What I love about kimura is that he is just a normal guy unlike ippo and takamura who have god like strength, itagaki who is basically speed given human form, and aoki who at the very least is hella unpredictable he’s just relatively average so his struggle to try and push himself harder and grow greater feels so much more real compared to the rest and watching him nearly defeat someone who is literally personified as death himself is just amazing. Easily one of my favorite characters in the entire series hands down.
Yeah, kimura embodies the hard work aspect of boxing, he has no natural talent and his style is basic, but he worked his ass off and managed to almost beat Mashiba, who has loads of natural talent. Unfortunately, Kimura doesn't win because as the saying goes, "hard work beats talent until talent works hard".
This fight has me shedding a few tears when I saw the ending. I knew in my heart he wouldn’t win but I still wanted him to beat Mashiba so damn bad. Best fight in the series for me decided by 3 CM
Him and Aoki are about the same when it comes to physicality but you're forgetting that Kimura fights in a weight class below Aoki's weight class so that they don't fight each other they're the same size but Kimura cuts WAY more weight than Aoki we saw how hard it was for Takamura to cut weight for Hawk but we never saw Kimura bitch about weight cutting, like Aoki said, he bitches about weight cutting sometimes but Kimura never did
Unlike other characters born with insane talent, like ippos “dynamite punches” or takamuras unshakeable will, Kimura is just an average guy. He doesn’t have any crazy talents, only hard work. That’s what (in my opinion) makes him the greatest character, cause he shows that even the most average guy ever could achieve greatness, he might not have gotten the title belt but it’s still impressive he got to the point, just comes to show that anyone, even the most average of us with zero talent can achieve greatness as long as we put in the hard work…
