Gibson Brothers: Quartier Latin [Full Album + Bonus] (1981)

The Gibson Brothers' On The Riviera album in 1980 had not yielded any massive hits the size of Cuba and Que Sera Mi Vida. Instead, the brothers were watching Ottawan take off rapidly with D.I.S.C.O., T'es O.K., and Hands Up, but with the two lip-syncing members being fired, Ottawan's success quickly dwindled. The brothers' new single Sheela was released in the summer of 1981 but the mid-tempo pace was not what the public wanted. Shortly after the production team composed & produced the Rocky Woman single with Amii Stewart. Gibson Brothers' 5th album Quartier Latin emerged in November, a more laid-back, Caribbean-flavoured album rather than disco, accompanied by the title track as the next single release, but neither could muster any chart action anywhere. "A" Train To Bombay was released as the third single in April '82 while the UK opted for the reggae-lite I Left My Heart In Jamaica. In September '82, a new song was released on single, My Heart's Beating Wild (Tic Tac Tic Tac) which curiously was quickly replaced with a remix. This gave the brothers a hit in France where it reached No. 17, and a minor hit when belated released in the UK in the summer of '83 where it hit No. 56. In Japan, it was No. 71 in January 1984. By that time the brothers' collaboration with Zagora Productions had come to an end.

Excellent album, "Jamaica" being highlight for me, though I certainly also very much appreciate them recording a catchy song about "Paranoia" :-)
