    I am a new Client Advisor for BMW. I was taught from a very young age to never judge a book by its cover. In the area I’m in, some of the wealthiest people would never think to present themselves as “wealthy”. Therefore, anyone who comes to the dealership is going to receive the same treatment from me. You never know. 🤷🏼‍♀️

      Same here. I'm also a new client advisor. We do not have the UP system the older guys already have established customer bases. So I get basically everyone who walks on the lot and some phone ups and internet leads.

    ....after visited three BMW dealerships, I finally bought my brand new fully loaded G30 w/ xDrive and M Sport package at the fourth dealership. The salesperson, sales manager, and the F&I manager provided a good sales/customer experience. BTW, I was wearing my favorite Old Navy fleece top, khaki pants and the “no name” brand sneakers to purchase my $75K+ luxury/sport vehicle.

    It could be regional my local BMW dealership treated me great and I bought my car from an Independent foreign car lot. I believe it is management that dictates how you are treated, granted there are a ton of tire kickers but they eventually buy cars, so every tire kicker is a potential customer down the road and should be treated as such. great video and topic.

    I recently purchased a 2020 M340i at BMW N. Scottsdale. Walked in with my workout wear. Kinda smelly and spent. 3 hours later I traded my 2019 Camaro SS for a $65K loaded M340i. No judgements they just wanted a deal. Don’t know what else to tell you?

      @@ECPP Agree. Perhaps, its because AutoNation owns the BMW, MBenz, Audi, LandRover, and Ferrari boutiques in that venue. The employees seem to be more gregarious than at smaller indie dealerships. I'm glad you had a good experience there!

    I don't think this is a system wide procedure but I can see how this might happen. My Dealer in Western New York (Towne BMW) is fantastic. I never dress up and I almost always have my 5 year old daughter with me (who is always eating her crackers and cheese lol) and everyone is friendly to me. The first time I came, my salesman Scott (who I eventually bought car from) came up to me on the certified used lot when I was dressed very casually, had someone bring keys to me and told me to take it for a spin and come see him when i got back. I never even set foot in the building and I was behind the wheel. I bought a 328I from him a week later (the same one I test drove). Guess what, when I am ready for another one, I am calling Scott. Successfully salespeople need to learn that there is no such thing as a typical BMW buyer and often times the people who can most afford to spend money often appear casual when not in formal setting I have to dress for work all week long, I am not going to wear my suit or navy sport coat to buy a car on the weekend. If this is happening at some dealers, BMW needs to step up its game with training and monitoring their dealers better.

    • @ECPP
      @ECPP  5 лет назад

      For sure it is not a systemic issue and one dealer can be a PITA and the next is very obliging. I can tell you that I have seen dramatic changes in a local BMW dealer just by swapping out top management. These issues often start at the top.

    Maybe you're on the BMW radar due to your vids? In the late 70's i worked at a Texaco gas station and i knew a middle aged customer who owned a furniture/woodworking business and he was breaking in his Son from the ground floor so the son was always full of woodchips, etc. but looking for a MB and there happened to be a dealership down the street, the Son went down one day and was looking in the lot not in the showroom but no salesman came out so he went somewhere else and bought a new MB. I guess the salesmen were so used to dealing with guys in suits they ignored young guy with dungarees covered in woodchips, bottom line was the dealer lost a sale and also service for not even going over and ASKING if he wanted help of ANY kind.

    People's money is all they give a shit. It's all about money. Next time, act like an asshole when you are in the BMW dealer. It worked for me. After waiting for 6 months for a M5 test drive, I decided to tell them if they dont let me drive a M5 then I will tell people to buy the BMW somewhere else. I was an asshole and knew it's not worth greeting in there. You guys should do the same.

    OMG! That totally happened to us as well. We actually had an appointment set up at BMW and they didn’t even come out for an hour. What infuriated us was they sold the used car that we there for right out from under us. The other person signed the paperwork as we waited. Also, they did try to sell us one of their new BMWs. Needless to say, their deal fell through and five days later they drove the car to our house. We were so mad that we refused to work with that sales person after that. Funny. Your video gives us a lot of insight. Thanks for making this video. Heidi

    Funny enough, but in Europe, I had the exact opposite experience. Where other dealers were not interested in me, because i don't walk in nicely dressed and still am quite young, the only dealer who did any effort to sell me a car, and took all the time for it, was at BWM. I think I went back 3 or 4 times before I bought it. Always got an appointment, was helped as quickly as possible. Walked out with a 3 series. Never been happier. That car is a dream.

    Hello, btw I love what your doing with all your videos keep up the good work. I will be buying an e60 m5 soon. Looking forward to being part of this club. I sold cars for about 4 years and I know sales ppl profile potential customers all the time. Here in Los Angeles the car market is huge and many dealers don't keep sales ppl that conduct themself in that way. But if I were you I would pull up in your Lambo one day and see if they treat you different. Just to see if it's your look or is thier style of sales that may be coming from management, although I dought it. Let us know if you do the Lambo drive up.

