I understand the dance from both perspectives: the boy has fallen out of love & finally has the courage to tell the girl it's not working anymore. Maybe he's tried to make it work in the past but all it's doing is forcing the love when it's not there & that's bad for the both of them. Rather than trap the girl in a loveless relationship, he tells her the truth (now you know, you're free to go). The girl has done this dance for way too long & after so many attempts at getting him to dance with her (03:50), at the end she understands it's for the best and leaves. Personally, I think this video is about coming to terms with problems. I think the boy represents all the bad things/problems that have happened to the girl or maybe representing the bad things/problems she has caused... Maybe even both? He is dressed entirely in black, and looming - following her and giving no reactions to anything she does. The girl on the other hand is dressed in white (maybe representing hope, innocence or purity?). She constantly moves and looks very confused when the male gives no indication he sees her. Just continues the discount t-posing. I think her dancing is metaphorical her trying to distract herself or running away from these problems. But the thing is, the male never goes away or even alleviates. It remains a constant looming presence regardless of how hard she tries. In the small intermission, where she is posed with her leg up, she is no longer dynamic, she is in stasis, much like the male. Also this is the only time we see tge male actually "move". I think this symbolises her trying to hide from her problems but it doesn't work. Then we see her give her most daring performance to which the male begins to levitate higher, signaling that maybe her methods of distraction or fleeing are working, only for him to return back the way he was. No matter how hard she tries , his presence will continue to loom. In the end, probably realising that the only way to eacape his presence is to accept it (the only way to really escape her problems is to come to terms with them), she bows to the male and he collapses, no longer a looming presence. wow, the symbolism is strong with this one, I see many interpretations in the comments, so here's my 2 cents: He's the classical guy so caught up in the mundane, day to day routine that he's emotionally dead. Meats this fantastically great girl that he admires (follows her anywhere even in his comatose state) but he knows that in order to find common ground with her, her wonderful spirit will have to break to meet him half way. There is a great struggle inside him to let her go, in order not to ruin her spirit and energy. Of course she does not know that and sees it as a sort of rejection, but respectfully takes a bow before leaving. This simple gesture of her of not having resentment towards him is enough to break him out of his comatose state, bring him back to life. Albeit still broken and with a lot of work to do on himself. My thoughts on the meaning of the video is that the motionless guy symbolizes a dead love, or love that leads nowhere, or a partner that stopped caring about his lover. Imagine Dragons videos are always on a completely different level than what you'd expect from other artists and that's what I love about them. They don't do the expected in my opinion when it comes to their music videos and I love every second of it.
I do not think this is about someone whose heart is not in the relationship.... imo. This is about a person seeing something in someone else that is not really there, and the struggle that person has to face knowing they do not want to let the other person down, but also know they will never be the perfect paradise that that person sees them as. This song is about letting someone know the true you and that you are and not the "perfect" person we all strive to be around others. "Now you know, You're free to go" is telling someone that you need to accept me for what I really am because I am a bad liar and I cannot keep letting you believe I am something I am not. The girl is holding up the "image" of him she wants to see and tries to interact with it, but it is not the real him and she is left dancing alone.

This video is a very good example of attachment styles in relationships. In this case the girl is securely attached and the guy is avoidantly attached. Avoidant is distant and runs the other one through endless tests just to squeeze some love out for themselves. Secure person is the endless giver who in the end bleeds heavily and still needs to draw back, because the avoidand didn't find courage in themselves to open up and give love back. So the secure person finally has to leave the relationship if they care about their own sanity and wellbeing. Years ago when I first saw this video I didn't like it at all. Now I undestand why. At that time I was the girl in this video, but I was already heavily bleeding and barely had strength to breathe. Now I understand the whole situation much better. Personally, I think this video is about coming to terms with problems.
I think the boy represents all the bad things/problems that have happened to the girl or maybe representing the bad things/problems she has caused... Maybe even both? He is dressed entirely in black, and looming - following her and giving no reactions to anything she does.
The girl on the other hand is dressed in white (maybe representing hope, innocence or purity?). She constantly moves and looks very confused when the male gives no indication he sees her. Just continues the discount t-posing.
I think her dancing is metaphorical her trying to distract herself or running away from these problems. But the thing is, the male never goes away or even alleviates. It remains a constant looming presence regardless of how hard she tries.
In the small intermission, where she is posed with her leg up, she is no longer dynamic, she is in stasis, much like the male. Also this is the only time we see tge male actually "move". I think this symbolises her trying to hide from her problems but it doesn't work. Then we see her give her most daring performance to which the male begins to levitate higher, signaling that maybe her methods of distraction or fleeing are working, only for him to return back the way he was. No matter how hard she tries , his presence will continue to loom.
In the end, probably realising that the only way to eacape his presence is to accept it (the only way to really escape her problems is to come to terms with them), she bows to the male and he collapses, no longer a looming presence.

