On this day in 1962 {February 2nd} the Beatles played their first professional gig away from their native Liverpool, it was at The Oasis Club in Manchester... The first song they performed was "Hippy Hippy Shake"; two years later in 1964 the Swinging Blue Jeans took it to #2 in the U.K. and #24 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart... The song was originally recorded by Chan Romero in 1959; his version reached #3 in Australia... R.I.P. John and George...
I love Chan's records...I bought "Hippy...." back in '59 because he had that same DelFi sound that made Ritchie so special. On a lighter note...can't help but wonder had Ritchie survived...would he look like Chan today?
Thanks for the info I love this song and also a big time patsy fan and love learning a little bit about our awww e musicians well you guys are awww ! I tap my foot and sang along lol
I just found out. I'm so sad. I once knew Chan and spent a week at his house in Billings in September 1994. Chan taught me how to play guitar and I thank him for that. I love his songs "California Earthquake",Xavier's Song", and "Hippy Hippy Shake." RIP Chan. You will always have a place in my heart. My deepest condolences go out to Chan Romero's family.
I just found out he was the first one to do this song. He can really rock.
