  • Delta State Government has commenced construction of access road to the proposed Asaba waterfront city in the state capital.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in an interview with journalists during the inspection of the project disclosed that the project was conceived by the previous administration through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Model.
He said the state government’s role was to construct a 6-lane access road to the new city, while the developers were expected to reclaim the land and develop the city.
On the Marine Road Off Cable Point Road Asaba, Governor Oborevwori said the road was very important to the people of Asaba because goods come from across the River Niger. He also assured that the State Government was working hard to clean up Asaba, expressing optimism that this year a lot will change.
Governor Oborevwori also inspected the ongoing construction work on Leo Okonweze and Odozi-Obodo streets, off Ezenei Avenue, in Asaba, and urged the contractors to expedite completion action on them.
At the 4.5km Oko-Amakom to Oko-Obiakpu main alignment road, the governor disclosed that the contractor has assured that the project will be completed in June/July 2025.
Quest Charles Kosipre reports that the Oko- Amazon to Oko- Obiakpu road is very important to the people of Oko; not just as a road but also as a refuge to build IDP camps during the floods that annually ravage their communities.
