Their sound has some similarities with Smashing Pumpkins, Local H, Deftones, Dinosaur Jr., Jawbox, and Nada Surf.

this was the album my brothers and i listened to while we smoked weed and played video games. the sounds bring back memories and become a virtual time machine.
The bass is really rockin in this tune. The guitars add the next level, and the vocals bring it home.

I remember being fascinated by Joe's piano playing at 3:57 back on mlb 10 the show. So peaceful and.. it just pulled me into the song and made me repeat the track. I believe that little bit is may have been what made me into a SSPU fan for life. Just that sound.. oh man I love it

SP was like my favourite band for about eight years and is still one of my favourite bands. Just because you don't see the similarities doesn't mean they aren't there. It just means you don't see them. =)
Dunno how people can mistake 'liking' for 'similarities' and vice versa. A band can be similar to another band and not be as good (or be better). Just because you don't enjoy Silversun Pickups doesn't mean they don't share a lot of musical roots with SP.

Haha! Was just playing this on my SSPU station the other day, and I always purposely mis-sing the lyrics. I actually got to meet Brian after they released the album and told him that I always hear it as "my head is reeling / it's nice to know to wear cologne."
It's cool you got to meet him, Zoey Cole. And that cologne line seems to be a running joke with people who've heard this song; surprisingly, it never occurred to me.
Yeah, he gave me this look like, "yes, I heard that one before, you butt." ;)

One of the greatest parts of Swoon, what made it better than Carnavas for me, was great use of Strings. I haven't heard a rock band use strings this well since probably ELO.

Hey, let's put it this way: I just started listening to Silversun Pickups a few days ago, and the first thing I thought was that they reminded me a lot of Smashing Pumpkins, and that was one of the reasons I liked them. They aren't exactly the same, that's not the freaking point. They have similar qualities. And after I saw your pretentious comment I went looking for a little backup, and apparently a lot of music critics agree with that assessment. I'm gonna trust my judgment over yours, dude.