wow, the symbolism is strong with this one, I see many interpretations in the comments, so here's my 2 cents:
He's the classical guy so caught up in the mundane, day to day routine that he's emotionally dead. Meats this fantastically great girl that he admires (follows her anywhere even in his comatose state) but he knows that in order to find common ground with her, her wonderful spirit will have to break to meet him half way. There is a great struggle inside him to let her go, in order not to ruin her spirit and energy. Of course she does not know that and sees it as a sort of rejection, but respectfully takes a bow before leaving. This simple gesture of her of not having resentment towards him is enough to break him out of his comatose state, bring him back to life. Albeit still broken and with a lot of work to do on himself. And her walking away with her inner strength even more powerful than before because she knows she tried everything and still has some form of appreciation for him in spite of not knowing about his struggle, it's a huge lesson... a recipe for a healthy future!

My interpretation of the video: the boy is depressive, already dead in this relationship and the girl is still trying to wake him, sometimes trying to activate him, but living her own live, not letting herself getting too involved. She ended up ignoring him for a month yet he kept saying he was a Bad Liar. After that month, he was shot and killed and the girl couldn't believe it so she spent hours trying to prove it wrong until, yes indeed she was a *Bad Liar when it came to saying someone wasn't dead, and she gave up, leaving.

I believe it’s a girl trying hard to get a guys attention and he just ignores her to the point she finally has enough and leaves. In the end it breaks him but she would be just fine.
The song is about a guy who gives his girlfriend the promise that they would marry and live like in paradise. But in the end he's not able to keep that promise and lets her go.
I think the video reflects that theme: the girl is working actively on the relationship (dancing) while the boy does literally nothing. He doesn't even react when she's waiting for him. So she leaves him, and he just collapses because of his passiveness.

My thoughts on the meaning of the video is that the motionless guy symbolizes a dead love, or love that leads nowhere, or a partner that stopped caring about his lover. While the girl symbolizes a person in the relationship that still cares, or doesn't want to believe that their love is over, and does everything and more in attempt to make things work. In the end she realizes it doesn't worth it and it is meaningless, so she bows and goes away, which is the way of saying "I've done what I could, that's enough for me, now I am over it". And the guy falling on the ground symbolizes that at that moment everything really becomes over.
Just my thoughts, maybe Imagine Dragons put completely different meaning in it though :)

I do not think this is about someone whose heart is not in the relationship.... imo. This is about a person seeing something in someone else that is not really there, and the struggle that person has to face knowing they do not want to let the other person down, but also know they will never be the perfect paradise that that person sees them as. This song is about letting someone know the true you and that you are and not the "perfect" person we all strive to be around others.
"Now you know, You're free to go" is telling someone that you need to accept me for what I really am because I am a bad liar and I cannot keep letting you believe I am something I am not. So it is not so much that one person does not care about the other or the relationship, but that one cannot keep hiding and pretending anymore and is saying either accept me for what and who I really am or you are free now.
The girl is holding up the "image" of him she wants to see and tries to interact with it, but it is not the real him and she is left dancing alone.

This video is a very good example of attachment styles in relationships. In this case the girl is securely attached and the guy is avoidantly attached.
