I've always liked the phrase "Love will tear us apart." and I used to doodle it every day. I knew it was a song, but I never listened to it. This is the first time I'm listening to it woah.
One of the best songs ever recorded. A fucking masterpiece. Oh, and Joy Division being the incredible band they were brought me here... Relationships, too, lol. RIP Ian.
I love this song, but it's also so sad to listen to, because you can just tell by his voice that Ian was really going through a rough time. So sad that he's gone. :(
Whilst this isn't Joy Division's best piece of work, it stirs something deep inside me and enabled me to delve deeper into their music. Everyone has a special memory of this song: some great, some terrible, some a combination of the two. But even 35 years after it's release, the fact that it still makes people feel so strongly, myself included, is proof of it's perfection. Don't just see the sad side of Joy Division: See their genius and music, too. Plus Peter Hook is one of my heroes!
Peter hook says that if Ian had've lasted only a few more days he'd probably never of tried to kill himself again because of the American tour they were supposed to do.
I haven't listened to this in a couple of years but I still can't resist air drumming/keyboarding to it after many years of watching the music video, even though i've allways wanted to play the electric guitar more than any other instrument (even just as an amature bedroom guitarist). I WAS for about 4 years since Christmas 2012, I used to jam and practice in my bedroom every afternoon and evening. For the past 2 and a half years though I've barely played the acoustic guitar I have left, since working on and off and throwing away both my cheep and faulty electric guitars out of frustration. But after these 2 years i've been saving money and watching alot of guitar how to, tips and tricks videos to build my own that I roughly designed and made out of K'nex as a kid (still daydreaming of having a real one). I just, "I wish that I knew what I know now, when I was younger", I could've had the knowledge and will power to "sharpen my axe(s)" and THEN build my own. Never give up on your dreams people, "don't stop believing". Sorry, this was going to be a short comment (if that) but I had to let it out, I think it had to be said. DON'T GIVE UP ON WHAT'S GOOD, WHAT'S RIGHT, WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO, WHAT YOU NEED TO DO, WHAT YOU'VE ALWAYS DREAMED AND WANTED TO DO !!! POWER TO THE PEOPLE !!!
I had no idea of this band til I watched the movie Control... Awesome!!! the sound of the band and its history are way great too!!! totally in love with the music
Eleanor & Park brought me here. Outstanding book and a very good song, indeed! I don't know why I've never listened to this before, but I'm glad I had now!
I had a film studies teacher in high school. he was a totally awesome person; made me want to become a director. he loved music like this and he showed me movies like The Royal Tenanbaums and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Anyway, he is the reason I discovered this band because he said my ex looked like Ian Curtis. so So Mr.(Ms.) Loparco, you brought me herr.
These words explain it so well the feeling of having been with someone for a certain amount of years you love them then routine this songs sums up it perfectly but you still love them its life never be newly weds forever
Hey, do you wish to get your ex back or recover someone you love? If yes, then i'd like to recommend a spellcaster who brought my ex back. text him on Whatsapp+2349074975451
Cody Cullum if I understand your comment correctly, most of the first post punk bands didn't consider themselves as it, as it didnt exists as a genre yet as they were the ones that created it, most of their first music didn't even sound like post punk so it's hard to say what band "started it"
Donnie Darko, American Dad, and Criminal Minds has this song: ) but first herd it when I watched Donnie Darko. I love love love this song. And love the lyrics. I have been in this situation where I felt like this and in a weird way gave me peace. And surprisingly my parents never herd this song till I let them hear it. But what ever I love Joy Division!
I retract that, I have slowed the song down and he is softly saying us, after 32yeras of thinking it was it- does it really matter! A tortured soul left this work of art to be pondered over for generations to come!
Perfectly sums up the bittersweet feeling when you realise you can’t try again. Not because you don’t care, but because you both care far too much. You’ll see each other and it’ll go right back to how it was because you can’t help yourself or keep away
Joy Division was one of the darkest greatest things to ever come out of Manchester. my dad always played this song when I was growing up I love joy division so much
i brought myself here because when i was a teenager i was introduced to this song and absolutely loved it.!!!! i also am a fan of new order......and the movie Donnie Darko
Wow I have loved this song for many years but had no idea until today about the guy having many issues and then hung himself and how the remaining members formed New Order!
Just rewatched time traveler's wife... and it's just this time around that i noticed this song playing on the background while they're dancing on their first dance as a couple, Clare and Henry. Ughhhh can't get enough!
TO BE HONEST, WHILE METAL GEAR SOLID V BROUGHT ME HERE, IT ALSO BROUGHT BACK THE SCARS OF MY PAINFUL CHILDHOOD NOSTALGIA, BACK WHEN LIFE WAS SIMPLE AND SOMEWHAT JOYOUS.
This song has serenaded so many sad moments with girls I've loved and struggled with through sweet moments of honesty and strife, argument and expressions of past hate, unluckily pressed to each other to get through present sadness. But such an aching song admitting to the tearing apart and coming together, the longing of an angry girlfriend who's just stormed out to God knows where, or myself out under a bridge wondering how the split happened, and yet we can't get enough of this song's bittersweet honesty when we realise fighting is healthy because we are expressing our freedom to feel what we are feeling to someone dear to us where ever they have run away to.
Sad to know that this man killed himself. 23, he had the voice of an older man. I would have loved to see what the American tour would have been like. RIP
The radio, VH1 & MTV always play shitty music to where you never know that good music does exist. I didn’t know about Joy Division until recent years! I didn’t know that Nine Inch Nails’ Dead Souls was a cover of Joy Division’s original!
There is no better song than this, always make me so sad, but i can listen on repeat & repeat every time. Even if i hear this tune anywhere, ive got to stop and listen to the end.
"Why is the bedroom so cold? Turned away on your side. 🎶" -Love Will Tear Us Apart Again by Joy Division, now that's a happy band for ya. ☮️May the music play forever. 🎶
I've been listening to this song since I was 14, but I never really understood what Ian was saying, as English is not my native language; only now that I'm getting divorced at 29 did I take the time to actually seek out the lyrics and... I'm just speechless, it fit like a glove, no flawed timing here.
The fact that the lyrics are in Comic Sans makes this song even more perfectly depressing to me.
but it aint in comic sans...
0 0 oh shit youre right, halfway through the font changes tho. my bad lol
especially the thing how the singer for this died-
I don't care if it is Comic Sans or not it matches the song and does makes the song even depressing
Sex is worth living for!!!!!
thanks for letting me know the instrumental was going on.
John Richardson 😂😂😂😂
very insightful lyrics !
Lol
Arafat Zahan loads of them are wrong as well
It is meant for deaf people
The lyrics make me cry so hard. Nothing is more depressing than having the one you once loved with all your heart slip away.

