Used to be a Musk fan, chiefly for him being a tech visionary (SpaceX is very impressive). Recently I've had to do a complete 180 on the creep, as I realised he is a danger for the world. Anyone supporting the idea that billionaires can decide so-called democratic elections has completely lost their moral compass. The US system of elections is completely broken.
I lost complete respect for Musk when he decidedly purchased Twitter and attempted to back out of it some time later. It was clear then to me that this man is driven by ego and not some grand well-thought vision of any kind.
I still am a Musk fan. The problem is the money in politics, such that any billionaire with crackpot political beliefs, can garner exceptional influence. If Musk is destroyed, the problem doesn't go away.

In the back room of a repurposed data center off Highway 101, Cory flicked a half-depleted roll of circuit tape between his fingers, addressing a crowd of trembling tech bros who worshipped their usual pantheon of innovators. His talk wove conspiracies through their beloved origin stories-those genius founders, Cory claimed, had minted fortunes by hijacking open-source ideals and leeching off unsuspecting coders. Each example was meticulously documented on projected slides, a timeline peppered with points that glowed red like sullen embers of truth. “You think they’re benevolent,” he said, forcing a sad half-smile. “Their philanthropic masks are just bug fixes for a broken system they designed.” The tech bros squirmed, glancing around, uncertain. Cory spoke with the casual intensity of an older cousin explaining the rules of a forgotten family board game. They wanted to reject his arguments, but he offered stats and back-channel logs that seemed too credible to ignore. Their post-gig economy heroes were suddenly tarnished. Outside, the hum of server fans seemed to intensify. As the small group dispersed, some marched out in a fog of hushed shock, others scrolled frantically on battered phones to verify or refute Cory’s claims. He packed up his slides, turned off the projector, and quietly removed an unmarked USB from the console. He plugged it into his ultra-thin laptop, tapped out a short script that ended with a whisper-quiet beep. The encrypted message disappeared into a dark data pipeline, flagged for “further analysis.” No outward sign gave away its destination. But a glimmer in Cory’s eyes lingered as he closed the lid-like a wink to some unseen partner hidden behind the thrumming wires. TL;DR: He's a shill, 100% misrepresentation.

One of the great quotes of all time - your grandfather had laser vision. … .Check who are the “donors” and those whispering in the politicians’ ears. Since the Roman empire, I see recurring actors. Political lobbying is an example of the beast in action. (The beast - as in the cause of unhappiness in this world). A most evil thing taught at universities is Marketing - you can get a PhD in how to con your fellow man … at a University - a place of Insight into our Magical Universe - of Science and the Arts. Shame on all the World’s such Universities. Where is the Real Senate? - as in our Seniors, our Elders, our Grandfathers, to listen to and heed their wisdom. Cory has a great imaginative mind and we definitely need imagination and telling stories that can make us desire the just and prosperous future that is possible. As a software developer, I would really encourage all to learn about the enormous internal community of open source software development and GPL license.
@lindahoganson8721 My personal favorite free and GPL licenced program is Blender 3D but there are endless of open source apps out there. GPL stands for General Public License and was introduced back in the 8'ties and is also called CopyLeft. These were very smart guys that understood a lot about the future of software and the benefits of collaboration and sharing immaterial code for humanity in general. Most software today has been built in cooperation for the benefit af all (who knows it exist). There are different open source licenses out there but GPL is in my view the ultimate collaboration license. I hope you find something you like and even something to participate in. Please ask if you need more help.
Excellent discussion! IMO one thing we must do to prevent the enshittification of our own lives is to restore and revitalise our face to face connections, local communities and local economies.
Elon appears in an episode of the "Big Bang Theory" where we're supposed to be introduced to the new oligarch star and worship him. Media is very consolidated and makes us think what we think about everyone. There's no public resistance.
@theresabarzee1463 chuck lorre, our leader away from making sense from Dharma and Greg and the Rosanne show through Big Bang, the friends show made not commenting on politics the rule.
