    just want to say that half the people commenting don't know what they are talking about! Yes, there is a lot of illegal bird trade but it is important to breed them in captivity if the species is decreasing in the wild. Without breeders most species of birds would be extinct. This is why it is important to take care of them, (Like the people in this video) and release them so the population of these birds and environment can benefit. Humans are not the only problems to the repopulation of these majestic and beautiful animals. Let's thank God for all that he created and that humans care enough to take care of his creation.

      @siennacrosby1778 6 лет назад +3

      Well, humans ARE most of the reason why all the extinct animals are extinct. If it wasn't for us, the western black rhino would still be walking this earth with the lion (etc) as it's only small threat. And for the birds... We are poaching, ruining their forests, and capturing them from their natural habitat and putting most of them in such a small cage that the bird can't even stretch his/her wings!

    • @deanoswell3302
      @deanoswell3302 6 лет назад +1

      Sienna Crosby .. yoh' the last part you mention about small cage size... is worse than a problem.
      ON that note... I am not sure how it is where you are, but here in my country, { The Republic of South Africa} the SPCA are not educated, neither are they seemingly concern with the wellbeing of birds ...smh

      Correct me if I'm wrong, but, is this supposed to be correcting me/lecturing me? I just don't understand because it sounds like you're agreeing for a second and then you put an 'smh' which basically tells me that you're annoyed/angry. Can you re-write that... 😬

      You're correct because that bird they are so happy because they are free to fly wherever they want.. But they dont know is that the hawks and eagles are going to kill and eat them.. I hope they wont be killed by humans and also predators

    • @jmdenison
      @jmdenison 4 года назад

      @@HAKDOG-bp1mi there are very few predators of macaws, but you are right, they must be vigilant for hawks and other birds of prey. even a pet bird, taken outside will get antsy if they spot a hawk or eagle in a tree tho the human won't.

      people that keep pet birds know that they are not supposed to keep them in a cage all day. the cages are for sleeping only. most pet birds roam the house and interact with everyone 12 hours per day and they must have 12 hours covered sleeping at night. most of the day your bird will follow you around chatting and acting silly with you like a toddler. they love the attention of their humans and also the other pets in the home. to keep a bird in a cage all day is considered abusive by pet bird owners.

      Going well. Tracking over to Mexico and back into Guatemala. 5 of the birds are wearing GPS tracking collars. The release site was chosen for small populations of scarlet macaws in Guatemala as well as Mexico. The overall population in the wild for Guatemala, Mexico and Belize is estimated to be 300-400 birds. They are critically endangered. This is a subspecies of scarlets only found in G, M and B in the Mayan Biosphere. They are larger birds than the other scarlet macaws of other countries.

      releasing birds should only be attempted by certified wildlife specialists. a lot of work goes into a release. but then again, macaw parents kick their fledglings out of the nest as soon as they can fly. they do not teach fledglings to fly or find food. as a result many are found starving or they die. mother nature is very cruel. that being said, tons of birds in the US have escaped and learned to live in the wild and have even formed colonies and large flocks in some areas. in the northern states during the winter they have to be provided with heated tree huts and food and water, but there are people who do that for the pet bird escapees.

      @@jmdenison This is not a video from the ''avicultural world'' of bird breeding for the pet trade''. The avicultural world seems to the basis for your knowledge. This is a scientific research based release of birds born to be wild, raised without human imprint by their parents ( who are unreleasable birds seized by Guatemalan govt, wildlife police, natural resources dept that have been damaged due to illegal captivity), The macaw progeny are monitored by veterinarians/biologists and born to be free in a reintroduction program of wild release to support declining wild populations in Guatemala to prevent the threat of extinction of species. These macaws are Ara macao cyanoptera and are critically endangered in Guatemala, Mexico and Belize. Their ancestral jungle home is the Mayan Biosphere Reserve which incorporates the above countries. FYI in the wild ( not the pet trade) macaw chicks fledge at 15 wks and remain with their parents being fed and when a bit older being shown how to feed wild for 6 mths. These birds at the program in Guatemala have that life. Stay with their parents until 10 mths and then moved into large flight aviaries to continue on going rehabilitation where the focus is to provide wild living skills including stamina/strength flying capacity long distance travel for eventual release to the wild when close to sexual maturity. When released the birds wear GPS tracking collars monitored by 5 satellites. The collars will drop off after 1 yr. It provides very important information in terms of survival in the wild as well as the raising of the birds to be able to survive and integrate successfully with wild populations. Don't support the pet trade. It is contributing to loss of species in the wild.