    Took my 18yr old BMW into Stevens Creek BMW to get the airbag replaced under a recall and was in the market for an M3. I was approached by one of their sales people and once he found out that I had a 18yr old BMW in for service, he turned around mid-sentence and never came back. I walked through the new and used car lots for about 2.5 hours and was never approached again. I wanted to test drive a used M3 and had to request a test drive through Cars.com, no joke! About 30min later the sales person that handles Internet sales met me in the lobby and I was able to get a test drive. I explained what happened and he apologized on behalf of the dealership.
    The other problem that I believe is true for the SF Bay Area BMW dealerships, is that they rather let a sale walk if you try to negotiate anything more than $3k off the MSRP since there is someone making a $hit ton of money that will pay full price for an M product. Well good for them. I negotiated $10K off MSRP at an out of state dealer and flew in and picked up a new M3. When I returned back to Stevens Creek BMW to do my 1200 mile service, quite a few people at the dealership asked me why I didn't buy the car at their dealership. I laughed.
    After purchasing a car over the Internet and the amount of respect I received from several other dealerships outside the SF Bay Area, I will never give Stevens Creek BMW any more of my time.

    • @ECPP

      That is quit the story so I suppose what ever venue serves better that’s what it takes. I know some of the sales associates are great while others give the bulk a bad reputation,

    I am glad you explained this to me. After hearing this it still doesnt explain why I am still treated like this 12 years later at the same dealership. I have owned 4 BMW's, all being bought from the same BMW dealership of Alexandria, Va. and I am still not greeted once I walk thru the door. I currently own a 2017 f80 M3 and thought they would treat me better once I bought an M car. I was wrong. Mercedes has much more respect for its customers by a mile thus earning my wife's business. If I didn't love what I get in the BMW brand in the way of driver involvement , performance and craftmanship, I would have been gone a long time ago. I don't see it ever changing. Btw I wear Jean's and sneakers on purpose because clothes don't make the person is my perspective.

When I rolled in my local dealership in my super clean 2011 E93 Msport to get serviced, I received a lot of positive attention, but I do believe that if I had rolled up in a Chevrolet or Buick, because of my skin color, and my Jeans and pullover shirt, I may not have received the attention that I did! You’re offered a beverage and every salesman is required to speak to anyone and treat every client the same. I’m truly sorry this occurred man. As a BMW dealership employee that is entirely false that’s an incident. The “up” system is dead that is the game 25 years ago. This information is absolutely not true lmao. Anyone who has ever worked sales in this modern world you know there isn’t an up rotation lmao. It’s whoever wants to sale sales. First one there it’s your deal. Everyone is looking to but their next car question is whose gonna sale it to them. Sounds like that automotive group is stuck in the 80’s

    I'm not sure it's typical of BMW dealers as a whole, although they do offer a high end product. You'd expect the same of a jewellers if you looked into the glass drawer with expensive watches. If you were suitably attired - yes, the'd be incredibly ignorant to do nothing.

  • @Sam-gj3xg
    @Sam-gj3xg 6 лет назад +1

    It's pretty simple, just like in an apple store they know who you are and why you are there. Sure they could've said hello or good morning but they know why you are there. I wouldn't say its 100% always this case as profiling. Think about it from a business perspective, they are going to find people who are ready to buy first, second people that ask and third those who are unsure.
    Also- you say a lot you like the brand- if the product is as good as you say it is, (I'm an owner myself too) but if this is the case wouldn't the cars almost sell themselves? I guess this is all subjective because I usually prefer it when I can look around before someone comes and asks me if I am interested in maybe a test drive and so on. It kind of gives me a second to think and see what is on the show floor.
    Just my 2 cents- but I see your frustration. Nowadays business and numbers is more important than quality and service to customers; but I guess the times are changing. And you have to pay more to get par or better quality goods or service.

    The bmw dealership is probably the worst place to deal with in general, they are all about making money, they don’t give a shit about people, if you’re there to get a water pump replace, and there’s limited loaner vehicles, the customer that has a oil pan gaskets repair will get that loaner car First even though you schedule a service appointments before him, but since his repair costs is greater than yours he’s considered worthy because he’s bringing in more income for the company, every dealership is very well organized, but bmw definitely has a bad reputation they have no problem showing anyone that they are only interested in making money, I had a bmw salesman telling me I need to put down at least $20,000 on an x6 this is even before running my credit report or calculating my trade in I quickly got into my Lexus and drive out from there, and got a better deal at a small five star dealership that was not a bmw dealership, and I got a complete service record on the vehicle I purchased.