There's plenty of evidence to empirically support your claim. Studies done through the CASP project (Capital as Power), for example, show how the main Entertainment conglomerates boosted differential accumulation by figuring out how to manage risk. They did this by 1) Harnessing, restraining, shaping, and molding creativity to serve their accumulation, and 2) Train and condition the consumer to actually consume what they produce. This meant they could really shape and restrict the creation and consumption of culture in a highly predictable way. This meant that even though a big Hollywood firm might have pretty average profit margins, they were able to increase differential accumulation dramatically. Hence the "enshittification" of culture. It doesn't matter to make high quality, entertaining products if they take up all the market space and are able to get everyone to consume their products. They increase their relative market power. Now imagine it with AI...
So great to hear Cory's very astute assessment of man-child Musk. As an American in Pennsylvania, we were treated to his nonsense for two months leading up to November. Blechhhh
I just wish it was fact-check accurate. Musk is absolutely fast and lose with the truth, but the "pretend to have built a robot" criticisms are hyperbolic beyond Musk's actual lies. I worry when intelligent people like Cory use hyperbole when it's unnecessary and just invites people dismissing him. The same applies to Cory's comments on what self-driving taxi's can solve, and Starlink. Cory is unfortunately talking as an opposition politician trying to persuade people about how evil Musk is (btw... he is), rather than focusing on the facts.
The reason for Musk's involvement in European Politics is, I believe, fanciful or not, to attempt to create an International Oligarchy to literally rule the planet. And of course, he being the king of the heap, would be at the top. Mad as that may seem.
No its in fact to oppose the de facto oligarchy that already rules the planet. You know, the one that pays shills like Doctorow to try to get you to not look...... the one that has staged military interventions in almost 100 countries, and has such sway over the media that you don't even know about it?! Really, wake up will you.
Elon Musk is proof that in this epoch, and undoubtedly for the first time in the history of humanity and of its inhumanity, stupidity rules as such, totally and shamelessly.
He's clearly not stupid. You can't be stupid and get that rich. Immoral? Definitely. Egotistical? Check. Over-confident in fields that aren't his wheelhouse? Yep. But he is shrewd enough to have played a tactical game that has enriched and empowered himself, and that is not "stupidity", regardless of how much we loath it. You would underestimate the guy as an adversary, to assume him stupid, regardless of the stupid things he says in isolation.
@@PinataOblongata Why can't you be stupid and get rich? Aren't guys like Musk and Trump showing us that you can be that stupid and get rich. Just be extremely rich by birth lie a lot and never face any consequences for it. Seems like their charisma or whatever you want to call it is undeniable but their smarts?
Thanks for your question at the end of the talk Mehran... It was a particularly good way at rounding up thoughts and trying to make sense of how to move forward. Good man. No, the idea is to create alternatives so that we don't have to *use their platform* You missed Yanis' main point. This isn't Capitalism. Amazon isn't selling any goods or services. It's the platform on which other businesses sell goods and services. More to the point - we are the means by which Amazon gains cloud capital. Just by walking down the street with my phone, they're getting capital power. I don't even have to visit Amazon for them to get free labour from me. It's bigger and more powerful than many nations. It's a paradigm shift.

It seems like Elon is the guy we are seeing, whereas before these goon hid in the shadows, content to be rich without the famous. Elon's insecurities make him want to be the cool guy as well as the rich guy, so perhaps that could actually be a good thing for his follies being more visible to everyone and more people waking up to how this is actually what they are all doing (controlling govts and narratives and policy and economies) just not so obviously.
The Musk/Bezos fascination with Banks and the Culture always felt so tragicomically obscene. They're classic Banks villains. We're not going to enjoy techno feudalism.

Thank you for explaining Starling and how slow it is when I know somebody who just thinks that Starlink is the best thing and Elon Musk did so much for everybody and how great Elon is so I didn’t hear the other side of Starlink. Thank you.
