the air. Sounds travel in a very peculiar way in the still air. It's such a distinctive phenomenon, but I think only rarely does it result in an actual tornado like this one. So I'm grateful to the people who, instead of taking cover in shelters, get in their cars and drive towards the danger, with cameras in hand. Some of them even get hurt or worse because of how unpredictable these storms can be. That's got to be more than a little frightening considering the awesome power brought by these winds. It must be quite an experience to live through.
It always amazes me that in all these videos I watch these people stay in their lanes lol. I know at the end they are driving on the wrong side but they needed to be doing that as soon as the tornado was directly behind them. If you are ever in that situation get yourself out as fast and as safe as possible. When your life is in danger road rules go out the window. Example, I'm about to be hit by a tornado.... I really hope this light turns green before it kills me......

You did a wonderful job filming this!!
I'm just as impressed by the lack of profanity. I would've been dropping f-bombs all over the place.
I know, me too!
I think the amateur footage people take with there cell phones and personnel cameras are way better than these professional storm chasers. Chasers talk to much and get scared to easy. lol
This tornado killed 24 people, so it was rather childish of this chaser to be afraid of it -- right?
No, they know the danger better than anyone. Your comment was just plain ignorant
No his comment was right on.
Be butthurt about something else ya Soy Latte having, skinny jeans wearing mommas boys.
*too
It seems that Moore is targeted more by tornadoes than any other town.
Ford raptor driver: "Screw you guys I'm going home"
So many homes and business he passes in the opening minutes of this video would be flattened minutes later... Truly a sad day for Oklahoma.
This was def 1 of the better videos I've seen on this storm , absolute monster
You went right through my stomping grounds! We lived 2 blocks from the sirens, and maybe 5 from the 7/11 you passed. I think this is the one that wiped out my sister's donut shop. Is this the one that hit Plaza Towers Elementary? Little bro went there. Had a girlfriend just a short distance away too. Tornadoes are a way of life in Moore!
Okay, so this one confused me. I dunno if he was trying to chase it or run from it. It seemed to me that when he was outside town, in the open, it was his best view. It even looked as though the tornado was moving along side him, not at him.
It must feel so helpless to be stuck in traffic with a tornado behind you.
Austin Hightower yeah I would have slammed on my horn at that rate & become a very irate driver.
That one guy in that black truck had some balls to go around traffic
its called survival man what do you have to loose at that point except for your life
Amazing footage. You were so very brave.
This whole time I'm thinking, is this guy doing this alone? The camera, watching radar and driving...goodness, be safe out there!
1:58- That 7-11 was swept clean by the tornado, killing 4 people inside it.
at 13:44 the kid does exactly the wrong thing "turn the car around". The tornado was going to miss him if he stayed where he was, but instead of driving straight, which would have taken him away from the path of the tornado, he actually unwittingly moved right directly into it. Luckily the tornado's x direction proved to change directions so, everything worked out in the end. At least for this time...
He's not a kid
He's trying to get as close as he can to it, not run away from it.
That siren gives me chills every time! Thank you for a great video. You did a great job
The first time traffic stopped I would've been around everybody.
This massive vortex had to have been both a dream and a nightmare for any tornado chaser.
It would be helpful if sometimes the storm chasers would give their location and the direction that they are traveling, and on what road/highway.
Sooo agree!!
100% of trained weather spotters do that.
Matthew Kowal So the tornado could've either spared or wrecked the 2T22 due to how close it was to the damage path? Guess it was a matter of luck...
Matthew Kowal
It could have been a Federal Signal 2001 or a Thunderbolt at a high setting.
Dude driving the ford raptor gave no f**ks ,can’t blame him though I probably would have been right behind him
I live in Oklahoma and hadn't seen a tornado until 2 years ago so for 21 years I never saw one, and to see one I had to go storm chasing into Joplin, Missouri. Yeah oddly my first tornado was one of the most devastating in recent history.
Good footage! When you left that yard and drove right and got stuck in traffic I always wonder why you didn't go left, the opposite direction the tornado was headed?
Good footage. Puts it a little more into perspective, when debris is flying past your windshield.
There’s that tornado siren right there where you past it
It’s always so haunting to hear birds chirping in the foreground while a tornado roars in the background. Creepy 😱
The escape rush.
Best real to life storm chase yet!
It’s Matt he was with twistex
Wow, that was a bad two weeks for Oklahoma, Moore tornado May 20th, then the El Reno tornado May 31st, both of which set records, the latter being the largest, weirdest tornado in recorded history.
You don't live in Oklahoma do you?
You’d better believe that if I’m stuck in some long line not moving and I got a tornado behind me I’m using the other free lane and I making a move. Anybody coming towards me is on their own if they don’t see a tornado coming right at them and they better get out of my way because I’m coming.
What gives me chills, is when he's driving south, away from the tornado heading east, and still debris is falling in front of him. Still chilling, and I chase them.
" RFD "
Yep. And for an ef5, that debris landed even further than his location
Camera: reet rut reet rut reet rut reet rut reet rut....
Driver: doing the job of what should be a 3 man crew.
Tornado: "peek-a-boo"