    I know what you mean I walked into a bmw dealer after work in dirty jeans and a regular shirt and I walked around and everyone just ignored me but then when I said I’m here to purchase a car they treated me a lot different

    It's unfortunate that this happens. This is a failure on the part of the salesmen and the managers. Sales people should never profile customers. Sales people should even talk to people who are not in the market because they need to make the sales floor a friendly welcome place for customers. Profiling is a bad practice. Managers should also never enforce this type of rotation. Customers from service are a great source of sales, but a salesman should never lose their turn for a new customer by talking to a service customer. A salesman should have talked to you to see if you were interested in a new car and should not lose his place in line regardless of your answer. Sales customers should be free game for any salesman to talk to.

    I've tried watching two of your videos and unfortunately couldn't get through either of them. I used to sell furniture and this "Up" system is true in all sales industries. Funny enough I was just sharing a story with my family the other day about how I would get great sales because my coworkers 'passed' on their "Up". But story was told in about 3 min. This is not a BIG secret! Was actually looking for something informative :(

    Hi Mark..like always, a great informative video! 👍 I still haven't decided if to go with Jag F-Type R or BMW (M850i). I am leaning more towards BMW as I don't trust TATA's loyalty to their customers. They are switching to all electric in 2025..what's going to happen to their combustion engine counterparts? Are they still going to provide services to older Jag models and for how long before they realize that it does not fit their business model anymore? I love F-Type R but it seems like a big risk to take. Anyways..two questions about this video: wouldn't it be easier to just order a BMW online instead of having to go through the dealer? I heard that everything including the car delivery can be done all without leaving your home? Also, do you think that if you wore a suit you would've been treated differently? I say, maybe it is worth putting on a suit to speed up the process? I don't know...

    • @ECPP
      @ECPP  Год назад +1

      Hi Ermin, yes some great points you make and, while i do not wear a suit, I believe I also do. It dress like I came off a construction job. To me it speaks volumes about their character. Either way, yes I think a remote buy is more possibly these days but when I filmed this video from a few years ago, the norm was in person. As far as your choice goes, the 850 is a quick car and likely would give an f Type r a run for its money. There is a risk in getting parts as time goes on since the Jags will be discontinued, but I believe the majority of bits will be around for quite some time, o worse than any other ICE since EVs May wind up obsoleting all gas jobbers. Service has not been great before so not sure things get much worse, lol. BMW has a good service structure albeit comes at a cost for any CeL or diagnostic non standard work.

      @@ECPP Thanks for your response Mark! I agree with you. Like you said, who knows..EVs might soon make combustion engine cars obsolete. However, I refuse to accept that it will happen. We had cars with automatic transmissions for how long and manuals are still being produced. I think that as long as there is still a market for our combustion engine gas guzzlers, they will continue to be made. Unfortunately some car manufacturers will jump off the wagon and go all EV like Jag. That's why I think that BMW is a safer buy. At least for now. It's such a shame because I really like the F-Type R but 850 is a really beautiful car too. In any case, thanks for your advices Mark. I appreciate it!
      PS: I think that the BMW dealership that made you wait for that long did a great disservice to themselves. I don't wear suits either..nothing wrong with dressing cool casual. It does speak a lot about them. I must say though that I had a similar treatment at our local Jag dealership. I had to go around looking for someone to talk to.

    • @ECPP

      I like the X5's so i think it would be a good choice for and SUV. That being said a warranty or extended warranty would be a good ask as far a I am concerned. Is this a gas or diesel ? Diesels and M versions are also more expensive and slightly less reliable than the rest of the line up.

      ExoticCar PlayPlace it's a gasoline and a base model. Since the vehicle was sitting on a lot for almost a year, I'm kinda worried about the vehicle's mechanical issues.

    YES! This happened to me at an Infinity dealership. I was on vacation and hadn't shaved for over a week and I was dressed like a slob. I'm sure I looked homeless. I live in town in a high-end home and could buy and sell every one of those schmucks easily twice over. The manager actually took my name and ran my credit without asking me. The score came back off the charts high, and for some reason it was a few points higher than the upper limit. First, I got the incredulous stares and then it got to the point where they were tripping over each other. After the test drive the salesman apologized for the "delay" and mentioned my credit score. I told him that I pay my bills on time and not to judge people by appearance. He was obviously embarrassed. Good. I bought a BMW convertible.

    Growing up in California, BMW was Known as a Yuppy car! Another words, snobby, square, rich folks with their nose in the air! So the BMW Salesman caters to the Golf, Tennis, and Country club Guys!, not the cool, laid back, beanie wareing Exotic Car place guy, or other profiles outside of their visual criteria!(??????). I took my 2011 335i Msport E93 to a local dealership for routine service, and I was actually treated ok. Had I drove up in a "Lest than Standard auto"(????), I may have been to doing a piggy back video to yours! Lol. I get it!
