What's bad is that these regulations will mostly hurt the companies that actually care about the product. Companies that specialize in pipe tobacco, those who will spend hours crafting great blends, will get hit the hardest while cigarette and "gas station" cigar manufactures will take the hit and be just fine.
Whatever is out there is it. They already finished tinning everything they had in stock. It's all done. The doors have been closed. Thank you government for destroying yet another business 😠 But lets give the McNiels a huge round of applause and thanks for the many years and hard work they have put into their product. Sweet smokes amigo 😎
Very Sad day for Virginia lovers! McClelland will be missed greatly. Not all news is good news. A moment of silence for all of our great favorite McClelland blends.
Hi John. I was holding back my lamentation because I didn't want to sound like a fluff, but truth be know, I'm devastated. I'm personally not much of a Virginia smoker, but Frog Morton Cellar was (and is) my all-time favorite blend. There is not another blend that can touch that blend in my opinion. The closest would be a Dunhill English, and you know they have stopped producing as well. I'm sorry, brother.
Anthony Adams Sorry for you as well. McClellands 5100 Red Cake was my favorite blend. They have been out for a while. So I have been trying to find something similar. I have been smoking Sutliffs Red Ribbon very close but not the same. But am getting used to it. You may want to try GL Pease they have a lot of Latakia blends to choose from. Never acquired a taste for the Latakia. Good luck finding something you truly enjoy! May all your smokes be dry and cool.
Just wanted to let you know you have taken my pipe experience to a new level. Just binged watched your channel and found a wealth of info. I ordered a savinelli porto servo 122 and when it came in I was real happy. I love my bull dogs but this is a game changer. Much lighter and bigger bowl. A all day smoke for me.
hey, just ordered my first pipe and searching youtube tutorials i found your channel and i have to say its the best, thanks for all the informative videos i know a LOT about pipe smoking now and i havent received my first one yet haha, greetings from Uruguay
I literally just came home yesterday with my first ever Frog Morton since I am just starting out in pipes. I LOVED it and now I see this. I hate the FDA interfering with the hobbies I enjoy.
The FDA is going after cigar manufacturers much more than pipe tobacco concerns. The real problem with the pipe tobacco industry is that Congress has cut the agricultural subsidies and ended price supports for tobacco farmers making farming unprofitable or barely profitable and forcing farmers to quit.
@@stockscalper cause cigar companies are not exactly a part of the big tobacco that can afford lobbying. They only go after the people that cannot afford to lobby.
maui dantuono - That’s great, I’m sad that they are gone, but after 40 years I bet there is a smidge of relief that they are able to retire, I wish them all the best. 👍👍👍
Dunhill and McClelland make my favorite blends. I have 15 tins of Dunhill Nightcap but I don’t even want to smoke it if I can’t replace it. Balkan Beauty is my absolute favorite blend, I only have 2 tins of it and no more of it can be bought. This is really sad!
Yeah, not to sound like a drama queen, but I am absolutely devastated by this news. I love Frog Morton Cellar so much that it is almost like a miracle medication for my stress levels. God I hope these pipe tobacco companies stop going out of business! I don't know if it is true or not, but one of my local tobacconists told me that cigarette companies are putting these pipe tobacco companies out. Again, that is one person's claim, so take it with a grain of salt. But, she is in the industry so she could possibly be correct.
The concern is for all the men and women that lost their jobs, I hope the best for you all! there will always be tobacco but a good job is hard to find! best of luck for you folks.
Matt, that is a side of it that I didn't even think about. Thank you for bringing that depth to the conversation; so important. I live in North Carolina, which has a tobacco-rich history. I've battled with cigarettes for years, and finally found the love of pipe tobaccos and now have to stress about their demise.
Matt Shaw yes that dimension also has to be kept in mind. This affects workers as much as consumers. Smoking for me is a pleasure and an interest, but for some it is their livelihood. The more pressure the industry faces, the harder it will be for those folks to redeploy and retrain into alternative work. Those still in work will be feeling under threat and wondering if they're next. We the community have a responsibility towards them as well.
I thought of that too. I have met the Mcneils at a pipe show before and they are great people. Just knowing that a Small American business has to close its doors due to the governments demands makes me upset. The little guy always gets F'd over
I smoke pipes since a year ago. I´ve just tried a few blends from them really appreciating them, Virginias and Orientals specially, and I arrived to the conclusion that I should buy mostly McClellands, and then this news. I was shocked wishing it was a bad joke. I guess I´ll have to move on and enjoy other blend while they are still available. Tobacco is the fragile part of this hobby/art. Sorry my English writing I´m from Argentina, Spanish native speaker. Greetings
Gonzalo, never mind that your English isn't perfect, it's great, and besides many of us can't even speak two different languages. As far as I am concerned, you are a fellow pipe smoker and brethren. I am disappointed by this news as well. I hope you (and I) are able to find other decent tobaccos to smoke.