Thanks a lot for this session - this was very inspiring! Personally I am very much in favor of the more optimistic and constructive perspective of Cory versus the fatalistic view of Yanis. Of course much of what he says is valid but I do not see the struggle for a solution. We in Europe are in such a dangerous dependency on all tech fronts (especially chips, OS, cloud infrastructure and cloud services) - it is simply embarrassing. But there is no reason in the world not to 1. get the big techs to pay full tax rate for every € they make here and 2. catch up starting from cloud infrastructure and services. And I do not see another place to make this happen different from the often criticized EU Commission hopefully staffed with more tough and competent people like Margrethe Vestager.
I always thought Peter Tiel is the more dangerous one. His worldview is way more dystopian. Elon just looks at himself. Tiel knows how he wants to deal with ‘useless’ people.
They read our dystopias and mistaken them for business plans. Brilliant.
Dystopias are just fleshing out the consequences of Capitalism.

I love the energy and intelligence in here. Fiery without being cultist.
Thank you all for bringing such an amazing guest and for being a voice of reason in such turbulent times!
As an Elon Musk fan until 2025.
Shocked by recent actions.
This is the most comprehensive takedown and analysis.
I'm reconsidering my whole world view now. Thanks 😅
So in all prior years you bought into Elon's chiccanery? Was the Hyperloop, Robo thingy not a red flag?
Frankly I'm surprised it took till 2025.
Better late than never!
Have you ever read the complaints filed against those factories? If I say more, you won't know about it.
I haven't seen worse in this century.
Also, do people know where he got his seed money, to acquire Tesla?
Thankful for the opportunity to listen to intelligence, wisdom, and forward thinking minds.👏👏👏
What youtube program are you referring to?
My Grandfather told me his whole life that the best investment in the world was to buy American politicians
It’s always been the same story - power attracting the corruptible. Corrupt politicians. The people get tired of them one after the other and only act when the shit hits the fan. We must wake up before the Earth wakes us up for us with planetary collapse. But Elon will find a way to escape - I think I recognised him in the film “Don’t look up!”
Isn't it beautiful that two of the greatest grifters (Trump/Musk) of our time have found each other? Here's hoping they grift each other to jail.
Don´t delude yourself that there were any grift-free alternatives
You know it's going to be a great show with Yani and Cory on the call.
Gracias mil. SALUD desde Canarias.
Thanks so much for introducing me to Cory Doctorow - loving the "Stupid Musx" meme. Been following Yanis since before 2008, but Cory is a welcome revelation!
What a breath of fresh air! Thank you for a great show.
With out intelligent podcast like yours i would go crazy soon thank you !
We are not the crazy ones, it is the rest that are insane.
@@Robert-xs2mv Yes. insane to look at original soruces. just believe what Doctorow's ego says, no need to check the original tweet to see how crazy he really is.
The human brain was probably not built to grasp such a complex world. These sense-makers are surely providing relief.
Cory has a great imaginative mind and we definitely need imagination and telling stories that can make us desire the just and prosperous future that is possible.
As a software developer, I would really encourage all to learn about the enormous internal community of open source software development and GPL license.
Will you please introduce this old newbie to a low level starting place. Much appreciated.
@lindahoganson8721
My personal favorite free and GPL licenced program is Blender 3D but there are endless of open source apps out there.
Wonderful, informed and sane discussion. More, please!
Excellent discussion, thank you.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Excellent discussion! IMO one thing we must do to prevent the enshittification of our own lives is to restore and revitalise our face to face connections, local communities and local economies.
Couldn’t agree more! The left needs to rediscover *the offline*
@@mkh4lili Writing paper, envelopes and postage stamps!
Thanks, Yanis and Cory, for pulling back the curtain and letting us see The Great Wizard for what he actually is.
remember MADDOFF.
I like the idea of subverting these tech firms
Elon appears in an episode of the "Big Bang Theory" where we're supposed to be introduced to the new oligarch star and worship him. Media is very consolidated and makes us think what we think about everyone. There's no public resistance.
wonder who produced that vapid show...!?
Big fan of both these gentlemen. Thx, much appreciated.
Bravo!!! Wonderful discourse ...thank you
The reason for Musk's involvement in European Politics is, I believe, fanciful or not, to attempt to create an International Oligarchy to literally rule the planet.
Fascinating listen. Thankyou.
