It was Iowa's first game starting Brendan Sullivan at QB, which added a dimension to the run game. It might've hurt that the badgers didnt have a lot of film on him
It hurt when the defensive coordinator refused to load the box, especially after half time. It also hurt letting Locke continue at QB after halftime. In addition it hurt that Longo is still running the offense. So yeah, it hurt.
Matt is right. They are not changing the quarterback. Starting a true freshman qb for the first time against Oregon is coaching malpractice and the next two are must win games (one for the bowl and the other for the state of the program).
@@tfive1681 agree. But why not sprinkle him in with packages like Michigan did with JJ McCarthy? Forget the red shirt argument - does not apply in the transfer portal age.
@@williamwojcieszek4320 Now to me, the approach you are suggesting makes a lot of sense. I would love to hear what Fickell and Longo would say about this.
@@tfive1681 just seems like zero creativity from Longo/Fickell. Have him come in for short yardage “push tush” situations, RPO keepers, roll-out pass to flat, etc. Come on guys! So frustrating.
This is the perfect time to get Mettauer in. Two weeks to prepare and no pressure for him to win. Then he'll have a chance to work on mistakes from OR and get ready for NE.
A great coach once called a game like this "A Dunkirk" a complete disaster! Wi is in it's second year of a rebuild, Fickle inherited a BRUTAL Schedule, and it doesn't get any better next year. The answers are at The QB position, until they get a Stud at QB & another one in the pipe line.
Sadly, I haven't been able to watch the game yet. However, from everything I'm hearing, maybe Fickell, Longo, and Tressel don't know as much as we think. It's likely they have zero imagination nor forethought. Considering they cannot tell when a defense is selling out to stop our run, they are clueless on how to sell out to stop the other team's runs.
Iowa simply out physically played you. Iowa looked like REAL GROWN @$$ men n you guys looked like little paper boys. Wisconsin doesn't put fear into opponents. Teams don't fear any running game, don't fear your passing attack n damn sure don't fear your defense. What happened to your three fifty pound linemen, where's your thumping linebackers, where's your ball hawking secondary, where's your 240 pound running backs, where's your game management QBs. Damn Wisconsin football has went from physically intimidating to powered puff University quickly.
Iowa is a solid program. It's not like they are unable to beat Wisconsin. Iowa was a much better team on this night.
keep your head up bernie

I haven't seen Iowa dominate Wisconsin like that since Hayden Fry coached at Iowa. Dust yourselves off, look forward and beat Nebraska and Minnesota.

The three main failures were: coaching, coaching and coaching.

Worst loss since 59 to nothing for sure
That loss sucked for sure but last year’s loss at home to Northwestern was brutal too.
@ unfortunately over the last three years, there are a lot of choices that kind of sums up where we are at

Nobody on the entire roster is next level material.