Gonzalo Rodriguez Your English is good, don't worry too much about it. Sad to see McClelland go but I think you may like some of Cornell & Diehl and G.L. Pease blends. I really enjoy Black Frigate (english oriental) and Virginia Cream (aromatic)
Hey Muttnchop, I started smoking Erik Nording's Foxhound because you recommended it in your English rotation video. I absolutely loved it. I noticed that it is no longer available anywhere and I fear this is because it was McClelland tobacco. If so I'm very sad I only have about an ounce to last me an eternity. Do you have a replacement you could recommend?
Picked up 10 500g tins of various McClelland blends and 3 50g tins today at my local shop, I don't think word has spread fast yet, but i already see them doubled, tripled or quadrupled in price already on eBay. Go searching a stock up wherever you find it! 4 of the 10 were Bombay Court blend, so I'm congratulating myself on the victory by smoking that one tin. Gotta give you credit for bringing my attention to this crisis! Thanks!
Chris, what worries me, if another couple major tobacco companies decide to close up shop, the price of tobacco will go thru the roof. You have a real passion for all things relating to Pipes and Tobacco’s and it shows. I am proud to be one of your subscribers!
Hello Muttnchop, I would just like to thank you for sharing your knowledge. I just finished a bowl of my pipe and for the first time I did not get the taste of ash, thanks to the breathing method you taught. Your channel was decisive for me to venture into the flavors that pipe tobacco can offer. And even when I make mistakes, like smoking fast and having tongue bite, that does not discourage me because I know exactly what caused it. Maybe one day we'll meet to challenge you with my beast deck (magic) :-) . Thank you one more time.
Muttonchop, as I’ve mentioned in the comments in another video, I’m 28 and just started getting into pipe smoking a few months ago. I’ve been buying as much McC as I could. I have about 10 tins currently. I’ll try and buy some more in the coming months and I’ll probably have enough to last me several years but I know in time, I’ll run out. It’s sad to see the state in where the premium tobacco industry is headed and how general society links it to cover smoking. Hopefully, the others don’t disappear..
Good day, Sir. I have only recently began my pipe smoking journey, and have discovered your videos to be extremely informative, educational, and very helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and opinions. The Frog Morton’s On the Town blend was highly recommended by countless smokers, as well as you. Do you suggest a comparable tobacco for me, as a newcomer, to not only enjoy, but to break in a new pipe, as you suggested in a previous video? Thank you for your time.
I’m 60 and just started smoking pipes 6 months ago after smoking cigars for many years. Your videos helped me immensely and FM quickly became my go to blend. Funny how the government wants everyone smoking marijuana but hates tobacco. Look forward to all your videos. Thanks
Pretty soon we're all gonna be smoking grass clippings from the backyard, with the way things are going!! Nice job with this video, Chris! All the best!!
Well-said, Chris. Maybe we need to begin a non-profit tobacco clearinghouse that we can will our cellar contents to that is to be made accessible to younger pipe smokers for a nominal fee. As usual, I've learned something new and had the pleasure of visiting you. --Todd
Thank you I appreciate it. Also should I designate a particular pipe or pipes to just smoking the white knight tobacco and after I’ve built carbon cake could I smoke a different tobacco out of that pipe?
Maziar Vali - I have 8 pipes in my primary rotation, 7 for Non-Aromatics, and 1 for Aromatics, i Smoke all non Aromatic blends out of those 7 pipes, except for the really strong blends, for those I use a Corn Cob Pipe. And I only smoke Aromatics out of that 1 pipe. You can designate a pipe for each blend if you like. 👍👍👍
Putting this in perspective. I am a recent entrant to this hobby, so if I started this year I would be ignorant of this brand. Saying that and taking McClelland at their word, are quality tobaccos on their way out across the board? If they couldn't get quality leaf, then who can?
That's what worries me, 1 of 2 things, or probably both things will happen, the dedicated tobacco blending houses will close up shop because they don't want to scrimp on quality, others will get whatever tobacco they can, quality or no and continue to blend substandard pipe tobacco. either way, its not good for us. :( :( :(
Very sad day indeed. I have s question Chop. I recently bought a Savinelli 320 2016 Holiday pipe. It’s an estate pipe. I find the draw to be really tight. It’s definitely been thoroughly cleaned. There is nothing inside blocking the airway. I noticed you used to have this style of pipe. Did you find it to have a tighter draw? I have other Savinellis and they are not as tight a draw. Any insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Jack Knife - I didn’t notice a tight draw with any of my 320’s when I owned them, pull the pipe apart and run a regular pipe cleaner through first the stem, then one through the shank, the pipe cleaner should go through with little resistance, if it gets stuck, or it takes some effort to push the pipe cleaner through you may have a problem. This might be the reason whoever owned the pipe before you got rid of it. If you don’t have a pipe restorer in you area, call smokingpipes.com, see if they will take a look at it for you, they have a pretty good pipe restoration department. 👍👍👍
Muttnchop Piper thanks Chop! I actually got the pipe from smoking pipes.com. I tried your suggestion seemed to help some but still a stiff draw. I think I’ll give them a call.
