Remember the post match interview after her devastating loss to Swiatek ( 2022 U.S Open) when she was wearing Sunglasses? That's when she decided she had to change her game and mentality.
Thank heavens for a wonderful final. Both went for their shots. No one caved in after big leads. It stayed a very close contest. Aryna was the more courageous, and she was rewarded.
Great analysis Gil as usual, really great final by both ladies. Super happy for Sabalenka she has come close so many times and normally chokes in the big moments but today she stayed incredibly tough and this was a well deserved victory.
Gill, not related to the match but I’m wondering if you can spend some time on your next pod talking about how bad the coverage of this event is now in the States. With ESPN inexplicably not sending folks over there and the reduced tv windows without TC to pick up the slack it’s been really disappointing. Thanks
Totally agree. ESPN should lose the rights to televise international tennis . Are things so bad financially at ESPN that they can't send people over there? Monumentally disappointing 😞
On that 15 : 30 when Rybakina hit a great return, I thought this is going to go to a tie break. Then Rybakina pushes a forehand out, timing off (you were spot on, Gill, that was the main difference overall), it could have been a two break points, instead 30 : 30. And then, bang, ace! 👏Sabalenka match point! And then, bang, double f! 🤐😂 And Eurosport commentator said Wow... A life line for Rybakina. And the other one said something like Well she has to go for it, doesn't she? (for Sabalenka's big second service) And from there was the real battle, to triumph or to collapse. Next point Sabalenka clears the line for a winner, very close. Match point n2 Rybakina stepping up, Sabalenka forced error. Rybakina with two brave, agressive shots. Break point earned! Sabalenka brave shot back. Deuce n4 Rybakina tight, unforced error. Sabalenka not backing down, but not overplayed it. Rybakina trouble controlling her forehand, not good redirecting and it goes way out. And game over. Really exciting women's singles finals in a while, great for both players, it is going to be interesting 2023!
Proud of Rybakina the way she hung in there, saving breakpoints, despite not having enough key first serves, as you said. I would be a big supporter of a silent Sabalenka too.
" Power tennis" is what AO wants. The new Dunlop balls sounded heavy when struck. Emma said they are heavy ( suggests they are heavier ). Most people would rather watch men's tennis for power tennis though.
Hell no. Sabalenka is smart. 51 winners! Rybakina is not top 5 as the double fault Queen: It has nothing to do with her serve. Her down turn was the handiest cap ever. She knew it would come back. She didn’t have the ground game to back it up. She needed more and found other ways to win. She believed in her overall game vision. Even when others doubter her. Relying on her serve only she would not have this huge skill set behind her. She literally double faulted like insane and still was top 5. She was WINNING despite not having her weapon. That allowed her to gain so much experience and skills to over come without her serve. Then it came back on, with her ground game.
@@rodayne2889 I'm actually the opposite. Rafa had amazing serves up to 210km/h in the summer of 2010, but then he went back to medium pace. These 2 women were impressive.
Surprised no one mentions Sabalenka's shrieking. As the great Martina Navratilova says, it's cheating. It deprives opponent the sound of the racket meeting the ball, which is one of things necessary to respond optimally.
I know that I'm picking at something completely irrelevant, but Rybakina's movement is miles better than Pliskova's. The way Karolina moves should be forever considered to be THE golden standard of atrocious movement. (Btw, I don't get why Pliskova gets a pass for that just because she's tall. Like come on, Elena Denentieva anybody? Or at least Venus Williams?)
When Elena voiced her displeasure in a post match interview about playing on outer courts after winning Wimbledon. She was also a big underdog against Iga (25% probability of winning) and bookies gave her ~5% chance of winning this title.
Match that makes you feel bad because you dont want any of them to loose. And probably the best women's match i watched
I’m just so happy for Sabalenka. You can tell she’s one of those players who wants it **so badly** and she finally achieved it. So feel-good.

It was a great Final,. Thoroughly enjoyed this Classic. Really happy for Sabalenka 🎉💐💐💐💪
What a final it was, like you said, unbelieavable…Rooting for Rybakina, but Sabalenka deserved!
Nerve wracking match and especially ending, so happy for Sabalenka
Thank heavens for a wonderful final. Both went for their shots. No one caved in after big leads. It stayed a very close contest. Aryna was the more courageous, and she was rewarded.
It was a great quality final! The power on some of Sabalenka's forehands was crazy.
Great analysis Gil as usual, really great final by both ladies. Super happy for Sabalenka she has come close so many times and normally chokes in the big moments but today she stayed incredibly tough and this was a well deserved victory.
2nd serve aces from Sabalenka. Very impressive
I really like Rybakina but man Sabalenka really earned it; I felt so happy for her :)

Great match - I like how she tossed in some doubles early, and didn’t crack …got more confident and really dictated from the back of the court
Thanks so much for covering the women. I would love to see more of this on your channel.

Great analysis
SUCH a great match up!
Great match! And great to see you cover more women tennis, Gill👌👏
I wasn’t rooting for Saba in the beginning but to see her win a Slam and all the noticeable improvements she made convinced me otherwise.
So happy for Sabalenka. She absolutely deserved this one.
It's funny that she started the Match with a Double Fault. I was thinking:" Oh Oh, are we going to see the Old Sabalenka"? Fortunately not. 17 Aces!
Love the analysis on the second serve here. Really great video Gill!
After that terrible first set,Sabalenka regrouped wonderfully
Definitely didn't think she would manage it
Amazing final!
After many years women tennis again very interesting what a final and Sabalenka was great in 2 and 3 set
I appreciate your work very much.
Makes me want to watch the match.
Amazing and emotional match

Neither of them are excellent movers.

HAPPY FOR SAB, SAD FOR RYB!!!
What about the coach factor, to stay fully loose: should Elena finally tell her coach to vuk-ov?
"Felt enough pain", looks like line lifted from Nadal😀
Thx!

I like both of them..
When did gill gross started covering women's matches ?
Since the women on both sides started serving as fast as men :) At least, faster than Rafa😋
@@zetristan4525 tf does rafa have anything to do this, lmao? so random, and so obvious that ur another ignorant fan

When did the narrative start about Rybankina not getting the 'respect" she deserved for winning Wimbledon? Seems to have just came out of nowhere.
Her court assignments mostly.

Rybakina definitely has not received the respect , that she deserves, for winning Wimbledon
I don't see anything special about Rybakina's game apart from her powerful serve.
Must have been watching a different match! 51 winners, blasting the ball like it owed her money
