    Please make more Vietnamese salad dishes. Such as Lotus shoots with prawns and or boiled pork belly. Cabbage chicken salad etc . Thank you so much Marion. I also love that you include the country’s name to the dishes.

    Hi Marion! I’m Vietnamese, married to a Dutch/German Caucasian man. He doesn’t eat Vietnamese food (sad, but I love him regardless), and I adore Viet food. This looks absolutely yummy! I can’t wait to make it. I live in Southern California and there are many Viet supermarkets 1/2 hour north of us. Will shop for the ingredients to make soon.
    Btw, I started to binge watch your other videos and am loving all your recipes thus far. I looked for your cookbook, but I can’t find it anywhere. Suggestions? Thanks.
    Lastly, just found out your birthday is 9/29! So is mine, but 1974. Blessings from the US!

    With that sauce recipe, you can use mung bean sprouts, cabbage, green mango, carrot,... or mix together,... & with any kind of salad... That's the popular sauce recipes of Vietnamese salads. That salad you can mix it with boiled shrimp + boiled pork belly, boiled chicken, dried beef, dried squid, grilled fish, dried shrimp, ... or with BBQ....

      @doodahgurlie 3 года назад +1

      Just swap out the papaya for unripe mango or use thinly sliced cabbage combined with shredded carrots. You can also make the very thinly sliced cucumber version, too. Peel and cut the cucumber in half along the length, de-seed it, then very thinly slice it. Toss salt on it for about 15-30 minutes, then rinse it off and squeeze out excess water.

      They're called chili horns or horn peppers. You can buy seeds to grow yourself so just google it. There are multiple varieties with cow horn and goat horn peppers being the most popular. Goat horn peppers are a little milder but this variety of peppers are not very spicy anyway. Good luck!

      You can use unripe mangoes! it would be slightly tangier/sourer, but the texture would be similar and it fits right in with the sauce :)

    • @JoyJonas

      Although fish sauce has a unique flavor profile and there is no substitute, you can add a touch of tamarind paste and a little soy sauce. The Spruce Eats says that 'tamarind has a "complex flavor profile," especially when it's concentrated. It's sweet but sour, citrus-y but peppered with notes of "smoke and caramel." so it will add more complexity and mystery than soy sauce alone.