Jack Knife - well if you got the pipe from them they will definitely make it right, just call tell them the problem, they will probably have you send it back so they can take a look at it, and fix it. 👍👍👍
I’m a relatively new pipe smoker and discovered Frog Morton cellar a couple weeks ago and it quickly became my favorite. Can anyone suggest a blend that would be similar? Thanks for reading guys.
that's going to be a problem Cellar was unique with the bourbon barrel wood added for flavor, it was a very unique blend, and there is nothing I know ok quite like it....sorry..
Production on Dunhill blends has already stopped. Stocks will last till the end of the year, so if you like one of these cellar as much as you can afford.
I bought a lot of Dunhill tins maybe six years ago when there were sales...Dunhill was unavailable in the early 2000's for about 3 yrs...then came back...then gone...Now back through Peterson. We'll see what the future brings.
Hey, man. I love your videos, and you're an excellent speaker. You really take your time and explain your ideas very clearly. I just got into the hobby not long ago, so it looks like I'm going to miss out on trying some of these. Are there any blends that are similar to some of the McClellan or Dunhill ones? Thanks for your time.
British Woods, Frog Morton, Frog Morton's Cellar, Blackwoods Flake are staples of mine. I honestly don't know what I'll replace them with once my reserves run out.
Thank you Sir for this video. I had no idea that this company was shutting down. I've only recently started trying different tobacco's but Frog Morton's in the Cellar is my favorite. I was able to purchase 5 - 100g tins which I plan to store while I work through other blends that I've yet to try. If not for your video I would have missed out. Grácias!!
Jess Steere - Aromatics Cellar fine, they just age differently, If you let Aromatics age the toppings will have a chance to penetrate the tobacco which in turn will enhance the flavor, one of the complaints about Aromatics is that the flavor burns off to soon and your left with an ashy tobacco taste, it’s less likely to happen with a tobacco that’s been Cellared. 👍👍👍
Muttnchop Piper Wow, really? I've definitely heard the opposite. Here's just one example: ruclips.net/video/Gj9YvzwM5fo/видео.html But if there is hope for cellaring Aromatics, I would really like to hear about it! Perhaps it could even warrant a video? There appears to be some controversy around this, so it might be nice to hear you weigh in!
Has anyone decided to pick up the blends since they have gone out of business? I appreciate Scandinavian Tobacco Group picking up Dunhill's legendary blends. I'd love to see GL Pease start blending the Frog Morton blends or maybe even Mac Baren.
Hey Muttnchop. Glad to read you’re well. I think a lot of us were wondering if everything was okay. Something I’ve noticed since meeting pipe smokers and watching those in the YTPC - you get attached to them. You and the other great ones become like close friends to many of us. We miss your advice, your stories and overall kindness. Looking forward to your next video. Peace.
Wise advice. I appreciate your shared sentiment, I've taken it to heart. When I have the budget, I'm definitely going to get myself some more pipe tobacco.
Muttnchop!! I will miss them for sure... That is my plan going forward hopefully the FDA won't be too bad but you just don't know... Good advice my friend take care see you soon be well
Can someone be a gentleman and point me to where I can get any of the ‘out on the town’ also muttonchop could you do a taste alike for out favorite blends we’ll be loosing? I didn’t stock up on any McClelland so I gotta find something else to fill the void. What would you suggest
Great video Muttnchop, as one of those young smokers it's distressing to know that the future of pipe smoking is uncertain. Certainly we will have plenty of European blends but it appears American Virginia's are on the way out. Can you recommend any American Virginia or VA/bur. Thanks again
After viewing this video I realized that i have two unopened tins of Frog Morton that I purchased about 4 or 5 years ago. One is Frog Morton Pipe Tobacco and the other is Frog Morton Cellar. I decided to put one on Ebay and start the bidding at $50 and in two days it jumped to $92. Unfortunately, Ebay deleted my listing because you apparently are not allowed to sell any tobacco on their site regardless of age or collectability.
I’m very upset to hear this... I really love 3 of their blends and have been smoking them for some time now and have a dedicated pipe for each. The blends I’m talking about are Frog Morton’s Cellar, Red Cake, and Mellow Mack... so now can anyone recommend similar blends to these, because once I run out (I have about a small mason jar of each blend 😭) I need something that I can smoke to replace these in my daily rotation that will marry well with my already seasoned pipes.. thanks
Cool. I will try it. I need to find a comparable replacement. Thank you so much. Also maybe an idea for a video based on the discontinuation of these tobaccos maybe you can do a video about similar substitutions. Thanks so much bud.