But It was a great shot of that monster tornado. And did you escape ok ?
That 7/11 he passed, was that the same one that 2 people were killed at?
+RSully94 It was actually 4 people but yes, that was the 7/11 location that got hit.
Yes, 4 people were killed at the 7-11 at 4th and Telephone Road. It is shown here @1:58.
Yes. I know this because I know him.
I had just left that 7-1-1 about 10 minutes before the tornado hit...when I helped with S&R I was shocked at what I saw. Tornadoes do some horrible things to the human body
TN BLITZKRIEG in the Jarrell f5 tornado, they couldn’t distinguish human remains from animal remains, so I completely agree.
A work conversation ;
Boss: Congrats! You got the promotion!
Employee: Great!
Boss: It does require relocating.
Employee: Where to?
Boss: Moore, OK
Employee: Yeah, I quit.
Hey Moore is great, we love it here 😂
@@joshs6535 planning to move there after high school.
@@NormanWeather great idea. Why do you plan on moving here?
@@joshs6535 I'm a big tornado guy and I am going to be a storm chaser as a career. Moore looks like a great place to live in especially right now after the tornado happened.
@@NormanWeather welcome in advance. I did the same thing. I moved from Pennsylvania and I don't regret my decision at all.
It sounds like he's packaging up an important amazon return in the background
I was about a half mile ahead of you in a 2500 Dodge ram diesel when the tornado tried spawning another one. It moved so close to my location my last thought was "can't die in shitty drawers" lol. The loss of life in this storm was horrendous
I was just thinking that if was in a 4x, I’d cut through that field on the opposite side of he road when a black truck did exactly hat!
I WONDER IF THIS GUY IS WEARING DEPENDS LOL
I hope so cause I think he done crapped his pants!! If not 4 sure he pissed um!!!!
Good video. You sounded concerned but no hysteria, which too many of these tornado videos have!
We still test every Saturday in Moore, weather permitting. If thunderstorms are in the forecast, we do not test them.
Nature 1 - Man 0.
But just like this dude and the heard of other folks around him, lets escape the tornado by running the same direction as it.....🤦♂️
love this video
Lol it's only a mile and a half wide EF5 tornado, guess I'll wait for the light to change.
When a tornado doesn't seem to be moving that is because it is heading straight for you.
Only if it's getting bigger and not moving. Sometimes, they are nearly stationary, Jarrell, for instance.
I was living there at the time and I was by applecreek elementary school in the neighborhood above it meddow run I lived in the coldesec middle house on Tara street so I was a quarter mile from the tornado I was only in kindergarten
You constantly moving that camera around is killn my. I stopped watching.
Dude that tornado is a 👹
And the worst thing about this tornado... it's an EF5.

Mitchell John Leslie that 2.6 mile wide tornado hit El Reno 11 days after the Moore devastation, on May 31, 2013. And yes it did kill Tim & Paul Samaras and Carl Young, plus an amateur chaser.
That was awesome!
20:33 the tornado said come back I just want to play
All of those beautiful homes about to be destroyed. I hope those people were aware of what was about to come upon them and took cover.
I saw more hairy knees and flip flops than a tornado lol
lolol
Wow, man wild day
These affected communities must be in desperate need of financial support after experiencing so much physical damage.
I know it was all go but the camera work is terrible
"I should watermark this video. People love annoying watermarks and this is obviously going viral'
Keep going people...im shitting myself right now...lmao
It always amazes me that in all these videos I watch these people stay in their lanes lol. I know at the end they are driving on the wrong side but they needed to be doing that as soon as the tornado was directly behind them. If you are ever in that situation get yourself out as fast and as safe as possible. When your life is in danger road rules go out the window. Example, I'm about to be hit by a tornado.... I really hope this light turns green before it kills me......
What’s that ticking noise when u stopped? Not hail at this point.
In the 10th minute? Those are the emergency flashers on his vehicle "blinking."
