      I think its a matter of just how soon at this point. There are already a few IR sensors that support guncons on the Mister. So its just a matter of the Saturn cores being compatible. Which is in progress. Id say by next year the latest. But its always hard to gauge progress on the cores. Especially since most of the devs are doing analogue pocket FPGA in parallel. All good things.

    • @VideoGameEsoterica
      @VideoGameEsoterica  9 месяцев назад

      Saturn isn’t going to be on Pocket so it’s def a one platform development at this point

      Definitely. And I’ve shown them on the channel. GunCon, GunCon 2, GunCon 3 on LCD, Wii controller, etc etc. But this is my fav genre of arcade game so I’m going to add every new option to my collection and this has been the best.

    I've never had any issues with my GunCon 3, even when I purposefully tried to ruin the crosshair calibration by moving forward, backward, and stepping side to side away from the screen it still had perfect accuracy for me. I even spun around in circles like a fool, and had no issues.
    I bought 2 Sinden guns, but wasn't too pleased with using them, I barely got it work with Duckstation playing Time Crisis, but it wasn't close to playing Time Crisis on original hardware with a CRT.
    It would be amazing if we can get light guns back for modern consoles, new games on PS5, with an accurate gun that doesn't require fiddling with configurations and text files to make it work.

    Sinden Lightgun has a little bit of setup but based on all the videos I've seen, it's faster than Gun4IR, though that's probably dependent on your system. Also they're cheaper and in stock.

    • @VideoGameEsoterica

      Gun4IR requires a bit more up front setup but once that’s done it’s done for good unless you change screens

    • @macdox69
      @macdox69 6 месяцев назад

      Having both I would disagree. Both work well and I doubt end users could perceive noticeable difference. The Sinden software has additional CPU load and the added border, both which the GUN4IR don't. If you have the skills (or know someone who can do it for you), the Gun4IRs are cheaper and you have a choice in gun shells as well. I will agree I was shocked at some of the prices for premodded Gun4IRs thought. JB's recently released PCBs sure make the task much easier.

    • @VideoGameEsoterica
      @VideoGameEsoterica  6 месяцев назад

      The pre modded price isn’t cheap but the parts add up and the work hours do too

    • @macdox69
      @macdox69 6 месяцев назад

      @@VideoGameEsoterica A lot also depends on where you live. My first 2 GUN4IRs took some time (mostly because of old eyes and rusty soldering skills), but using JB's PCBs and 3D printed parts I was able to convert a Guncon2 conversion yesterday with Solenoid and rumble in a little over an hour. Much easier and cleaner especially if doing a Guncon1/2 conversion. Too bad there isn't a PIF program like printing Voron parts to get these in more users hands. Nice to share these fun classics that newer generation haven't seen. Tactile gun ouputs just adds so much more to these games.

    Gun4IR is definitely a nice kit, it's just too bad that it's so expensive even if it's just the kit let alone fully assembled in a Namco Guncon. Still, I have been considering trying to build a set using some faulty NES Zappers I have lying around to fill in the gaps for what my set of Sindens cannot accomplish. My Sinden lightguns have been great as plug n' play devices on my mini PC that I flashed Batocera to, but they can't play everything which can be frustrating. Most notably, they really just don't work with Sega AM3 (or Model 2 if you will) emulation so that means no House of the Dead or Gunblade NY for me unless I want to use a mouse. PlayStation lightgun games are also hit and miss, but that could be me using the wrong emulator. The Sindens do work great for LA Machine Guns and The Ocean Hunter via Model 3 emulation and pretty much anything on Final Burn Neo will work with Sindens just fine. One of my favorites on Neo is Space Gun, I absolutely love that lightgun game and I'm sad I never saw one in the arcades when I was younger cause I know I would've addored it then to.
    On the subject of the Guncon 3 for the PS3, Batocera recently added plug n' play support for them by basically treating them as Gun4IR's. I don't have the proper IR lights to really test this yet, but I do have to Guncon 3's and I did do some very light testing with the original IR lights just to see if Batocera would pick up the signal and it does work. Not properly due to missing the Gun4IR lights, but I'll test again once I have them. If they work good, then that could be an option for anyone who already have Guncon 3's lying around but it might be smarter to build an actual Gun4IR if they don't since Guncon 3's are becoming rare and expensive. It may also be tougher to affix a lens piece to a Guncon 3 versus going fully custom on a true Gun4IR build. I just so happen to already have two Guncon 3's because I've been collecting for consoles for roughly 8 years so I figured why not try them lol.

      Ooh I didn’t see that about GunCon 3. That’s a fun addition

      The Sindens can play everything the Gun4ir can.
      And yes they work fine with HOTD and gunblade if you use the right emu.
      The only difference between Sinden and Gun4ir is the technology used.
      In terms of emu compatibility they are both the same.

      Yes implementation is there for both. It’s the tech that varies

      @@TitchgamerRG The thing is I don't use standalone emulators on a windows pc or anything like that. I use Batocera which employs the use of Retroarch and some specialized emulators. That may be why my Sindens tend to be spotty.

      The most layers between the controls and the emulator the more sources where issues could crop up

      If you can solder the BOM is public with directions. Much cheaper if you DIY