Thank you!!! This is what I’ve been trying to explain to my Elon Stan son since I first wrote about Neurolink more than 10 years ago.
Thanks for this. It gives me some confidence in the world.
Elon Musk is proof that in this epoch, and undoubtedly for the first time in the history of humanity and of its inhumanity, stupidity rules as such, totally and shamelessly.
An extremely hostile parasite.
I think you are overstating. Please check out history on pages 1913 ff.
I have never heard someone happy or someone successful say anything bad about Elon. You guys have to take a deep look into the mirror!
Thanks for your question at the end of the talk Mehran... It was a particularly good way at rounding up thoughts and trying to make sense of how to move forward. Good man. And great thanks to Cory and finally well said Yanis about the rolling strikes against Amazon. Let's not forget that latter point, an important one.
Thank you Brian. I really think we need to discuss actionable solutions more. Will be doing much more of that in 2025.
Diem25 is always working...do not despair. Planets are aligning. We are not in total control. But we have plenty of self-control, if used. No?!
Yanis' thinking is far ahead of our time.
Agree!
Brilliant! ❤
1984 was meant to be a warning, not a prophecy.
Make 1984 fiction again! Right?
Tell Bill Gates that.
The minute I saw Cory was interviewed I started watching!
But did you look up the sources he talks about, and notice how completely and utterly he misrepresents it?
@1001stmonkey Not sure which sources you mean, there are so many. Could you please narrow your reference. I will gladly do further investigation then.
Brilliant really love Cory. You should try and get him and Whitney Web on at the same time. They would work so well together
Man he speaks so delicately and highlighted all the details.
Cyberpunk was a warning not a Suggestion but netwatch is the soloution 😂. Thx for the great ideas. As a german i hate how we dominante the EU with our 1890 Mindeset everywhere. Keep keep up the good work, we can use the web to turn this around.
Loved listening to Cory ^^ Great dude!
Thats very funny.."everybody for himself and me first"
What a programme! Very glad YT served me your show ;-)
I love the idea of transnational strikes against big tech companies that are too powerful.
Thank you for a very interesting, informative, important discussion 👍
Omfg two of my favourite thinkers i can’t wait to hear this. Almost makes me happy to commute lol
Excellent discussion
Like with any other corporation, don't consume their product/service. We give them the power.
No, the idea is to create alternatives so that we don't have to *use their platform*
You missed Yanis' main point.
Thank you ❤

brilliant thinkers and talk
It seems like Elon is the guy we are seeing, whereas before these goon hid in the shadows, content to be rich without the famous. Elon's insecurities make him want to be the cool guy as well as the rich guy, so perhaps that could actually be a good thing for his follies being more visible to everyone and more people waking up to how this is actually what they are all doing (controlling govts and narratives and policy and economies) just not so obviously.
Gus you are loved❤. Greetings from London
The Musk/Bezos fascination with Banks and the Culture always felt so tragicomically obscene. They're classic Banks villains.
We're not going to enjoy techno feudalism.
You won't have to, don't worry. Cory would love you to, though. He literally twists reality, like its some macabre game, to try to gaslight you into believing the opposite of whats true.
Somewhat off topic but I listened to your guys' suggestion from the end of last year to watch Silo and even though I usually stay away from Sci-Fi, I'm more of a Lord of The Rings or Alfred Hitchcock or some political documentary type of guy, I truly, truly enjoyed it and it became one of my all time favorite shows. Now I'm just suffering until second season gets completed in a few days so I can watch that.
Thank you for explaining Starling and how slow it is when I know somebody who just thinks that Starlink is the best thing and Elon Musk did so much for everybody and how great Elon is so I didn’t hear the other side of Starlink. Thank you.
Wow what a super caring talk, there is hope!
Great discussion
I am amazed that you are the only comment that sites Margrethe Vestager.
I think Musk is showing his true colors.
I always thought Peter Tiel is the more dangerous one. His worldview is way more dystopian. Elon just looks at himself. Tiel knows how he wants to deal with ‘useless’ people.
Well done gentlemen!