I just got to try Mclelland for the first time (my favorite b&ma's manager gave me about 2 bowls of easy street and 1928 from his cellar) and it breaks my heart...in the almost 2 years ive been pipe smoking...this is the smoothest nicest quality tobacco ive ever had
I just bought my first pipe and was really looking forward to trying out Frog Morton's Cellar which I've been hearing about for months. Oh well...What would you say is a good substitute/replacement blend?
craaazyish - There is non, that’s the trouble. I have done a video called my favorite blends of all time, all the blends on that list are solid, and I think you will like whichever one you choose. 👍👍👍
sorry it took so long to answer, technical difficulties, most people do not inhale pipe tobacco, but I have known some ex cigarette smokers who do if you have never smoked before I would suggest you don't inhale, but it is a personal choice.
First i got to say i respect mcclelland for just closing the doors and not trying to put out product thats not up to ours or their expectation. Second here we are 5 or 6 months later after mcclelland closed their doors has anything changed in the fight against the fda? I know petitions were signed and fights were being organized but has any good news come about?
Dustin Pittman - Been looking into it, all I can discover is it looks like the testing and certification of blends has been put off until 2020, and the grandfather date was moved to 2016, other then that all is moving forward. 👍👍👍
I hope you heave enough time left to actually smoke all of your stock :) I'm watching your videos in the evenings last few days. Great content and a lot of interesting information to share. Thank you! McClelland here in Poland was hard to get and now I'm afraid I will never have a chance to try it. Sad news indeed.
As I understand it, this new regulation makes it difficult to create new blends, etc. However, I do not understand how this impacts the quality of the tobacco produced for those blends that are grandfathered. Perhaps I don't understand the regulation or am unaware of another.
I heard that the bulk is all out. There is still some reserves waiting to be tinned. I hope the tinned tobaccos will be restocked, but I don't know which or how much .
The bigger picture is this panic mindset that occurs when people perceive a “loss” of a “necessity”. Just wait until it’s food & water that’s running low...the you’ll see some crazies. Me? Just adapt and adjust. If I run out of baccy, it won’t kill me. I’m actually thinking of trying my hand at growing some. There’s always another way. Cheers, Mark
HoosierPiper - You are right my friend, my mind Set is this, if I can get my hands on some at normal tin prices $10.00 then I will pick some up, if not, then I will adjust and move on, pipe tobacco is not a necessity, your right, but it’s nice to have blends you like. 👍👍👍
Very, very sad news.I only discovered the glorious Mc Clelland virginias, grand orientals and more, two years ago.And suddenly all is over.My Holy grails finished by the hand of New Inquisition. The Balkan Sobranie was a battle lost but this is a war lost.Only remains hate and blaming myself for not ordering more tins of this wonderful brand, rest in peace.Let´s enjoy the cellar and never ever forget or forgive the people that killed Mc Clelland.Trully this is a black day for the pipe community. At less on this side of the pond we have learned from you, americans, the healthy habit of cellaring.Greetings,I don´t know if this word is appropiated today, from Spain.Take care,my friend.
FDA ruins people’s fun again. I started smoking pipes a few months after this happened, so I never got to experience any of their blends, so highly recommended by so many. I do see people selling them sealed on ebay, so might have to splurge one day. Would you say it’s worth spending $50 or so on a 100g tin?
Scored a tin of FM Cellar about a week ago, just to try. I probably got one of the last ones from P&C, they were out of stock on all other FM flavors. No need to sit on this one, I'll crack it open and try it soon. Oh well. New pipe smoker and I haven't built up a stock of anything yet.. I guess I better get busy.
I have a quick question because I'm skeptical. I've placed an order with three or four different tobacco companies online and received all my pipe tobacco products with no questions. I made a purchase yesterday that smoking pipes.com and they keep asking me for my government ID preferably my driver's license with my picture. Is this normal procedure for this particular company? The reason I'm asking is none of the other companies that I purchased from online have asked me for that information my reason for skepticism is it has my driver's license number on it and there's a lot of things you can do with that information. They're wanting it so they can put it in a database required by the FDA for verification reasons. If I'm overreacting a little bit please let me know, if this is just normal procedure . Thanks in advance.
Jimmie Rhoden - Up to now, no I have not encountered this before, but, that being said, I think smokingpioes.com is trying to get ahead of the curve, there is going to be a requirement by the FDA that all online tobacco companies must verify the age of the purchaser before selling that individual any tobacco products. The data base will be secure, plus all companies will be required to do this eventually. 😒😒😒
Muttnchop Piper , please forgive me if I'm out of line. I looked through all your videos and maybe I overlooked a video you made that shows how. I ordered some bolt tobacco to ounces at the time of four or five different blends to get me started on my new hobby. My question is this I'm wanting to take them out of the Ziplock bags and put them in the mason jars, should I pack it tight or should I put it in a bigger mason jar and leave it loose? I don't want to ruin my tobacco. Thanks for any advice. And I'm so sorry if this is not the form in which to ask these questions.
Jimmie Rhoden - never be sorry my friend, I don’t mind answering questions. Here is how I do it, I fill my canning jar to the top, pack it tight, then fill it again, pack it tighter, then fill it for the 3rd time, pack it tight when you put the lid on. There should be anywhere from no gap to an 1/8 Of an inch gap, the put it away until you are ready to smoke it. 👍👍👍
Hello Sir, I just bought frog Morton cellar last week, I got 100 g like by coincidence. I had no idea about the closing door the announced. Based on your experience, what do you recommend to get a tobacco that is similar to frog Morton cellar?
