After naming his all-time XIs for Manchester United and Liverpool, John Giles turned his attention toward Tottenham Hotspur | @TottenhamHotspur @PaddyPower
How wonderful it is to hear this from one of the true greats of British football. Johnny Giles was a wonderful player! Personally, the Tottenham player I really liked was Chris Waddle. He came to Olympique Marseille and developed into a world beater quite late in his career, he was at his best at the age 30 - 32, 33. In Marseille he's a cult hero, he became very popular and a successor of the greatest dribbler of the ball I've ever seen, a swede, Roger Magnusson. Roger Magnusson, called the "Swedish Garrincha" and "the king of dribble" in France played for Olympique Marseille and was at his peak in the late 60's, early 70's and a sensational dribbler of the ball, together with George Best and Jimmy Johnstone the greatest of that era.
@@@colinturner4158: Yes, George Best was fantastic and is one of my favorites, not just as a dribbler of the ball but also great goalscoring ability. I never saw him live, obviously but got the chance to se a couple of games shown on Swedish television when I was a kid. But for sheer dribbling ability, Roger Magnusson is at the top for me. It's a shame his club, Olympique Marseille, didn't let him play the World Cup 1970 for Sweden, then he would be more well known. Like they say in France where he spent his most successful years; "had he played for a more prestigious national team he would be as well known as Stanley Matthews and Garrincha".
hoddle was a virtuoso i think johnny does him a diservice here, that said he still picks him! the rest of his team is spot on , and his assesment of gascoine is right on the mark.
I think Johnny Giles was a bit harsh in his judgment of Glenn Hoddle, who I think was one of the "world's" best players, let alone Spurs' greatest player.
This is a great series, he doesn't hold back which is what we need from expert summarisers. I have the same opinions Johnny Giles has about Gascoigne and Hoddle, I have been told I am talking rubbish!
@@finley5145 Hmmm, Finley. Depends really on how well you remember it. They were for two seasons the best in England without doubt - second probably only to the great Real Madrid. I might just give you 63. But nevertheless, it was a team on the wane. Maybe because I was young, I just expected it to last for a long time. 67 FA Cup and other high place does not a great team make. 61 and 63 they were. As a say undoubtedly the best in England, second only to Real Madrid in Europe. So, it's not were they a good team after but were they a great team? No.
His comments about Hoddle are fascinating. When I was growing up I read he would have played in any other international team, he was comparable to Platini
Fair play to Giles, you can only take 11 and someone’s always going to be left out that’s controversial. Klinsmann won a WC but didn’t make the list either. One man’s opinion, that’s what they pay him for...
Glen Hoddle.. Spurs didnt have a great side, 2 FA cups, 1 UEAFA cup, League cup finalists, FA cup Finalists , constant top six finishes hmm I would take that now haha.
"Wing-Halves". Classic stuff. Football is just another example of history repeating itself. Wing-Halves were basically the two players that played either side of the "Centre Half" in "Midfield"!
baz Lynch John white cliff jones Martin chivers Cyril knowles Mike England Phil Beal who greaves said in trading he wouldn’t get a kick of the ball with Beal marking him Alan mullery Alan gilzean unbelievable first touch
Your Great man Mr Giles . You are God’s servant - Justice Amen . Revelation 15:1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God. Revelation 15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. Revelation 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. Just to show how Great the man is I made a comment that John still had a beef with Derby because he didn’t mention Dave McKay . I jump the gun too early God bless You Sir .
Klinsmann won the world cup, is currently the sixth-highest goalscorer at World Cups overall, In 1995, he came in third in the FIFA World Player of the Year award; in 2004 he was named in the FIFA 100 list of the "125 Greatest Living Footballers, and had a serious impact at Spurs saving us from relegation in 98, I've only scenes clips of Jones and know the impact that he too had in the double winning team and was more important to Spurs over his career than Kilinsmann, but on a world stage, I would still go with Kilinsmann..
@Robert Doyle it's about the player and how good he was, If it's solely about Tottenham and not about the best players that played for Tottenham, then just put in the double winning team!!!
Not sure I'd have him in an all time Madrid team but I see the logic in what they're saying. Modric joined Madrid at his peak, he was 27 or thereabouts, has won multiple trophies with them, played almost 100 more games than he did at Spurs. He was fairly young at Spurs, won nothing there. If you were to say where Modric spent his best years of his career it was at Real Madrid not Tottenham Hotspur, so if he was going to fit into any club's all time XI it's Madrid's (and again I'm not saying I would include him over a number of other Madrid greats).
@Robert Doyle I still think he'd be in with a shout though. He was the most crucial midfielder in a 4 time CL winning team. Not to mention leading Croatia to the WC final and winning Ballon d'or.
That was a great show. Giles knowledge is brilliant.
Great to hear John Giles views on other teams. Really enjoy hearing all this during this difficult time. Absolute legend.
Hoddle was a class act.
The Legend that is Johnny Giles, i doff my cap to thee sir

