    I really enjoyed watching your build. I was struck by how quiet it is when only using hand tools, very peaceful. By going slow it's easier to do precise work, or at the very least avoid making mistakes. I mostly use power tools but your build video will make me consider hand tools more in the future when I'm selecting tools for a particular job. I never realized just how I've fallen into only considering a narrow range of options. Thanks for waking me up!

      Takes longer- but sometimes we have to ask what is our hurry! (I use power tools a lot also!). Thanks for watching, good luck on future projects!

    Mate, great build and I like what you did with the paint. Sounds great, especially for guitar made of pine.
    If you want the notes to not have sympathetic dissonance, lay your index finger on the top of the tone bar, grasp it with middle and thumb, and mute the back (nut side) of the strings with your ring and pinky fingers. :)

      Softwoods are great tone woods. The finest violins have spruce sound boards.

    Well you showed me the result of the very idea of making a stringed instrument. And I thought that it would turn out to be a full-fledged instrument for accompaniment or playing in general.

    That is really cool! I've been thinking about how to go about building one, but other than home repairs I haven't done any woodworking since shop class in highschool 45 years ago.

      Sounds like a good opportunity to get a project running! Several good ‘4x2 lapsteel’ videos here on RUclips to get ideas from. Good luck dusting off those old skills!

    It would be extremely difficult to build this without knowing the dimentions. Is there some place to find them???

      Sorry, i dont have any measurements for this one - being non fretted you really can choose any scale length you like. Perhaps eye it similar to a guitar. That said, are some nice lapsteel plans out there that ideas could be taken from. This could help: www.cigarboxguitar.com/make-a-2x4-lap-steel-guitar-easy-project/

      Actual Frets are unneeded . Some form of Fret Position Marking is needing for anything other than pure improvisational noodling by yourself .
      Could be painted on . Various sources offer inexpensive fretboard Decals , and premade wood or plexiglass fretboard tops .

      Hi, from memory that was a small cheapie. Pretty sure it was the Mannix GA-10 (no doubt branded something else GA-10 in different countries). Was good small quiet practice unit. Certainly hit a capability wall in volume quickly!

      Do you mean parts to make or why do we have them? They have been around since the late 1800’s originally Hawaii I believe.

    How high off the fretboard should the strings be?

    • @MikeHawkey
      @MikeHawkey  2 года назад +4

      As you play them 100% slide its not as critical as a guitar you frett. Mine are about 1cm or a little under 1/2”. The key bit is the pickup - if its too far away from the strings it wont get or wont get a strong signal. For the pickup If you can make adjustable so its very near touching and can move away from there with adjustment its a good place to start.

    • @margarethouse404
      @margarethouse404 Год назад +2

      1/2 inch is generally considered a minimum , for clearance to not hit the fretboard with fingerpicks in vigorous playing .
      No downside to being higher .
      Pickup clearance ? Take measurements / check mfg specs closely . Since you're building from scratch anyway , cut/ chisel the slot to proper depth for your particular pickup . Or simplify even further by using surface mount pickup of suitable height .

    O Machado e a Motosserra
    Eli Silva & Zé Goiano
    Composição: Moacir dos Santos / Zé Goiano
    o machado e a motosserra tiveram uma discussão motosserra diz que é orgulho da evolução machado pra mim já era pois vem do tempo de adão você agora só serve pra fazer calo na mão motosserra dá um ronco relou o dente no tronco já se vê o pau no chão
    a serra chamou o machado pra fazer uma porfia machado aceitou na hora e quando chegou o dia entraram junto no mato pra mostrar a serventia a motosserra roncava machado velho tinia e naquele matagal foi só cavaco de pau pó de serra que subia
    e esse grande duelo deste jeito é que termina na briga das ferramentas o machado é que domina motosserra parou cedo ali no tronco da quina machado seguiu cortando mata grossa e mata fina
    motosserra impotente rebentou sua corrente acabou a gasolina
    que isto sirva de exemplo para toda humanidade e você que é tão jovem tem que saber a verdade respeite bem os mais velhos não brinque com sua idade uma pessoa idosa também tem utilidade é um diamante valioso se não tivesse o idoso não teria mocidade
