Just a heads-up, I'm pretty sure he left out the part where you have to clip the wires that you fed through the grommets back up into the wires that are up higher on the tailgate
The part where you send the wire through the rubber grommet to get to the hatch is so incredibly difficult. Took me a solid 30-45 minutes to do. Great end-result though.
tip for next time: Maybe take a bendable steel wire or something and get it through and hook the wire to it. I was able to pull it through about 3/4 of the way and then easily pulled it out from the other side with some pushes. Took me maybe 10mins for both.
@@EvanLott94 I just took a piece bent it half way and the pushed the bent part through to not scratch the rubber. Once I did that I pulled the other half through and attached the end of it to the wire. It worked pretty well for me.
Also. When it comes to the t taps. If you don’t have them but have a crap ton of other connectors lying around… I used a butt connector. Took the wires cramped them down. Wrapped it with black tape and I was good to go. Also when wiring alongside your hatch with the other wires… to keep it snug and neat I took black tape and wrapped it around the existing wires to have everything flush. When it comes to the boot part. Like an existing comment with the wire. I used a wire hanger. I took a straight piece bent the end of it over as to not poke a hole thru the boot, took the end of the wire and wrapped it in blue painters tape around the wire real good. And snaked it through… tediously. I honestly found it a bit easier to stretch the boot as you snake it and then to roll down the opposing side. It is not easy but if you take your time and try not to get frustrated haha then you’re golden. Otherwise the whole process is fairly straightforward. It’s just having patience.
@@Ghostyyxo You have to do a total of 2 T-Taps from the license plate lights, I think they only showed 1, maybe your t-tap didn't make it through the wire insulation and you have to go with a smaller size?
There is also a blue wire with a similar spade connector that is already connected... if you connect the yellow wire in place of this blue wire, the signal/hazards will not be sequential, they will flash instead.
has anyone noticed when all our rear lights do not flash on hazard. or isnit just me that messed up. because on mine, only the hatch. what am i missing? -besides two flashing hazards.
At 9:56 when you're saying "snap the retainer" - I've got the little ball positioned on the yellow plug, but nothing's "snapping". I tightened it down using the bots by hand, and it seems to be in place, but -- no snap. Normal?
Those are the black ones- not the smoked. Each state here in the states have different rules for smoked tail lights. I would say check before you get the smoked ones. *side note, I wanted the smoked ones but couldn’t in Washington State (not permitted) **the plain black ones- look great on my 2011 hatch WRX 👍👍
Sorry, just noticed the notifications. The lights look much better than stock. During the day the brake lights look pink and the sequential blinkers are pretty dim, but still visible. I think they would look better if the plastics covering the brake light LED's weren't white but red. Installation was very easy. Build quality is very good. I wish they were brighter for daytime driving. Would like it if the brake light didn't look pink during the day and I think it's awkward how far the plastic of the lens sticks out on the blinker area. I didn't notice it stuck out so much. Overall, I'm happy with the lights. If I wasn't going for a show car, I'd leave them. But I've already ordered a pair of valenti's non-smoked. I'm going to pop the lenses off and paint everything that's chrome black so it has the dark look with a clear lens.
There is a single yellow wire that hangs off the harness on the main outside tail light, does that get connected to anything? Just asking since I didn't see it addressed in the video.
There is also a blue wire with a similar spade connector that is already connected... if you connect the yellow wire in place of this blue wire, the signal/hazards will not be sequential, they will flash instead.
For me, it's too much work, to make your car have a more modern feel. For that aspect, why not buy a new (er) car? I understand some may not want a car payment again, or worse, because they don't make a hatch any longer(May come back within the next decade).
mmm i dont know maybe you can ask all the modded jdm peoples out there why they buy 20 plus year old cars and make them look absolutely beautiful and drive and perform better then bugatti's

Thanks for the instruction guide and the lights. They fit perfect! I give them a 10 out of 10 star rating!

@@FireDramine7 Thanks, that's a great idea. I was mainly scared to put something sharp in there in case it went through the rubber or something

Ok but how do you get the tailgate lights to work??
Danny760side you have to splice the green wire into the wire powering the license plate light. It’s a black and white striped wire

Just a heads up, the tail lights don’t come with the T-Tap Connectors for the power from license plate light, you can get a set from Amazon.
were you able to get the tailights to come on with the ttaps? i tired the method they did here, but the running lights on the hatch do not turn on.

I don’t have a black wire with white stripes. I hooked it up to a blue and yellow wire and the tailights don’t shut off.
I mirrored this video as well. What does the yellow go too?

I had this problem as well
Why do you have to tap into the licence plate light?
do they have fog lights?
Will this work on the 2008 Impreza s-gt?
What kind of t type connectors. I know Male and female. But what brand?
awesome video, me and my buddy were able to install these in about an hour. they look sooooooooo good!!!
hey fam, do the parking and stop lights look yellow or is it my monitor color... looking to buy these.
Great instructions. Thank you so much for the lesson; and the savings.
the break lights are yellow?
i've never been excited to use turn signals.
Are the wrx taillights the same as the diesel model? Thanks!
Size 14-18 t-taps worked for me. 18-20 didn't for some reason tho
Anyone have sealant problems like condensation and water getting in the housing?
looks like new Toyota Yaris tail lights :) good work!
🥴looks like a subaru
what type of exhaust is that?
Invidia Gemini r400. I have the same.
So….. did he build these tail lights or purchase these tail lights? Install is install…. That’s easy.
why not 2014?
Installed mine but the 2 lights on the tailgate dont turn on the running lights i installed exactly how it shows on the video
i just installed mine and seeing the same issue. did you find any fix?
@@Ghostyyxo no my year didnt come with those lights installed still looks good without
I also had this issue with my 09, is there a difference from 08-09 and 10-14??

The parking and brake lights look much more yellow. Look at how red the 3rd brake light looks in comparison. Bummer, because I really like them.
I think it's because the 3rd brake light has a red overlay. You can remove it or smoke it and it will be similar.

No

Because it’s meant for the 2008-2012 Impreza
I have it installed on a 2014 STI. it suppose to fit.
