  • The Chūō Main Line (中央本線, Chūō-honsen), commonly called the Chūō Line, is one of the major trunk railway lines in Japan. It connects Tokyo and Nagoya, although it is the slowest direct railway connection between the two cities; the coastal Tōkaidō Main Line is slightly faster, and the Tōkaidō Shinkansen which is currently the fastest rail link between the cities.
    The eastern portion, the Chūō East Line (中央東線, Chūō-tōsen), is operated by the East Japan Railway Company (JR East), while the western portion, the Chūō West Line (中央西線, Chūō-saisen), is operated by the Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central).
    Local and rapid service trains run on the line from Nakatsugawa to Nagoya. This section carries urban traffic for the Greater Nagoya Area.
    At Nagoya Station, the terminus of the line, a new train track surface indicator has been installed. This is part of an initiative to improve the safety of work on the tracks.
    The system consists of a blue LED indicator light installed in the track, which lights up constantly, and a flashing blue LED indicator light in the path of the approaching train. When a train is approaching, the blue LED indicator on the path of the train flashes, and when the train passes, the blue LED indicator returns to its illuminated state.
    The system will be in operation from the end of April 2020. The installation will cost 570 million yen.
    As maintenance and inspection work on conventional lines is carried out day and night with many trains coming and going, train spotters have been deployed to check the approach of trains to the work site.
    The train guard informs the workers of the approaching train and makes them move off the track to ensure safety.

    I don’t know if this is everywhere in Japan but I like how they have flashing signs for the 6 car and the 8 car stop to make it easier for the driver to remember.

    • @briannem.6787
      @briannem.6787 3 года назад +1

      It isn't everywhere. They almost always have a non-lit sign, though.

      @@briannem.6787 The ones in the U.K. are so small that I can’t imagine the driver would be able to see it if they didn’t already know. They’re probably more useful for passengers to know where to wait on a long platform.

    Can anyone explain the significance of the blue track lights at Nagoya. please

    • @JoshuaAdiguna
      @JoshuaAdiguna 3 года назад +3

      According to JR Central , it is a device that notifies workers who perform maintenance and inspection on the track that the train is approaching, and when the train approaches, the blue light on the track flashes. It is said that it is the first time for JR companies to visually inform the train passage route by such a mechanism, and full-scale operation started in August. "Blue", which is different from the signal (red, yellow, and green), is used so as not to affect driving. (asahi.com)

    Why is shin-moriyama station so wide? It looks wide enough to have 2 bypass tracks down the middle! (15:02)

    • @AUNZRAILFAN

      Shin-Moriyama station has several tracks to allow express trains to overtake.

      @@AUNZRAILFAN Oh, so a few were removed I'd guess- that'd explain the wide gravel area between the island platforms.