This is honestly terrible news. It makes me wonder what are he regulations for growing tobacco privately... Muttnchop... a new video perhaps? Regulations on privately growing tobacco? I will be sure to stock up as much as I can, despite my youthful age of 21. Muttnchop, could you sometime make a video of all the different types of tobacco lighters, and which ones you prefer and why? I think that would be super helpful and informative. I haven’t found one of your videos that covers that, and I apologize if I looked over it.
Here in canada i can grow as much tobacco as i want but i can't sell it i will be getting my grandpa to teach me as the government wants to do this then ill have "gifts" for everyone and if you feel like donating feel free ;) loop holes gotta love them i want to make cigars to its very calming for me to grow the plant and try the hard work might start a new trend in the pipe community we just need to buy the recipes off the guys that close their doors then make them free for everyone to see.
Well thank you very much for the replies. I truly wish all of you the very best, and that seems like a bit of an interesting loophole with growing. Say for instance, I grow a specific type of tobacco that was deemed (this would not happen) to have 2X the amount of nicotine, and greatly increases your risk of tongue cancer (again, an example). So the FDA says they don’t want that to be available to the mass market, BUT you can still GROW it for yourself and smoke it all you want? That doesn’t make a right bit of sense. Any other ideas with this?
M chop you are the man. Love the vids man. Very resourceful for a newbie piper like myself. I have been spending way too much on pipes and tobacco and still loving it. Question thought.....is Frog Morton Cellar worth spending over $100 usd for or is it better to reside to the fact that I missed that era and spend that money on quality tobaccos now and building my own cellar stocks.
Drew Whitelaw - NO!!!! It is not worth $100.00, don’t get me wrong, it’s a good tobacco, but if I had the choice to spend $100.00 dollars on 1 tin, or building my Cellar stock, the Cellar would win out every time. Might I suggest you look at my video, “My Favorite Tobacco Blends” if you need suggestions, some of those tobacco’s you can’t get anymore, but most you can, all those tobacco’s are quality blends in my opinion, and are diverse enough to give you a wide range of taste. 👍👍👍
when smoking a pipe is it supposed to be inhaled or not I hear one say yes and I hear either so no, I am a new pipe smoker and lately I haven’t been inhaling it, so far I really enjoyed it a lot better than smoking e-cigarette‘s and other tobacco, Plus it’s a lot cheaper
Sorry for the late response, technical difficulties. I personally do not inhale, but I have heard ex cigarette smokers do. Its really a personal choice, if you have never smoked before I would not recommend it, otherwise its your choice my friend.
Wow that's sad news indeed! Question: how can you know if the cellared Frog Morton will be good in 10 years? I understand that especially Latakia wears off after a couple of years...
BenMearsFromTheLot - I did a video called “Cellaring Tobacco, why it’s so important” if you get a chance, watch that video, it will explain what effect cellaring or age has on pipe tobacco. Plus Latakia wearing off is a myth, yes it mellows but it also deepens the blend giving it a more aged flavor. 👍👍👍
Muttnchop Piper thank you for your answer Chris. I understand the effect that ageing or cellaring has on tobacco but I was just wondering if this effects all of them positively. Love your videos by the way Chris, thank you for sharing them!
I’m ordering tins tonight! Plus some bags of Pipeworks since Carole may retire from blending! I have 5 tins of McC’s! I gotta cellar more for my sons! I told them we could smoke together one day. Hopefully we can share the classics!
Most of the time Chris I enjoy your videos but not so much this one but I do appreciate McClelland’s integrity and your honesty. Start the muttonchop ytpc blenders club? Thanks for taking the time to sit down and have a chat with us. Sincerely GW, keep your lighter full and your ember lit, Au Revoir
Very sad indeed! Frog Morton's Cellar was the first English blend I tried and now it's gone along with all the rest of the Frog Morton series, Drama Reserve, 5100 red cake, Blackwoods flake etc...all huge losses for me and pipe smokers worldwide. There are still great companies and great blends out there but like you said, which one will be the next to go? I'll continue to cellar whatever favorites that I can get my hands on and feel fortunate to have those blends for as long as they last.
Yeah. Here I am, watching this in 2019 and I have my first ever pipe on the way... ordered. Brand new to pipe smoking. None of this rare stuff for me. I wouldn't have gotten it anyway perhaps, since I'm not in the US.... But still
@@Lycosa I haven't smoked in 6 years... Today I decided to come back to the hobby to find this. Lucky me, I have two tins of MC that I stored before taking my hiatus.
New pipe smoker, have a nice long-stemmed church warden... I'm too new to really be effected, which is a good thing... but I confess a certain melancholy, I had wanted to try some Frog Morton's Cellar. I heard many good things about it. Recommend everyone hang onto their tins, will almost certainly become collector's items.