Niklas Daver George best was the best I’ve seen play

Waddle was inconsistent for Tottenham
hoddle was a virtuoso i think johnny does him a diservice here, that said he still picks him! the rest of his team is spot on , and his assesment of gascoine is right on the mark.
Jennings was the first keeper that used his feet to make saves and that one handed catch from corners and crosses the best keeper I’ve ever seen
Giles was the best passer of a ball I've seen great mid fielder and a tough little bugger
I thought Waddle would be great alongside or around the front two providing crosses as well as linking the mid field.
I think Johnny Giles was a bit harsh in his judgment of Glenn Hoddle, who I think was one of the "world's" best players, let alone Spurs' greatest player.
Good show. Johnny sure knows his stuff.
This is a great series, he doesn't hold back which is what we need from expert summarisers. I have the same opinions Johnny Giles has about Gascoigne and Hoddle, I have been told I am talking rubbish!
@Richard Baker you are
@@alancampbell3364 so Johnny Hiles is aswell?
Would like to hear more 11s on other clubs like Aston Villa, West Brom, Newcastle, Wolves, etc
Can Johnny do an all time eleven for Derby County and Nottingham Forest, I know he wasn't a big fan of Mr. Clough but it would be interesting
I remember that great side of the early 60s. The only surprise is that it lasted only 2 years.
Hmmm. 1961 league and Cup... 1962 fa cup.... 1963 cup winners cup..... 1967 fa cup aswell as lots of other high place finishes

@@finley5145 Yes, I agree, Finley. It was merely my thoughts at the time.
Bit of a cheek showing a picture of Pat Jennings in an Arsenal shirt when talking about a Spurs all time XI
Dave Mackay, was wondering if he would put him in at CB
He was only 5'6". Think Edgar Davids but better in attack
midfielder
Jennings,Perryman,MacKay,King,Knowles,Ardiles,Hoddle,Gascoigne,Jones,Klinnsman and the great Jimmy Greaves
The great thing about this list, it’s all opinion I genuinely believed he forgot about Luka Modrić though!?🤔

Glad ledley king was in the team. Spurs legend.
GK Jennings, RB Walker, CB Campbell, CB King, LB Davies, HM Blanchflower, CM Hoddle, CM Mackay, RF Greaves, CF Klinnsmann, LF Bale

Brian Sukhu the England managers then just did not know how to accomodate Glenn in the team.
@@mohdazmi10 Perhaps the team should have been built around Hoddle/Barnes.
Do you agree with John Giles comment?
Brian Sukhu to a certain extent yes.

Really ok that team got Relegated from league 2
I'd have Gareth Bale instead of Hughton, Richard Gough instead of Ledley and Klinsmann instead of Jones !!!
Fergal McKenna Jones was world class brave as they come player of the tournament in 58 World Cup

Chris was good but not better than cyril
U did Tottenham before Arsenal r u serious ??
Spurs the bigger club these days.
No Gasgoine or Klinnsman
No suprise picks celts, this is an anti England thing ,,,, even though the celts have won nothing...
