Interesting on the image circle, because specs have it at full frame. can you go more into which focal length would work on a medium format camera and what mf camera you used it with? thanks a bunch
The focal lengths are based on the the diagonal of a full frame sensor; 43mm being the true ideal The 21mm and 85mm are multiples to achieve a wide and telephoto respectively These are ratios commonly used well up until the 90s. See: The Contax G2 The 31mm and 58mm are focal lengths derived from greatest common factors of 43 MATH! 😅
Great video detailing the pros and cons! I have the set too (found your video through the FB group) and they really are the perfect combo of vintage look with modern mechanics and lack of chromatic aberration. Can't wait for that 21mm!
I think the weird focal lengths are purposeful to the equivalent full-frame. So a 21mm on a super 35mm sensor would be equivalent to 35mm, a 31mm would be like a 50mm, and a 43mm would be like 85mm.
The Dulens APO mini primes are advertised as vintage with some halation. However, I've never heard halation used to refer to a lens quality, only the film effect. Is it refering to the bloom around light sources? Have you found the halation look on the Dulens to be similar to a black mist filter? I ask because I really like the footage ive seen so far, but dont want to be locked into the black mist filter look.
Yes, the halation would be similar to a black mist in some regard, but it’s definitely not too strong or over powering. I still use a Black satin filter with my lenses.
I love the flare and apo design of these lenses, but they have obvious focus breathing which I don't prefer as i use rack focus to seemlessly change the subject, thus i prefer Nisi athena set more
Great video! I have a question, hopefully you could help me. I have a fujifilm xh2s with a metabones PL adapter. Recently I tried the Athena Nisi lenses but since the back of the lens is too protruded it wouldn't fit the adapter. I have tried several other PL lenses and this is the first time I've come across this issue. Do you know if these lenses would have the same issue? Thanks
I’m not 100% sure, but I think they should be fine except for the 21mm. I’ve heard that protrudes out a lot. There’s always the option of using an EF adapter since they come with that mount as an option too.
Wow, I was not expecting to find someone trying to use this combo too! I’ve been looking everywhere for the PL flange distance to use the Speedbooster you’d mentioned. Please let me know if you’ve had any luck! Cheers
I just bought the 21 for my blackmagic 6k full frame because I tend to shoot in super 35 mode more then I do open gate and after doing the math. 21 MM in super 35 mode is around 35MM so it works for the focal length im looking for.
amazing kit, and amazing shots too, most of the shots were on 31mm? In which scenarios do you use the other 3? I really like how do you mix with different cameras, I really like the Ember shots too.
Thanks so much! Most of the shots were on the 31mm, yes. I use the 85mm for all the tighter and detail shots. The 21mm hasn’t shipped yet, but when it does, I’ll trade the 31mm for the 43mm to have a nicely balanced 3 lens set 🤘🏼
You mentioned that you used the lenses on you medium format camera. Which one? I understand the image circle of these lenses is 45 mm and for medium format you need al least a lens with 55 mm coverage.
Hey buddy! Question here from a C70 shooter wanting to get a set of these, do you use these with a regular RF-EF adapter or with the 0.71X RF to EF speed booster adapter? and is it possible to use with the speed booster? Thanks a lot!
Hey hey! I’ve used both adapters. The talking head was actually shot with the canon speed booster. The only issue would be that the new 21mm sticks out a bit in the back and probably can’t be paired with the speed booster. Should be fine with the regular adapter though.
You also mentioned that there is no CA, but watching your video, your A-Footage of you, then you can clearly see it on the light tubes My debate: Dulens APO // DZO Vespid // DZO Arles
You make a good point. Not sure why that is. Can't remember if I shot this with a speedbooster or an ND filter or if it just has CA with the lens alone. In all my other shots and in different projects, I haven't seen the CA like I do in those PavoTubes.
Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any questions!!🤙🏼

@@JLEOY I’ve used both the 31mm and the 85mm on the Fuji gfx 100 and they worked great. Very slight vignetting on the 31mm.
I have the set as well and also waiting on the 21mm. I use them on the BM6KFF for narrative work. Absolutely love them!
Nice!! The more I use these lenses, the more I love them!
Did you get pl mount ?
@rahulfilms1840 yes
@@diazfilms I got EF mount. Any idea what’s the nets adapter for L-EF mount?
Thanks!

The 58mm FL were also previously popular FLs used on Carl Zeiss lenses, Helios 44-2 (which was based on the former) etc..

Saw these today at Hot Rod cameras in Burbank and quickly fell in love with them.
And I bought a set and they rock!

I'm just missing the 21mm. I Love these lenses on my BMCC 6k Full Frame
what adapter do you use them with ?

I have the set. Love this video, glad you’re enjoying them man. I love mine, so very good.
Nice!! And thanks! They’re probably some of my favorite lenses ever!
The image is not that sharp, right?
I’d definitely use these lenses! Might be a good kit to get me into the world of cinema lenses.
heck yeah! Couldn't recommend them enough!
Hi! What camera did you use for the shot of the swimmer at 5:03?
That was the Freefly Ember 5k 🤙🏼

This Lens 85mm and 31mm I can use on bmpcc 6k g2?
For sure. You’ll either have to get a PL adapter or get the lenses with the optional EF mount though.
Next up 110mm!

Good review. I'd say the biggest con is how easily they get vailing glare, but it's not a dealbreaker for me.
I wanna buy it for my fx30, but my concern is... are 2.4 fast enought for a s35 sensor?
I used these on my Canon c70, which is also s35, all the time and didn’t have many situations where I needed anything faster
@@WakeUpMatt thanks you so much! I buy the 21 and now i'm searching for a good not overpriced adaptor