McClelland was its worst enemy. They went far to big with far to many blends. They had 234+ blends. Most of which were blah, overly thick flakes and aromatics that were tasteless. Sure they had some real winners, but far to many that didn’t sell as good as they had hoped. I’m sorry to see them go but I saw this coming about five years ago. R. I. P. Side note; it’s also exceedingly hard to compete with Africa, Mexico, and South American tobacco. High quality, low price, and an abundance of it. Will C&D succumb? I sure hope not.
graycloud057 - I tend to agree, maybe if they had reduced the amount of blends they were selling to say 100, they might have survived. C&D Is backed I think by smokinpipes.com, I have been to their factory, it’s connected, and sits right behind smokingpipes, so I think they might be ok, but they aught to think about reducing blends as well. 👍👍👍
Sure, the news does seem very suddenly..however for all those of us who do not live in USA, the vast majority of pipe smokers in the world, even if we are not as loud on RUclips, it doesn't matter, we have never had any Mclelland any way, never even seen it outside RUclips. Dunhill however is a global brand and impacts a lot of us. But RUclips does have a tendency to make it seem very important to more than a small fraction of pipe smokers. However, for the Americans, it is a loss, ofcourse, no doubt.
Heyyy Chris i agree with you 100% about the companies and thats what i was saying the hand writing is on the wall the FDA is trying to kill the tobacco industry. Every month im setting aside a few dollers to buy tin that i love and those id like to try. Thanks for the advice. My friend take care 😃😃😃😃😃👍👍👍👍👍 best regards peter.
Sad news indeed. I reviewed my cellar this morning. I think I have a lifetime supply. Maybe not all my favorites but a nice and varied selection for years to come. The TAD of the summer of 2016 paid off. Take care.
Sound Dude - I am in the same situation, I have enough of my favorite blends to last me the rest of my life, I just rounded out my Cellar by purchasing 8 tins of Dunhill Elizabethan mixture, and 2 tins of Dunhill Ye olde sign. 👍👍👍
As a UK citizen and a to be new pipe smoker I really wanted to try Frog Morton, If 4noggins gets some more in I may just have to buy some, sadly I don't think it will.
I am just beside myself over this. They are by far my favorite company period. I didn't know about this until yesterday and i am not financially able to keep a giant cellar of tobacco. I have nothing mcclleland. I am super sad. It just sucks real bad. Something needs to be done here.
Well, this is disappointing. Just picked up a tin of Frog Morton's Cellar at Teepee Smoke Shop traveling through the AZ/NM state line. Wish I would have bought more when I had the chance. If anyone is in the area, I think they still have a good amount of Frog Morton's tins left at the time of this writing.
I’ve only smoked a pipe for about 3 months now, unfortunately frog Morton cellar was my very favorite so far and I only have half of my first tin left... sad day..
Man, this is really sad for me, I just got into pipe smoking in October and haven't had a chance to try any of their blends yet, guess I might not get the chance at all.
Thank you government for destroying yet another business 😠
But lets give the McNiels a huge round of applause and thanks for the many years and hard work they have put into their product.
Sweet smokes amigo 😎
Upon AstariKnight - I agree completely my friend. 😢😢😢
*Laughs in 2021. Lets go Brandon!
@@williamd1891 Agreed!
Cellaring your favorite blends is always solid advice. Tobacco will likely never be cheaper or more available than it is today.
Pipe Miner - You are right about that my friend. 👍👍👍
John Ferguson - Very sad. 😢😢😢
Amen brother. Hats off and head bowed to the greatest Virginia blenders❤❤❤❤😞😞😞😞😞😞
Not only a moment.Long years of lamentation wait us.
Greybeard Hiking - That’s good to hear my friend, I think the 122 Porto Cervo Pot is beautiful. I’m glad you are getting the info you need. 👍👍👍
hey, just ordered my first pipe and searching youtube tutorials i found your channel and i have to say its the best, thanks for all the informative videos i know a LOT about pipe smoking now and i havent received my first one yet haha, greetings from Uruguay
Matias Gabriel - Thank you very much for your kind words, and your a prime example why I started my channel. 👍👍👍
I literally just came home yesterday with my first ever Frog Morton since I am just starting out in pipes. I LOVED it and now I see this. I hate the FDA interfering with the hobbies I enjoy.
iwantmovies87 - I do as well my friend. 😒😒😒
Spoke to Mary yesterday, great conversation , wished her and Mike the best.....
maui dantuono - That’s great, I’m sad that they are gone, but after 40 years I bet there is a smidge of relief that they are able to retire, I wish them all the best.
Shrek - I have 6 cans of Nightcap, and 10 of EMP, saving them for special occasions. 👍👍👍
Many thanks for the update - you always keep us informed!
Matt Shaw - I agree my friend, thanks for posting this comment. 👍👍👍
The little guy always gets F'd over
So obama clinton and bush still get to.smoke. cubans.and snort escobars finest while we are left with monsanto gmo leaves
Any hope they will pick it back up?
