The West's steady criticism of Hungary on democratic and cultural issues makes the country's right-wing government reluctant to offer support on practical matters, specifically NATO's buildup against Russia, Hungary’s foreign minister said.

Get with the program. It's not Sweden and Finland who questions the level of democracy in Hungary today. The Economist democracy index describes it as a 'flawed democracy' due to many changes done by the current regime, which has brought the country to the bottom ranked segment in Europe. An open, democratic country has to be able to deal with criticism and not try to blackmail and silent other countries when they speak up. Respect is only demanded by authoritarian regimes. Normal, democratic leaders earn it.

"An open, democratic country has to be able to deal with criticism and not try to blackmail and silent other countries when they speak up." Oh, how very true words! I wish it would be so. I wish no one would try to impose ideologies on a country by blackmail. 🙏

@@elemenkanna If you want to be a part of something you need to live up to its values. Hungarian regime is obviously alone in this one. They are moving down an authoritarian path and the Orban regime tries to silence criticism.
Now they demand "respect". Normal leaders don't demand respect, they earn it. Only authoritarian regimes and gangsters demand respect.

@@ugvadugvaw Criticism - not equal - demonizes and stigmatizes with all kinds of lies and baseless slanders, and then condemns and punishes a group of people based on these lies! Representatives of the Swedish government and Swedish EP representatives deliberately and maliciously harm the Hungarian people wherever they can. To give just one example: the exclusion of tens of thousands of Hungarian university students and researchers from the Erasmus program and European research collaborations. What is your next criticism that we have to endure? A scarlet letter on our clothes?

@@ugvadugvaw Lies: "Hungary is less democratic than other European countries, there is no rule of law, basic human rights are violated, the rights of minorities are not respected, there is no freedom of the press, etc. etc..."
These are all huge lies, political mantras, with which frustrated election losers and its western allies demonize the winner of the elections (i.e. the political side able to convince the voters) And the mainstream Western press washes your brains with these false political slogans.
