Not sure what that noise was just after the truck stopped (maybe the engine revving out of control) but at first it sounded like the truck whined "Ohhh Noo" (0:17)
I thought it was the truck driver mashing the gas, trying to pull the truck the rest of the way through. But, yeah, it also sounds like the truck is whimpering. :)
I think there is only one failure on this website, and that is to provide a third angle from the other side, to capture the view of the drivers as to whether they are "surprised" or "shocked" ...or if they knew or were suspicious that the strike would happen. I don't know why there might be a "legal problem" with showing "stupid" or "ignorant" drivers being caught doing something "stupid" or "ignorant". It would provide a completely different piece of information to this situation. .
There's a sense of morbid satisfaction that comes from seeing a truck make it all the way past the crash bar and having the roof ripped completely off from end to end.
Ignore lit warning sign, check. Ignore speed limit, check. Run a red light, check. I'm guessing this person had a pretty lively conversation with the local constabulary.
It wouldn't help with this guy going that fast but Im surprised the bridge doesn't have a bar hung on a chain just in front of the bridge so people can get a slight warning that destruction is about to happen if you don't stop. Every underground shopping centre carpark in Australia has such a device. Hit the loose swinging bar before you enter the low height carpark.
in germany are existing some bridges where three hanging signs are mounted 150, 100 and 25meters before the rainroadbridge with a hight of 3,8m. what do you thing how many truck drivers a day with a higher truck do not care about these hanging and clappering warning and are driving just to the bridge till they realise they are to high?
in the US we do use those for parking garages and drive-thrus. the thing with this bridge is that it has a sensor which enables the "OVERHEIGHT MUST TURN" sign. Meaning they should know they have to turn before getting past the light, but they're too dumb to realize that the sign is for them i guess. Or they are speeding and miss the sign completely.
It's amazing how many people are seemingly illiterate. "OVERHEIGHT MUST TURN " seems like a pretty clear warning. It's not like you have to know the height of your truck and the clearance of the bridge and then do really hard math, they make it easy. Yet people still hit it.
I mean, a sign that clearly stated that it flashed lights when something was overheight apparently wasn't enough so they had to make it even more explicit AND install traffic lights and the point still doesn't get across!
*AND* a red-light runner. Which accounts for his speed. He was hoping to get through before the light turned red, it turned red anyhow, and it was pedal to the metal. Note at 0:11 that the light goes yellow, before going to red, and the sign comes on with it's "OVERHEIGHT / MUST TURN". So the truck triggered to overheight warning system. He obviously did not want to slam on his brakes. This is crash #6 since 12 May 2017. We are well on the way in returning to the old average of one crash per month. PS, two wheelies and a couple of bounces.
When in NY NY with my Semi . that needed repairs I went to a truck repair and scrap yard and saw what must have been at least a thousand trucks wrecked like that sitting in the huge junk yard. I had no idea so many trucks ran into low bridges. Still the owner told me that sometimes in NY the road crew will pave under a bridge and not change the sign to reflect the fact that there is now lower clearance. He told me the city just kept getting away with such stupid repairs for many years and even still at that time did such stupid thing as to pave over and not re measure the clearance . My truck did not hit a bridge but did need some mechanical repairs .
Yeah, we had a politician in the 1940s named Robert Moses who ruled the city with an iron fist. ( Neither a mayor nor a governor and not elected (:-) ) He created the concept of a parkway where only cars, not trucks or buses could travel. To enforce his policy, he made sure that all overpasses were lower than most trucks or buses in use at the time. This is design, not accidental incompetence. Personally, I like having a parkway to drive on with no trucks, and many people agree. Obviously we all need trucks to do what they do - and the majority of roads are truck-friendly.
Thought you were gonna save a few seconds by running that light huh?! But the canoperner was waiting.... SCALPED clean! vicious! I think that should take the second highest ranking of all time.
I also like that 'innocent' little red sign at the side of the bridge saying "Truck route" and pointing left. If anyone would mind to slow down and read...