Thank you for this information and advice Sir.
Gonzalo Rodriguez - your English is fine, thanks for your comment. 👍👍👍
Thanks Anthony!! And I´m sure we will
Thanks for the advice Kiri! I´ll take those blends in acount!
Excellent vid Chris. Thanks a lot. Have a great week.
Challenger Dart - Thank you my friend. 👍👍👍
McClellan had several of my favorites. Terrible news. Why is my gov so worthless.
Jason F - because they are more interested in lining their own pockets instead of make our lives more enjoyable to live. 😖😖😖
Is there a close second to FM cellar or any others? I never had the pleasure.
Wondering if there will be bigger consolidations like what Peterson did buying Dunhill blends.
It is a very sad day. I am a frog morton on the town big fan. I love Dunhill's Nightcap too. Can you recomend another tobacco similar to frog morton?
Fred J. Neslage Jr. - thanks for your kind words my friend, and I am concerned as well, let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. 😒😒😒
Such disturbing times we live in.
heiðinn - Yes it is, disturbing and sad. 😢😢😢
I have several house blends at my local brick-n-mortar store that I enjoy. I’m wondering how the new regs will effect them.
Hello Muttnchop,
I would just like to thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Ricardo Rabello - You bet my friend, I’m glad I was able to help. 👍👍👍
i get from usa the first frog morton, because in italy i can't find it in italy.
shame... it was wonderful...
i'm 30... i hope in the future
Hopefully, the others don’t disappear..
elton rivera - let’s hope my friend, I also hope other stronger tobacco companies move in to pick up the companies that have closed their doors. 👍👍👍
Bryan Smith - Yes, Hearth and Homes White Knight , or G.L. Pease Maltese Falcon. 👍👍👍
Thank You again. 👌
Sgt. Savinelli Yep. 😢😢😢
Well-said, Chris. Maybe we need to begin a non-profit tobacco clearinghouse that we can will our cellar contents to that is to be made accessible to younger pipe smokers for a nominal fee. As usual, I've learned something new and had the pleasure of visiting you. --Todd
LA Pipe Smoker - Thanks Todd, and not a bad idea. 👍👍👍
What would be good alternative in place of Frog Morton’s Out on the Town?
Maziar Vali - Hearth and Homes White Knight. 👍👍👍
Thanks for the video, sad sad day for us pipers. Be well Muttonchop.
Rovey 88 - Yes it is my friend, yes it is. 😢😢😢
Can u suggest a Frog Morton's tobacco alternative that comes close to the Frog series? Never tried FM and want to, as a newbie to pipe smoking
I'm sorry, there really is nothing like it that I know of, maybe another club member will have an idea. :( :( :(
Production on Dunhill blends has already stopped. Stocks will last till the end of the year, so if you like one of these cellar as much as you can afford.
Ruben Scheer - Good advice my friend. 👍👍👍
Stench Trench - I would suggest G.L. Pease Westminster. 👍👍👍
sad, what would you recommend as a replacement for out on the town?
Chagrin Valley-Web - you might try Hearth and Home White Knight, to me they are pretty close. 👍👍👍
thanks Muttnchop Piper, unfortunately every where I look for that tobacco it is back ordered. any other thoughts?
So what are we gonna do for August's Blend Club?
Paul Allan - Good question, I’ll think on it and get back to you. 👍👍👍
Guess I'll add this one alongside Nightcap and Early Morning Pipe to the list of blends I really want to try but never will.
Grácias!!
Muttonchop, what would you suggest if most of what I like is aromatics? I hear those don't cellar very well.
CounterNerd - Sounds good my friend. 👍👍👍
Muttnchop!! I will miss them for sure... That is my plan going forward hopefully the FDA won't be too bad but you just don't know... Good advice my friend take care see you soon be well
Pipes And kayaks - Thanks buddy. 👍👍👍
When is someone going to match Old Dog?
Can someone please tell me some similar blends to frog Morton on the town and frog Morton cellar? I love those blends!
The blends I’m talking about are Frog Morton’s Cellar, Red Cake, and Mellow Mack... so now can anyone recommend similar blends to these, because once I run out (I have about a small mason jar of each blend 😭) I need something that I can smoke to replace these in my daily rotation that will marry well with my already seasoned pipes.. thanks
Truly devastating news. As my favorites were becoming the Virginia's from McClelland. What is your recommendation for another Virginia tobacco?
Jedi Leatherwood - I really like peter Stokkabye luxury twist Flake. 👍👍👍
That's the way it usually goes, the one tobacco you can't get ends up being one of the best you have ever had.
Hi all. Wanted to get into pipe smoking, was unsure if you inhale pipe tobacco or hit it like a cigar? Thank you in advance
sorry it took so long to answer, technical difficulties, most people do not inhale pipe tobacco, but I have known some ex cigarette smokers who do if you have never smoked before I would suggest you don't inhale, but it is a personal choice.