      Hi Scott. I can tell you the history of these birds.I was at the release of them. I am in the video....momentarily...blond hair. Raised wild and bred to be free. This is ARCAS....premier centre of rescue/rehab/wild return for illegally trafficked wildlife in Guatemala. At the centre is a captive breeding program for critically endangered scarlet macaw. Scarlets are protected, the parent birds are seized by govt/wildlife police. Many of them are damaged, unreleasable. Housed in big aviaries and able to chose their own partners. Bonded pairs are housed in their own large aviaries. Birds breed stress free and raise their young on their own. All aviaries are in a forest setting so birds can see and communicate with others as well as hear wildlife they would live with in the jungles. Natural world as possible. Only removed from parents if baby not doing well. Young stay with parents until independent....10 mths and then removed to big flight aviary. Raised with wild food, enrichment to build wild skills, minimal human involvement except for feeding/cleaning/health checks and watching over. Final aviary to prepare for release in the jungle...40m/treed. Release at subadult/sexual maturity....best chance for survival. GPS collar to track for integration with wild population. Released in rain forest corridor of known wild scarlet population. All on release part of scientific/research program. Crying man....Dr Fernando Martinez, research vet, head of breeding program, director of ARCAS. 9 birds released 2015. 13 more in 2018. This clip is part of doco made about work of ARCAS by BBC Natural World series. Released 2016 USA/UK, Europe 2017. Doco called Jungle Animal Hospital . Can see a bit more on RUclips under that title. Every captive bird should be relaesed & ban to make them pets

    • @puncatz4222
      @puncatz4222 6 лет назад +6

      Nauman Ijaz No, not every captive bred bird should be released in the wild, especially if it's not their natural habitat. For example, if you have a macaw for like 30 years ever since it was born, they'll have no idea how to find food and water into the wild because they've been relying on humans their whole life. So, they'll die of thirst or hunger after a few days. That's why people are so worried when their bird flies away, because they'll know they'll die if nobody finds them.

    • @jmdenison
      @jmdenison 4 года назад +1

      you can't because many pet birds have defects which make them unsuitable for release. they may be pluckers or they are missing an eye, a wing or a toe. they might have arthritis in their wings or neurological issues. these make great pets but they cannot be released. also some just don't fly. flying is a lot of work and some birds just refuse. kind of like the couch potato human who never exercises no matter what you tell him. some birds, even if they fly are flight dummies and run into things all the time and land like a penguin. those are also unsuitable for release. in the wild, all of these would just die.

    • @cecilelyons7178
      @cecilelyons7178 3 года назад +1

      Nauman ljaz....releasing former captive birds is not a viable option for them. The birds are unable to take their place back in the wild and need sanctuaries. Life in natural aviaries and with others of their own kind. Change mindset that birds are ''pets''. Say all birds are wild life and belong in the natural world and not in the homes of humans.

      birds do not have domesticated dna. they are always wild, even if you keep them as a pet. as a pet, a macaw can live 60 to 80 years + with regular vet care to trim the beak and nails. in the wild, a bird will live about 30 years.

      well, be sure to read up a ton of information first, watch about 100 hours of youtube on owning an exotic pet bird and then go check out a reliable breeder or bird store or bird show or sanctuary. they're not like owning a normal cat or dog pet, but they are the 3rd most popular pet in the US.

    These beautiful creatures should never be kept as pets.

      It's been shown that captive birds usually liver longer than those in the wild. There are some beautiful, mutually beneficial bird/owner relationships. My bird calls me Mama and knows I am always there for him. He loves me unconditionally and love him the same.

      Most conservationists who focus on parrots disagree with this line of thinking.

      That's right..... conservationists don't agree with myths and fantasies of 'bird owners.' Avian wildlife science and research involving biologists, ecologists, veterinarians, genetists all know the world parrot population is declining and facing a continued threat of 'pet trade' which is involving illegal trade in wildlife.

      Apparently you got the exact opposite message than intended.....
      Most (though not all) trade in live parrots involve birds born in captivity: it's not actually legal in most circumstances to import wild parrots and in the US even illegal trafficking doesn't happen often.
      Can't remember the title but I once read a book that went into both sides of the argument. I recommend you read it.

      If the birds are bred in captivity, I think it is completely fine to have them as pets.