Mike Joy: “Caution has come out here at Durham international raceway .. and .. it’s the yellow Penske car that got into trouble.” Darrell Waltrip: “What a mess.”
i doubt that flat tires will lower this penske enough to pass through. better running only on rims without tires. that`ll fit..:-) and giving in darkness something action scene for the camera after passing when the sparks flying from the turning rims on the aspahlt:-)
It's sometimes done: reduce tire pressure to get the truck through but only after carfull CAD planing, you don't know if it will fit if the road ascends after you are through the brigde. Here you may get an exemption for overheight or overweihgt but you need to do the planing and paperwork (you'll need to get the contruttion plans of the bridges). There is an error margin for exemptions (the markings are some " lower as the bridges) and there are ... you must prove your truck fits through in the CAD (if you are over the error ... - tip not all lanes are equal).
Either he didn't know the height of his truck or he didn't see the many warning signs. No excuses, either way. Part of a truck driver's job is knowing the size of the vehicle and decided if you can make it safely.
You can rent trucks these sizes without any experience whatsoever. My dad did it once or twice, he was a careful driver though so nothing bad happened. Still, it kind of puts this thing into perspective.
Yes. When renting and driving a box truck from the like of Penske, Budget, or UHaul, you should be very mindful of its height. It’s not your SUV. SMH 11’8” strikes again indeed! She’ll never let you down. 🤣

This never gets old. Great stuff. Love this channel. Hope these people are getting the insurance on those truck rentals.
as far as i know, pretty much every truck rental company nearby has an exception in their insurance coverage specifically for this bridge
I hope they're NOT getting the insurance. Why should the insurance companies foot the bill for someone's recklessness / inattentiveness / idiocy?
"overheight must turn" sign, 2 red light, signs everywhere still doesn't prevent the driver from plowing trough
The bridge has been fed!!!
Bobby Lawson You beat me to it. The bridge has not been fed in awhile. It was very hungry!
11 foot ATE!
11ft8 "I love fast food"
And still it hungers.
Penske should start flat deck truck division by converting their box trucks through this bridge!
this might be the greatest channel on RUclips
true
No clue how this landed up getting into my daily feed but it does provide a chuckle every time
Damn fine crash. The Enterprise truck who had the roof wrap itself perfectly around the sign will always be the best though.
And now the judges with their scores. It looks like a perfect 10 folks.
Not sure what that noise was just after the truck stopped (maybe the engine revving out of control) but at first it sounded like the truck whined "Ohhh Noo"
(0:17)
Ferroequinology that sound was the white Mercedes driving off.
It did sound like the driver still had his or her foot on the gas
Ferroequinology Lmao I didn't notice that.
maybe it was shifted to nutral?
Haven’t seen a true canopener in a while. Probably one of my favorite crashes.
Of course, what better than a Penske truck!
Loved this one! Enjoyed the explanation of the tow truck and especially the 1/3 speed. Great additions!
With the speed he ran into the bridge nothing would help! LOL.
in the US we do use those for parking garages and drive-thrus. the thing with this bridge is that it has a sensor which enables the "OVERHEIGHT MUST TURN" sign. Meaning they should know they have to turn before getting past the light, but they're too dumb to realize that the sign is for them i guess. Or they are speeding and miss the sign completely.
Unfortunately that would not fix stupid. That and we wouldn't have free entertainment
*Was cab damaged: 0 points
*Was there a complete roof-peel: 25 points
*Were trailer sides destroyed: 0 points
*Was there a two-lane debris field: 25 points
*Did truck wholly exit other side of bridge: 20 points (almost)
*Bonus: Was speed limit exceeded: 10 bonus points
*Bonus: Did wheels leave pavement: yes: 10 bonus points
*Bonus: Add 5 shame points for each witness: 5 points
.
Total crash rating: 95/100 points; Remarks: Very Satisfying
It's amazing how many people are seemingly illiterate. "OVERHEIGHT MUST TURN " seems like a pretty clear warning. It's not like you have to know the height of your truck and the clearance of the bridge and then do really hard math, they make it easy. Yet people still hit it.
I mean, a sign that clearly stated that it flashed lights when something was overheight apparently wasn't enough so they had to make it even more explicit AND install traffic lights and the point still doesn't get across!