Plus Peter Hook is one of my heroes!
If only Ian Curtis had lived for a further 2-3 years, Joy Division may have been recognised as the dark version of The Beatles.
Peter hook says that if Ian had've lasted only a few more days he'd probably never of tried to kill himself again because of the American tour they were supposed to do.
true
Rick Sanchez Shame, Ian did the most idiotic thing to do..
We have Radiohead.
Nicholas Pagano I think you're not giving due credit to the whole band. Without Harrison and Ringo, the band wouldn't of sounded like they did.

Well, I'm here because of Joy Division itself. They kept me going when I was an adolescent, and now that I'm older I want to honor them.
Man, I love how punk rocky this song sounds. I miss good punk rock.

I love this song it gives me a feeling I can't explain
This song is an anthem full of emotions, blues, atmospheres.
i would think so... seeing as Ian Curtis was a deeply emotional genius who hung himself.
norevelation Ian Curtis, you mean.
thats embarrassing. ian travis is a guy i grew up with. freudian slip.
Did you mean Ian Curtis? didn´t you?

I swear i want to be friends with teenagers like me who still listening to this song.

Am listening to this
Can we be friends?
" I just wanted to listen to those three seconds over and over."
"You could have"
"I didn't want to waste the batteries."
Seeing the words is a reminder of the fact that Ian Curtis wasn't just a frontman for a band; he was a poet.
adoro questa canzone, il testo , la musica, l'arrangiamento, la voce di Ian Curtis. Da brividi.
Wonderful, can't believe the guy who did this was so young, respect, love this.
I love that the goth kids from American dad danced to this song to try and scare the jocks away. lmao
I don't understand why they used this song to fend themselves off from the popular kids. Was there some kind of context I was missing?
+karmalotus22 post punk is pretty much the original "goth music", joy division is a huge band in the the goth scene
+Sam qwert so original that the genre their most commonly defined as didn't even exist when they made this song.
Cody Cullum if I understand your comment correctly, most of the first post punk bands didn't consider themselves as it, as it didnt exists as a genre yet as they were the ones that created it, most of their first music didn't even sound like post punk so it's hard to say what band "started it"
+Sam qwert Post-punk existed, but 'Goth' was only recognised from 1983. A band like JD being Goth is therefore re-categorising with hindsight.
Donnie Darko, American Dad, and Criminal Minds has this song: ) but first herd it when I watched Donnie Darko. I love love love this song. And love the lyrics. A tortured soul left this work of art to be pondered over for generations to come!

I really like this song, even when it hurts so much. I'm so freaking heartbroken.