Muttnchop Piper thank you for the courteous response. I am an ex cigarette smoker hence the confusion. Much obliged sir!
Thanks for your advice!
rtp737 - You bet my friend. 👍👍👍
Hope you are doing well, not heard from you for the past month. Cheers.
Jeff Loy - Yes. 👍👍👍
I quit smoking and have a bunch of dunhill and McClellan blends do you know how I could go about selling them.?
Ebay or Facebook pipe groups
Scored a tin of FM Cellar about a week ago, just to try. I probably got one of the last ones from P&C, they were out of stock on all other FM flavors. No need to sit on this one, I'll crack it open and try it soon. Oh well.
New pipe smoker and I haven't built up a stock of anything yet.. I guess I better get busy.
God bless the FDA... meanwhile McDonalds keeps adding more and more chemicals to their food and the FDA gives them a hug and a warm cup of chocolate.
just my - You got it, 😡😡😡
I have a quick question because I'm skeptical.
Sad news indeed..Do you have a profile in tobacco reviews?
Good advice. Thanx! All the best... ✌️
Pipes, etc. - You are welcome my friend. 👍👍😢
Indeed Dunhill tobaccos are no longer produced either, I have it straight from the horse's mouth, as they say.
Rowan I'm very interested to hear about this as well.
BenMearsFromTheLot - You bet my friend, and from what I have experienced, I think it does. 👍👍👍
Muttnchop Piper 😀 thank you Chris! Keep those videos coming, really enjoying them👌
How sad to hear Chris, Government out of control! Just went to smoking pipes and most of blends are sold out!
Glen M - Yes they are, sad, no, it’s tragic, I hope we don’t see any other companies fall by the wayside. 😢😢😢
Just said that very thing in my video. A lot easier to build over time than to have to try to edge in on the crazy avalanche of purchasing
Colin Kelly - You got it, I suggested doing this 1 1/2 years ago, better to build over time, you are so right my friend. 👍👍👍
I’m ordering tins tonight! Plus some bags of Pipeworks since Carole may retire from blending! I have 5 tins of McC’s! I gotta cellar more for my sons! I told them we could smoke together one day. Hopefully we can share the classics!
Kelii Yamashita - Sounds like a sound idea. 👍👍👍
Wow, this in INSANE news. Holy moly.
Timothy Woodin - tragic my friend truly tragic. 😖😖😖
Birdseyebriar - I understand my friend, I didn’t particularly like making this one as well. 😏😏😏
To arms! To arms! So how realistic is it to try and blend my own match?
Very sad indeed! Frog Morton's Cellar was the first English blend I tried and now it's gone along with all the rest of the Frog Morton series, Drama Reserve, 5100 red cake, Blackwoods flake etc...all huge losses for me and pipe smokers worldwide. There are still great companies and great blends out there but like you said, which one will be the next to go? I'll continue to cellar whatever favorites that I can get my hands on and feel fortunate to have those blends for as long as they last.
OneRingMitten - I am with you my friend. 👍👍👍
This makes me very sad. I'm a new pipe smoker, and I guess I'll never get to try those amazing blends. ☹
70's Smooth - It is very sad. 👍👍👍
@@pipemartz Cool. I have my very first pipe coming to me, on the way. We'll see what pipe tobacco I can get
New pipe smoker, have a nice long-stemmed church warden... I'm too new to really be effected, which is a good thing... but I confess a certain melancholy, I had wanted to try some Frog Morton's Cellar. I heard many good things about it. Recommend everyone hang onto their tins, will almost certainly become collector's items.
Very true my friend, and I am sorry you were never able to try it. :( :( :(
McClelland was its worst enemy.
Well Dunhill, which you just reviewed, has also stopped production.
Noooo i cant read this first thing i wake up :(
LackadaisicalE - Yes but that’s been coming for a while, McClelland on the other hand, bam, it’s over. 😢😢😢
However, for the Americans, it is a loss, ofcourse, no doubt.
lackadaiscalE get off your high horse and worry about your own country. no body really cares about overrated dunghill
me included kidd0, it was meant as a service announcement for those that do care. And plenty do.
Words of wisdom as usual, cheers Muttnchop!!
Canadian Piper 604 - Thank you my friend. 👍👍👍
Lewis - it’s unlikely. 😢😢😢
I’ve only smoked a pipe for about 3 months now, unfortunately frog Morton cellar was my very favorite so far and I only have half of my first tin left... sad day..
Andrew Truax - Very, very sad day. 😢😢😢
Man, this is really sad for me, I just got into pipe smoking in October and haven't had a chance to try any of their blends yet, guess I might not get the chance at all.
iBurley - see if there is a brick and mortar tobacconist near you, they may still have some in stock. 👍👍👍
Definitely sad news ☹️ thanks for the video 👍🏻 peace from Welland Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
WHITEFORD PIPES HANDMADE By Michael David - You bet my friend. 👍👍👍