72speedway well they should make it NO TRUCKS Allow!
Not everything thinks things through.
Back on form, bridge! Awesome! - The driver outrunning his very own red light was quite meta. What a glorious fail.
Thanks for showing the aftermath!
What kind of sick person would give this a thumbs down!!!?
OMG this was the best one in a long time :D Ran the light and all! Nice to see that the old girl still has a appetite for penske trucks
If I hit one, I would be out there with a tape measure like a *shot*; if the sign was wrong, I'd tell them to go pound sand.
Yeah, we had a politician in the 1940s named Robert Moses who ruled the city with an iron fist. ( Neither a mayor nor a governor and not elected (:-) )
He created the concept of a parkway where only cars, not trucks or buses could travel.
@@spindriftdrinker Is that Storrow Drive by any chance?
I imagine that white sedan saying "Hear that? That's the sound of somebody else's problem" as it just casually keeps driving
This driver had some gusto and enthusiasm in the attempt!!!
I'd say this driver has taken the 11-8 challenge before!!!
Thought you were gonna save a few seconds by running that light huh?! But the canoperner was waiting.... SCALPED clean! vicious! I think that should take the second highest ranking of all time.
This just made my day if not week. All the ingredients came together perfectly.
I also like that 'innocent' little red sign at the side of the bridge saying "Truck route" and pointing left. If anyone would mind to slow down and read...
The red and black colour scheme hurts my eyes.
Doesn't apply to trucks that are under a weight limit or those that are making local deliveries.
roof peeling: + 100 points
wheelie: + 999 points
roof peeling + wheelie combo: *level up !*
This is how people fulfill their sadistic tendencies without hurting people or things.
Hidden fact: The bridge is actually a good 13 feet, but lowers when the red light is on.
FLOOR IT
And that's how you lose a deposit, get charged for a roof AND a transmission.
or ROOF IT!!
ROOF IT !!!!
fang it!
more power scotty!!!
Ironically, the reason why the red light turned red, which caused him to accelerate, was because he was too tall.
Another one bites the dust.
If only he just ignored that damn extended warranty call!
Mike Joy: “Caution has come out here at Durham international raceway .. and .. it’s the yellow Penske car that got into trouble.”
Darrell Waltrip: “What a mess.”
Lol... I miss Richard Petty...
A believer in the "If you are going to go, go big!" approach to life.
One dislike... must be the driver himself!
Don't run red lights kids.
People renting trucks at the truck rental place should have to watch this before they are allowed to drive off.
I'm surprised there was no, "oh no this looks tight," hesitation. Just straight went for it hahaha!
Gotta go fast to do dank whoolies bro
just another 5km/h more and he would be able to make it through the other side
It's the only responsible way to run a red light.
*Truly epic. This crash will stand for all time. What a great way to celebrate #1-2-3!*
I literally yelled YESSSSSSS! out loud in my room all alone when i saw this in my subscriptions
Me too, and I wasn't disappointed.
Loving the new signals. Stops most of the crashes, but the REALLY reckless drivers who speed up for a red light get massively fucked, HARD!!!
I just love the drivers who are about to turn under the bridge, see an accident happen, and just go "yeah, not today"
I bet that repair bill was astronomical...😂😅😢
Run the red light, get trashed by the skewer and have people laugh their ass off at you..
Pro Tip: Drop the air pressure in the tires and lessen the final extraction pain.
i doubt that flat tires will lower this penske enough to pass through. better running only on rims without tires. that`ll fit..:-) and giving in darkness something action scene for the camera after passing when the sparks flying from the turning rims on the aspahlt:-)
Not all Penske drivers are CDL licensed or experienced with this size of truck.
Joshua79C C Oh.
SMH
11’8” strikes again indeed! She’ll never let you down. 🤣
It does not matter so much that they did not know the height of the truck, what does matter is that they ran a red light.
Did the impact shake the secondary camera at 0:31...?! How?
I didn't notice that the first time but it does seem that way!
RIP 11'8. I'll watch your videos always. 😭
